Uh-oh. As the Republican Party readies for its National Convention, the news has broken that his vice presidential nominee, Sarah Palin, has a family values issue. “The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said on Monday,” according to the Washington Post.
“Bristol Palin, one of Alaska Gov. Palin’s five children with her husband, Todd, is about five months pregnant and is going to keep the child and marry the father, the Palins said in a statement.”
Oh boy – no bueno! And the shocker in this tale is that “Senior McCain campaign officials said McCain knew of the daughter’s pregnancy when he selected Palin last week as his vice presidential running mate, deciding that it did not disqualify the 44-year-old governor in any way.”
Oh really? We’ll see. We certainly can’t question the Palin family’s committment to life. However getting preggers out of wedlock at the age of 17 doesn’t fit into the GOP’s “family values” platform.
And here we thought the GOP’s biggest problem this week was going to be Hurricane Gustav…

Straight up: there is no drivel–go play on condado de cara roja….con jubalito la mentirosa….
Please submit a picture of him in his Urell cassock..We want to see if it has the Lewinsky stains on it

Wow….you use the word cabrone……I bet you sit next to Jabalito as he tries to learn spanish by osmosis
interesting…..I bet Jubalito is teaching you spanglish………….
duplojohn is really on to something…one of my thoughts when Palin was picked was “this is meant to bring the abortion issue back to the fore”.
When you can’t debate on the issues that matter the most to the vast majority of Americans, you drag out the moral issues. Truly pathetic.
Democrats would do well to disengage on the issue of Palin’s daughter and her pro-life stance.
Lol pendejo I learned all my spanish from my younger days working in restaurants. You give Jubal too much credit.
SCR but I will say thanks for not fluffing it up…I like that much better.
ART!!! Why bother parenting?? Just have SAUSD do it, like you recommend for everyone else.
This is a TOTAL non-issue. A 17 yr. old girl got pregnant, there isn’t a damn thing her mom could have done to prevent that – all the ductaion and admonitions in the world fall by the wayside when hormones are involved.
Human nature – don’t make it about politics.
It is about time that us Americans had someone in the executive office who can and does have sex with their spouse. I think JFK was the last President to personally have a child while in the White House.
Palin can and may make history a couple more times, as the first Vice President to have a child while in office and then again as the first President to have a child while in office.
I think I hear another Camelot arising in the not too distant future.
Floweszzz
You are quite welcome….I did have to tone it down especially for you given your limited intellect and association con los fanaticos on red-faced county….
I might suggest that you look into adult ed classes at SAUSD….they might help you understand the big policy wonk words that many of us use here on the OJ. I realize that this is a step up for you since red county is only a series of newspaper articles and that comprehension is a difficult task….
But keep buying those tobacco products and paying your user fees to OC
Dude. 17.
I know, I know… “Dude. Eight year olds” (The Big Lebowski…)
I think its hilarious that Palin is using her daughter’s mistake for her own political gain. Now her 17 year old daughter is getting married. Does anyone else think that this marriage is forced? You say shotgun, I say wedding.
If McCain and Palin win this election, its going to be a comedic 4 years. I bet her daughter will resort to drugs and alcohol and eventually get a divorce.
Nevertheless, evangelicals are having a field day with this. CNN reported that many religious figures are praising “Palin’s commitment to family values” by having her daughter give birth to the baby and marrying the father. Does anyone else smell the fresh BS?
Granpa McCain and GRANDMA Palin 2008.
SCR, please give cites for your claim about condoms. I don’t have time to chase all the stuff down. If you have the information and can show a source to verify your claims we can discuss issues much more rationally.
Flowers, I understand your feelings about Art, and I didn’t missunderstand what you said at all. As well as most of the other points you made in this thread.
As a friend Art, and as my daughter keeps pointing out, “Apple-Tree”. I am sure if your kids are at all like you, you will be proud and happy with them, but they will challenge you, in one way or another. Mine does all the time. Which I’m sure is no surprise to anyone. That’s what kids do, that’s their job as teenagers.
All of us hope to raise our children to always get it right but, life is what happens on the way to what you had planned, deal with it. It’s how you deal with what life hands out that seperates those who have it and those who don’t.
From what I am hearing here in Alaska, she is a pretty incredible person. They know her far better than the national media. This is the talk of Alaska right now, and they know about her very human side, they still love her.
Carl,
I am beginning to wonder if McCain picked Palin BECAUSE her daughter was pregnant, in part, as this now cements his ticket with social conservatives. He could not reach them before – and now even Dr. Dobson is nuts for the McCain/Palin ticket.
Am I being cynical? Perhaps. But at this level one ought to be cynical.
I’m still voting for the Libertarian ticket.
LOL SCR you are too funny…hit a nerve eh? You must have been told you are boring before.
I know much more about political law then you could muster in your lil pinky. But you can keep thinking I am not smart, doesn’t bother me in the slightest. 😛
Flowerszzz:
interesting contrast……
You assert a self-professed “depth of political law”. In the legal profession, there is no such specialty. You must be a graduate of Western State College of Law…..Try again after you climb out of your red ant hill, viejita (little old lady). You will have to do better than that.
Have another cigarette, and pay that consumption fee to First Five of Orange County.
When I read your posts, viejita Flowerszzz, I have to remind myself that I have to write down to you because of your intellectual comprehension disability.
That may explain, given your “in-depth knowledge of “political law”, why you are working in Orange County (restaurants did you say) and I am here in Sacramento. You must be Rosie Avila, a “wonderful” candidate but certainly “challenged in a variety of ways.

I can do one better on the birth control/condoms issue.
here is the draft HHS document that details the proposed changes in regulations. I know that it is long. There are numerous commentaries on this document and the proposed new regulations on various advocacy group websites.
Rather than point you to them, the better method is to direct you to the specific document that details the proposed regulations and redefines the concept of abortion to include various mechanisms.
here is the link:

In short, the proposed regulations, if implemented at the Federal level, will make null and void California law guaranteeing a woman’s right to choose that was signed into law by Ronald Reagan during his tenure as Governor.

#43 –
I agree with you and I commend Sen. Obama’s comment about keeping family members outta the political fray. He summarized his comments by reminding us that his mother was a teen-age mom.
Bristol’s pregnancy is not the end of the world. Bristol can dream like Sen. Obama’s 18-year mother did, and maybe one day Bristol’s son or daughter will aspire to be president of the United States.
Did McCain exercise the best judgement in selecting Sarah Palin as his running mate? How will she be introduced to the American public? These are some of the questions that should be debated on this blog.
I wish Bristol, her child, future husband and family all the best. And so should you.
Art,
Yes, you are being cynical.
Here’s the deal – – – Palin is the latest G.O.P. distraction. She’s meant to shift attention away from the real issue of this campaign — the awful state of the nation after eight years of Republican rule. The Republicans are brilliant at distractions. Willie Horton was a distraction. The chatter about gays, guns and God has been a long-running distraction. And we all remember the Swift-boat campaign.
LOl estupido….I said when I used to work in restaraunts. Perhaps you can not understand plan talk we need to wonk it up for you….you are forgiven.
I work for myself, and have a very successful business. I have also worked for a former State Assemblyman, and the Board of Supervisors. Decided that I did not want to be a government employee anymore, and now I work for myself….something you can only dream of I am sure.
Oh an by the way, you dont HAVE to go to college to learn sweetums….you just have to commonsense, be smart and have an interest in learning it. I find it rather disconcerting that you would proport to judge people based on their college education. Very sad…but keep throwing those spanish words in there!
We all have our areas of expertise….politcal law is mine. Sorry if you cannot relate – but then blog trolls rarely can relate…afterall that is all you are is a troll here.
Hey are you positing on MY TAX DOLLARS today from Sac today.
Flowerszzz –
I can totally relate to your experience. I had run a successful business for over 5 years and have been working in politics for almost 18. I’m going back to school to get a degree in a field for which I’ve already been working most of my life. I actually find the whole thing really inconvenient.
You don’t need college to learn, but if you learn you still have to go to college. Nonsense. When will we finally have vocational testing and certifications available in fields that are traditionally dominated by college degree holders? That will level the playing field and allow more people to utilize their talents for the betterment of all society.
College is expensive. Knowledge is free.

Flowerszzz:
Viejita, pobrecita, so now we find out that you were a go-fer at the local level for both a state assemblyman and the OC BoS. Gave up on public service, eh?
As far as working for myself, been there done that and continue to do that with my public service.
So lets see:
John McCain-Graduate-US Naval Academy
Barack Obama-Graduate-Columbia University; Harvard University Law School
Joe Biden-Graduate-University of Delaware; Syracuse University Law School
Sarah Palin-University of Idaho
I place a high emphasis on education especially amongst my fellow Latinos.
And then there is mi viejita Flowerszzz-knowledgeable about “political law”
hmmmm………I would love to be a client….if for no other reason so I can see your license to practice law in California…..I think that the California State Bar would be interested as well especially in your field of “political law”…..
You will have to do better than that, viejita. Go back to the red ant hill, Flowerszzz, or is it “Flores”?
And by the way, smoke those cigarettes and encourage your boys to smoke. Keep up the consumption fee to First Five of Orange County.

Flowerszzz;
You should know that your responsibility for your payment of income taxes ends when you file your tax return to the FTB.
Upon your filing, the taxes you paid cease to be your responsibility since you paid them. You have no ownership over “your taxes”.
Spend some time at the WSCofLaw library and read the codes pertaining to the Franchise Tax Board and “your taxes”.
You might learn something new. As the old adage goes, “be booksmart and not commonsense stupid”. Knowledge is a powerful tool.

PS never said I was an attorney….you assume that all you want.
Sorry Viejita, nice try.
Everything I say regarding your self-professed expertise in the field of “political law” indicates you are not an attorney….I certainly didnt presume that you were. In fact, just the opposite was clear to me.
I never presume anything about anyone. There is an old adage about the definition of “assume” as you have used it–you make an A** out of yourself and me”.
But keep trying viejita Flowerszzz (or is it Flores), one of these days I am sure that you will get it right.
Ha ha, you think what you want, and apparently you want to win. Trolls are like that – there is really no point to a trolls ramblings and drivel other then to try to piss people off and bully those that dont agree with them. You were unsuccessful with me…but you are welcome to keep trying.

No comment about your comment.
“Trolls are like that – there is really no point to a trolls ramblings and drivel other then to try to piss people off and bully those that dont agree with them.”
Spoken like the true neoCoNazi fundamentalist ideologue that you are…Not a surprising response from you. But you make one mistake. You presume that your fundamentalist position is of importance to me. So that there is no misinterpretation by you: a fundamentalist like you is of no interest to me or to most Californians. All one has to do is look at the current trending data on Prop 8 to see how most Californians view fundamentalist Californians. I know that it is a stretch for you–but you do have to read between the lines and extrapolate the polling data.
“You were unsuccessful with me…but you are welcome to keep trying.”
Again, as I have said to you in the past…you have a sense of self-stated worth that far exceeds the reality of my perceptions of you. To be blunt: there was never, and is not, an attempt to have some degree of success regarding you, whatever issue that your self-defined success is in play.
So make sure that you get your red-ant hill hall pass so that you can continue to spew your corrosive invective. You are following Jubalito La Mentirosa’s directive to you with such precision that he must be proud of you while he is learning spanish in the sanctuary cities of Minneapolis/St.Paul
Keep smoking those cigs.
