I know, certain cynics who haunt the precincts of this hallowed blog can’t bring themselves to believe there could be good Republicans who support Barack Obama for President. Well, I just keep meeting them. An old Republican friend of mine wrote from Indiana today, “…PS: I’m putting up my sign and wearing my shirt today… (see attached)” And sent these two wonderful images (above, and below)
I was there that day too -- as his Orange County Coordinator. I was mostly concerned about the possibility of…
I was talking to a long time friend this week and he was telling me that his parents are disgusted with the Republicans and Bush. Those two voted for Bush, TWICE and are just sick about being lied to and jerked around. They are going to sit this election cycle out. They don’t trust the GOP at all. They are also considering voting for Obama. We won’t know how this all plays out until the votes are counted. All indications are that the race will be extremely close.
Red, I agree that it will be close. The Republicans just crank up the old election machine and it spits out victories, I’ve always envied them for that.
I think this time that we have the right guys running and people are tired of the old GOP tricks and spins that caused us to get into this hole in the first place. We’ll see.
God bless the Religious Right, they count my family among them so I can’t say I don’t love them but I can say they don’t love one another.
All their platitudes go out the window if they think you have strayed from their straight and narrow (weekly church and tithing) and if you have stayed the straight and narrow (weekly church and tithing) then it doesent matter if you’ve cheated on your spouse, divorced, cheated, lied, or stolen its OK you’re a sinner but you’re saved. Just dont become another religion because they can’t stand Presbyterians, Catholics, Protestants, Lutherens, Methodists, Buddists, or heaven forbid Muslims.
So excuse me if I don’t line up to drink the cool-aide but my Catholic upbringing taught me to respect other religions not condemn them, it taught me to love my fellow man even when I thought they were wrong, and to treat people with respect and dignity regardless of their weekly church and tithing habits. It also taught me to avoid name calling but I dont do as well on that as I’d like to.
It seems to me that the Republicans have more than the usual amount of hypocracy going for them this year, is that just me or do others see it too?
This is the Captain speaking.
To those Republicans who have jumped the S.S. McCain Palin Victory ship – the ship is underway. There will be no life preservers provided and the ship will not turn around. Our final port of call will be the White House.
I don’t know if the dems will be around to pick you up – you see they can’t tolerate traitors, ask Joe Lieberman.
Ahoy there maties! Don’t listen to Cap’n Jack, he thinks his ship will be able to go UP the Potomac, jump onto the shore, and somehow waddle a half mile and up those White House steps. Not gonna happen, as much as Admirals McSame and Caribou Barbie may curse and swear.
The rest of us are going on foot, a hundred million strong. I MAY NOT GET THERE WITH YOU… well actually I imagine I will.
“Admirals McSame and Caribou Barbie”
Dasmmit, that’s funny.
*Cap….will soon look down and realize his bilges are leaking…..he will get out his bucket and immediately start to bail.
Of course a good Cap…goes down with their ship.
All the kings horses and all the kings men…couldn’t put lipstick on that pitbull.

Well said, Winship. And you should know which Ship will Win.
My Indiana friend in question, James “Figgy” Hardwick, jazzed about this post (he didn’t know I had a blog) writes further, from traditionally dark-red country:
Vern Check this out … Read all until you see me….
after it happened.. a volunteer came up to me and said that they love my “Up-Beat” personality and asked if I wanted to work the event … I called my wife, and I am getting ready to hit the door to work the event, and hope to meet Obama!!!… Watch the Terre Haute event on the news channels..
Peace!

Valley ticket-seekers started lining up at 4 a.m. for Obama campaign stop
By Deb Kelly
The Tribune-Star
TERRE HAUTE — General anxiety rippled through the crowd of hundreds waiting in line Friday for tickets to see Barack Obama speak today — how many tickets would there be?
That question was answered shortly after 10 a.m. Around 200 people had received tickets, and organizers outside the Campaign for Change office at 509 Wabash Avenue announced that no more were available.
The line, which began forming around 4 a.m., stretched along the south side of Wabash Avenue from Fifth Street to Sixth Street, filled the sidewalk along Sixth Street and nearly reached Ohio Street.
The chatter in the line ranged from rumors about how many tickets there might be — some suggested up to 1,000 — to the cool weather, to the speeches given recently during the Republican National Convention. An Obama volunteer wandered through the crowd with a plastic canister of coffee and Styrofoam cups, while another sought volunteers to make phone calls and canvass door to door for the campaign.
People in line shivered in the fall-like temperatures. Some had lawn chairs, blankets, and books to read while waiting.
Estell and Joan McClure of Terre Haute were a couple of the lucky ones to receive tickets. The McClures said that although they are Republicans, “We are impressed with [Barack Obama].”
Estell McClure said he would vote for Obama because, “I just don’t like what’s been going on – it’s time for a change.”
It will be their first time to see the candidate in person, and the two hope to meet him, they said.
One former Republican, when he realized the line was too long for him to get tickets, instead made the morning a chance to campaign for his candidate.
James “Figgy” Hardwick of Greencastle traveled to Terre Haute early Friday for a chance at tickets. His efforts did not pay off, but Hardwick made the best of it, standing near the street with a large banner that said, “Join me! Another Republican jumping ship. Change I can believe in. Obama ’08.”
Hardwick said, “[Obama’s] message of hope really spoke to me … I think it’s time to try something new.”
Although Hardwick did not manage to get tickets, his sign received a good deal of approval from many in the crowd waiting for tickets.
Today’s event takes place at the 4-H Arena at the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds, where Obama will address the crowd about his plans to help the nation’s economy. The doors open at 11 a.m. and the speech is expected to begin at 12:30 p.m.
Dollars to donuts – I say the the McPal-ocrats will out number the Obamacans.
You’re on junior. But I want dollars, you can keep the doughnuts.
Junior,
No donuts here, either. But drinks at Memphis, that’d be okay. Or just $50 bucks would be a good bet.
You are both on – it is a bet.
But we will keep the stakes at drinks – my taxes are too high (thanks dems) to be able to afford $50 to each of you.
Thomas, do you want part of this bet? Like taking candy from a baby.
It’s a bet!
No Welchers now… 😉
