Let me just say AMEN!
George says it better than I, with more humor than I can muster, in a way that makes everyone laugh.
Gary and I saw Carlin live in October 2001. He was brilliant and the best part was Carlin making fun of guys names, like “Todd”. We happen to be sitting next to a drunk guy named Todd who got so offended he threw a little fit.
It was classic Carlin. And as I said on the LOC, I found him to be offensive most of the time and I loved him for it.
RIP you Bastard!
I guess ‘playtime with the Cardinal (really) is over!’ I can picture it now. Carlin and ‘Buddy Christ!’
Gee, I wonder what movie is in my all-time favorites list.
RIP you bastard, indeed. Heather, I think you just wrote our Screwdrivers! toast for tomorrow. 😛

hey SMS,
Remember when I told you that as soon as you started naming names of your “friends” on both sides of the aisle they would repel from you with great haste? Well as soon as you mentioned one of your handlers names Melahat, Im guessing she called you to remove the entire post? See what I mean by being half way in the doorway only enough to hurl epithets at those your handlers want you to? How does it feel to realize that youve been used?
What the hell are you talking about? The post is right here. Melahat is not my friend or my handler. I’ve never even met Melahat and again I think it’s clear by now that I have no ‘handlers.’
I got her involved because you’re an ex-officio member of the DPOC who should have known better than to go after someone’s sexual identity or orientation. It’s a betrayal of everything the DPOC stands for.

Oh Jesus, here too? Old George is just barely slipping into rigor mortis, Paul and Sarah are bickering at his wake, and Crowley is trying to use the wise old comedian as an expert opinion debunking global warming. Nice ironic title, Terry.
I strove to pick a video that everybody could enjoy – Republicans and Democrats both have “stuff” ya know. That meant not using the 90% of his material that rips the hypocritical and rapacious rightwingers who’ve been running our country most of the past two decades.
I wasn’t too sad when George died, because he had been so obviously depressed these last seven years, especially after the American people actually RE-ELECTED the Bush crime gang in 2004. A couple years later he checked himself into rehab for addiction to vicodin and wine, after having been clean and sober thru the 90’s.
But he sure loved to piss people off, something I think he has in common with both me and Crowley. When I saw him live a few years ago at some ACLU event in Long Beach, he looked out at the audience and said “I think I see a bunch of liberals. So I’m not gonna stand here and bash Bush and the Republicans like I usually do, I’m going to attack political correctness.” (paraphrase) And of course he had us rolling in the aisles.
LOL Vern,
How more appropriate can it be for this spat to be at George Carlins wake.
Might I be so presumptuous to speak for other readers who would be most relieved if you could act out your spat in a less public forum? You both are minimizing this blog and the otherwise interesting information that is being exchanged. I have no idea, or care, for what is the genesis of your mutual hatred, but this does not seem the appropriate place for it. Why don’t you meet for coffee and work it out? If that’s not possible, please consider that most people do not wish to be privy to your caustic repartee. Please — take it outside…
Thank you Vern, I spent the whole evening watching Carlin clips. Hard to believe he’s gone.
Carlin was a voice for common sense that cut across party lines. The clip is great, though it does not actually address global warming per se, its more of a jab at the hand-wringing over endangered species and non-biodegradable materials.
OK Paul, take your attempts to please your new political masters, Van Tran and Mike Schroeder, elsewhere. We don’t want your crap here, and I am sure even they are regretting trying to buy off a loose cannon like you considering Janet won big.
This topic is about George Carlin, leave it that way you jerk.
The clip if anybody watched the whole thing was Carlin at his darkest, in the depths of his misanthropic nihilism. Of course the first few minutes pleased Crowley and evidently Overmyer and St. John, as he bashed an occasionally pretentious group of folks who seem like a nuisance to some on the right. Note how the audience’s laughter and applause turns to stunned silence though as Carlin builds up to a fantasy of the Earth taking revenge on humanity thru AIDS. Did he go off message there a little, Terry?
The obvious environmentalist response to Carlin’s provocation is: we are “saving the earth” as humanists; saving a livable environment for our own species, and yes, being intelligently selfish. I doubt even Crowley wants to follow Carlin all the way down the apocalyptic path he mordantly painted for us.
Or did perhaps Messrs. Crowley, Overmyer and St. John think Jonathan Swift really wanted us to eat Irish babies?
Hey Vern,
Can’t I just enjoy a great comedy act by I guy I have always liked without your trying to read in every freaking thing in the world, come on man get a grip.
We lost a great human being that made all of us question ourselves and what we hold dear.
Good for him! We are all better for it!
OK bro. True that. Just sayin’.
Meet you this evening? I hope.
almost-for-sure, may be late (single-payer thing in Fountain Valley at 7)
Plug it man, where the gig at?
Everybody get a grip! I second your emotion Longboobs. ~ Ms M
LOL, single-payer healthcare. Not single-player piano gig.
Oh….well….never mind
“END OF THE WORLD – NEWS AT 11” while, Vern & Sarah tell insider jokes…………..they think
are funny!
George Carlin….was negative…but truthful…
the show with Larry King, Seinfeld, Maher and Rosanne….commemorating him was excellent. Too bad if you missed it….Rest in Peace George! You brought great insight into our world and tried your best to debunk all those pesky myths! We didn’t always agree with all or even bunches of that you said….but we would defend to the death your right to say them! Sam Kennison and you can now chat incessantly! God Bless! OH,
you didn’t believe? Oh well, God will forgive you everyone else!
R&A –
You did it again. The ‘insider jokes’ to which you refer were from a very public (and very popular) movie called ‘Dogma’ by Kevin Smith featuring Linda Fiorentino, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Chris Rock, Salma Hayek, Jason Lee, Alan Rickman, and Alanis Morisette… and yes, George Carlin. Maybe you’ve heard of these people? Probably not.
Again, just because you don’t get it, doesn’t make that our problem. Enough people do. Have you been in a drunken stupor for the last twenty years?
