What a difference. The City of Santa Ana banned massage parlors but over in nearby Orange the city leaders took a different tack – they decided to make it tougher to open a spa or massage parlor, and to investigate such businesses regularly. So Orange still gets the benefit of having legitimate businesses while Santa Ana residents opt to go to their neighboring city when they need a massage or some other therapeutic spa service.
“After completing the desired course at any licensed massage therapy school, therapists must still pass a national standardized exam and individual tests on a city-by-city basis,” according to the O.C. Register.
Santa Ana could have done the same thing with hookah bars and tatoo shops. But instead of regulating these businesses they banned them.
When will Santa Ana city leaders figure out that saying no to business is a dumb idea?
hookah bars and tattoo parlors are one thing but massage parlors are another and no matter how much schooling the therapists have it’s a business that is hard to regulate. once they are open they are open. there was a place called the fantasy shower and tan that was on the corner of euclid and 2nd street that was open for years even though the sapd raided it for prostitution. it brought around a bad element and theres a already a bad element around here to begin with.
Well, there are places such as “Massage Envy” that is completely legit and not at all seedy. But I’m biased, it’s where I go.
heather, there is also “dance studios” that open late here in little saigon. i understand there is legit places.
Art, wat actually happened in Orange is a few years ago, then-Councilman Dan Slater got through an ordinance change lowering standards and making it easier to open a massage parlor. They immediately began popping up like mushrooms, concentrated along Tustin Ave north of Collins. Prior to that, i don’t think there were any in Orange.
The tighter regulation is in response to their functioning as brothels — you may recall the sting operation which swept up the owner of a few of them for prostitution and human trafficking.
Prior to these establishments flocking to our city in response to permissive regulation, we didn’t have to divert city resources to dealing with illegal brothels.
Yes, we residents of Orange love driving up one of our cities main thoroughfares and seeing neon “Massage” in the midst of clean, perfectly nice shopping centers.
If you would like Orange’s massage parlors to migrate to Santa Ana, you are more than welcome to them. Maybe you can get one of your favored candidates to run on a platform of gay marriage and more massage parlors in Santa Ana.
Matt/Jubal,
Well, if you hate the massage parlors so much you ought to move to Santa Ana, where they were banned by our City Clowncil. In fact once you are here you can help your boy Carlos Bustamante with his re-election campaign. You two will be birds of a feather…
I’m not the one who keeps harping on the dearth of massage parlors in Santa Ana, Art.
I’m just correcting your misperception of the situation in Orange. You want more massage parlors in Santa Ana, knock yourself out.
Matt/Jubal,
Again you missed the point. The City of Orange has shown us that regulations and inspections can result in massage parlors that are benefits, not detriments, to the people of Orange.
Santa Ana banned such establishments rather than trying to control them. That is not good governance.
I would think that a guy who values freedom would not be such a fascist, but perhaps these establishments rile up your Talibani wing of the OC GOP. You guys need to loosen up. Perhaps you might draw benefit from an occasional happy ending…
Prior to the loosening of restrictions on massage parlors, Orange didn’t have to expend city resources regulating, inspecting and monitoring the plethora of massage parlors that popped up here — apparently, to you great satisfaction.
Now, we have to because they brought with them prostitution and human trafficking.
If the regs hadn’t been loosened in the first place, we would have this problem that taxpayers money has to be spent dealing with, capiche?
Filing hasn’t closed yet, Art. There’s still time for you to run against Carlos on a platform of gay marriage and more massage parlors.
wow art thats really good. talibani? fascist? because he called you out on whorehouses? in my earlier post i mentioned the fantasy shower and tan and the “dance studios” that litter little saigon. even though i live in santa ana (the west most side of santa ana)it’s still in little saigon. there are many places here that if you go in and buy a overpriced drink you can sexually fondle the waitresses as long as you pay for the drinks. those are whorehouses too and i’m not too happy they still stay in business here in our community. maybe your friend “supervisor nguyen” can stop the human traficking and sex trade that already exists here? why the hell would you want more? or is it that you want “legal” massage parlors that we cant regulate instead of the illegal ones that already exist?
Jose,
You and Matt clearly did NOT read the Register article. The City of Orange is doing a find job of controlling these businesses. And getting all the required training and licenses is NOT easy. The men and women who do so are professionals, not whores.
If the massage parlors in Little Saigon are crawling with whores that says more about the local City Councils and city administrations than about the businesses themselves. Clearly no one is in charge over there.
Again, Orange IS successfully regulating these businesses. Now the other cities in the O.C. need to get their act in order as well.
i have news for you art, massage therapists are sometimes prostitutes just because they are licensed doesnt mean they arent.
I have intermittant muscle spasms in my back from time to time. Right below the shoulder blades, above the kidneys, in the center. My wife found a massage therapast at one of the places near Meats and Tustin. My wife had previously used her with good results so she set the deal up. Girlfriend fixed me up – choice. It is difficult to find somebody who really knows what they are doing.
Problem was……….she REALLY knew what she was doing, particularly if I’d asked for it. My wife went back about a month later, only to find out they’d let her go for doing ‘favors’ for certain customers. Whoops.
No, I’m not availible to screw around on my wife.
Yes, I’d like a recomendation if somebody has one so the next time I sneeze or go pick up the phone or grab a pencil or reach down to pet my dog or whatever I’m lucky enough to do when I trigger this I can go get fixed. My definition of a “happy ending” is being able to walk out less like the hunchback and be able to take a deep breath if I want to without nearly passing out from the pain.

Tell me about it! Well said… and funny too.

Some people in the City of Orange dislike the visibility of the “Massage” signs all up and down Tustin Avenue. Most people don’t know that the city code requires visible signage indicating there is massage on the premisis.
I’ve also heard complaints about the close proximity of the massage businesses, congregated on Tustin Avenue. But if you look at the City of Orange, there are few busy commercial streets that run from one end of town to the other. Tustin Ave is the logical place, based on exposure and traffic, to have a massage business.
I’m glad the City of Orange is pro-massage. Did you know that massage schools offer student massages? Check out Lincoln Institute of Body Therapy.

And sometimes teachers, nurses and attorneys are prostitutes, too. What is your point?
This website http://www.eroticmp.com lists all the erotic massage parlors in Orange County. Why don’t the police just use this as evidence ?
Thanks Mike, I’ll have to make a copy of that. The reason it isnt evidence is because its only proof of advertisement or reporting not of prostitution, you need to be there when it happens to have proof of prostitution. Of course if we required all massage rooms to be filmed on closed circut tv then we could watch our favorites on you tube where they would no doubt be leaked. Still the films are not as good evidence as being there.
I do get massages occasionally having been blessed with a back like old whats his name above and its a damn shame when you find a good one and they disappear. Make sure you get a private number so that if they switch parlors you can still see them or arrange for them to come to your home and give both you and your wife massages.
I myself am between good masseuses. I make do with therapists in spas in major hotels – Vegas is especially good for quality massages – and the less technical but nevertheless enthusiastic masseuses in Little Saigon. My experience is these are not prostitutes although I have to admit I havent asked, and the only happy ending ever offered was the opportunity to provide myself one which didnt really make for an especially erotic experience.
I’ve been thinking about going to see how Massage Envy is since it opened, and will go there the next time my muscles refuse to relax and start pulling my spine out of alignment. Perhaps Vern or Sarah would investigate the list Mike provided and give us all a report. 😉
P.s. SMS, the numbers on the comments don’t show up on my screen, they really make commenting easier than saying “old whats his name” because that does apply to most here.
Anonyms,
That’s exactly why I asked for you and others who a regulars to pick pen names that are unique. I know who you are (by your log in at the admin level, if from nothing more than IP address) but can’t use that uniqueness to address you. It would make all our lives easier if everyone would at least pick a name and try to stick to it 😉 if for nothing more than civility.
You know Carl, while I like knowing some of the commenters and bloggers I’m finding a whole new experience in anonynmity. I did attempt to choose a screenname that is androgynous so that gender would also be masked. I have noticed that I tend to react differently based on how much information about the poster that I possess. When I have no other frame of reference than the comments posted then I react or over-react based on only my reading or mis-reading of the post. I can make no assumptions based on past association, gender preconceptions, or sometimes even political preconceptions and that seems to me to be in itself a benefit, at the very least its a novel experience. One I’m still processing. I think we all are still processing this new blogesphere. What a grand experiment! Lets go back to numbers as a co-identifier and allow those who wish to use the common anon or the less common anonymous (as well as the talented and charming Anonyms) to continue in this experience.
RV,
I disagree with both the use of both ghosting by “staff” and deletions. (Accountability is important to me as is fairness.)
Both of which I view as ethics violations. Redacting for language use is fair, and simply taking someone out isn’t, in my mind. I even stuck up for Sean when they booted him. To be sure, there are those who’s “name shall not be spoken” (Harry Potter) who I have to agree are so overboard that I understand why they are not allowed to post, but that is exceptional to the rules.
This is exactly why I was trans-orbital yesterday. Even if the discussion turned out OK, the ends does not justify the means, in my opinion.
I know I have very old fashion ideas in some regards, but I really do try to fair to everyone, even if we disagree.
I also do not own the site or make the rules, I can only disagree and try not to become what I see as wrong in the process. Yesterday I walked that line much closer than I would have liked and don’t feel good about it, but I attempted not to cross over it in the process and why I said it was SO tough.
I hope that my position on this is pretty clear. We can continue this in email if you like anytime, it is kind of inside stuff and I don’t know if anyone else really cares how deeply I feel about the subject.
RV.
Over a year ago I suggested that anonymous is OK if they add a uniqe letter or number along iwth anonymous so that we can differentiate between two or more anonymous posters on the same story.
In fact, while I have never signed on with any name other than my own, I have no idea who you are be it by name or in person. Yet it’s OK for you to take me to task on my posts as you recently did supporitng Frank Ury. I have no problem if you must protect yourself due to a concern about your job if that be the case. However, think about the level playing field as a fellow Orange Juice blogger when you don’t ID yourself and I do in my comments on your stories. Just a thought. Larry Gilbert
Larry,
I’ll be careful on your threads.
Carl,
Just stating what I’d do on MY threads. And, really, I don’t care about how many dopples people choose to use or not use. If they are not attacking other posters – that includes me- in a way that creats a hostile environment, then who cares?
This is ONLY a message board. If you want people to feel good about being here, quit pointing out that you “know” who is posting what b/c of IP’s etc… No one likes snoops and tattletales. Maybe we need a post on netiquette?
One of our own blog team has at least a half dozen monikers that have been used to go nuts on other posters or to try and prop up their losing end of a debate.
Ooh. I hope nobody thinks RV is talking about me, that’s not me. ALL I have is Phobius, who I think everyone knows is my homophobic alterego. I got nothing to hide.
LE knows of all the sites all they do is search internet. One of the best and original massage parlor review site are http://www.mpreviews.com lists all the erotic massage parlors in every area and Escorts.
can someone please tell me where i can go get a massage, and get laid as well? im really needing something like that. thank god there are places that cater to the sexless horndog. i mean…whats the alternative?..hiding out in some bushes at mile square park waiting for a half way descent looking jogger to trot by? just let the whorehouses stay in busines. they wont attract riff-raff to any one city if all the cities lift the ban. all of these losers exist everywhere, whorehouses dont create them. lets all be adults here, and realize that we live in a free country. just because some people dont like something doesnt mean that everyone must go without.
The best ‘two places I know of online are the escort review site http://www.tnareview.com and escort directory http://www.eros-guide.com
Both great sites that list by area, I have used both in the past
I can answer the question above…
“when will santa ana leaders figure out that saying no to business is a dumb idea?
WHEN THE CITY STOP USING DUMB MEXICANS TO WORK FOR THE CITY OFFICES.
THEY ARE GOOD FOR STREET WORKS AND TOYLETS CLEANING.
I deleted a vile comment just submitted in response to this one, but I agree with the vile commenter that this comment is also vile.
