I heard tonight from a source in City Hall who said that Santa Ana Clowncil Member Michele Martinez apparently texted several of her peers on the City Clowncil today with an announcement that she is going to run against Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido this November.
This might have been a good idea a year ago, but after Measure D won, Martinez essentially sold out to Pulido. She quit her job at a predatory lender and Pulido got her a job on the Measure G campaign – so blame Martinez for helping to raise our property taxes as we are in the midst of the Bush Depression.
Martinez used to tell me that she hated opposing Pulido and the Clowncil because she didn’t like being shunned by them. That is one of the problems with Martinez. Being popular matters more to her than being right.
Michele voted no on the city budget this year, but not because it was too big, but rather because she felt it did not include enough expenditures for the youth. She also split with Pulido on Measure D. Aside from that, she has essentially voted with him close to 100%. I don’t know how she is going to differentiate herself from Pulido.
I know who I will be voting for in November – and it won’t be Martinez. I will be voting for my blog colleague, Thomas Gordon. He would be a far better Mayor than either Pulido or Martinez. Who knows? Maybe Pulido and Martinez will split the Latino vote…
I am told by the way that the Santa Ana Police Officer’s Association can’t wait to start launching negative mailers at Martinez. They don’t like it that she admitted to selling drugs when she was younger.
Martinez has also alienated most of her supporters, as few of them were happy when she became a Pulido hack. And she has angered other activists in the city. A businesswoman and resident in the Renaissance Plan area revealed last year that Martinez angered her when she kept saying that she was only interested in helping the youth. That’s obvious. Martinez screwed over all our retired folks and those with limited incomes when she worked on Measure G and when she voted to raise our water rates, not once but twice in the past year.
Pulido and his amigos will have an easy time destroying Martinez in November. Too bad. This could all have turned out quite differently. Instead my suggestion is Vote for Thomas Gordon for Mayor of Santa Ana!

Folks would not be making such jokes about Michele if there wasn’t some truth to them. A couple of weeks ago she was at the Memphis bar and a friend of mine videotaped her in action. It was embarrassing to watch the footage. She really needs to comport herself professionally when she is in public. The video showed her in full buffoon mode.
She asked my friend not to post the footage. Good thing she made that request. If I put up that footage her mayoral campaign would be DOA. Guaranteed.
It is great that Michele left the chola lifestyle, but the chola in her keeps popping up. Another friend of mine saw her flashing gang signs at the Memphis a few months ago. This sort of behavior is not helping her.
Don’t forget that Martinez also, stupidly, told a magazine, mere weeks after she was elected, that she had sold drugs as a teenager. Why in the world would she admit to that? Clueless. Absolutely clueless.
Whoever her campaign manager is, he or she will have a hell of a time controlling her public outbursts.

If I am not mistaken you used to commend Michelle for becomng the woman she is now after her youth involvment in gangs and drugs etc.
I find it quite disingenuous of you to criticize Michelle or anyone for that matter on their pasts. I remeber your brother had committed suicide many years ago. I am just guessing but I suspect that your brother may have had some involvment in drugs, criminal behavior etc. It is par for the course in poeple with mental disorders such as your own brother whom i believe you said had suffered from schitzophrenia.
Now remember, I lost my older brother as well to a drug overdose. And I have lost many friends over the years to drug over doses. I have known many gang members from my youth who had gone all the way to the grave and some who have tuned their lifes around and are now fine upstanding citizens.
My point is that you are criticizing Michele for her past when you used to praise her for turning out to be a fine young woman in the community.
This turn around is apparently becuase you think Michelle has become a crony of Miguel Pulido. Well now she is runni agains Pulido for Mayor and you still takes shots at her. I just dont get your logic.

You assume Art’s brother was a criminal drug dealer because it’s ‘par for the course’ for a person with a mental disorder?! I have a mental disorder (panic/anxiety). I never ran with a gang, I don’t deal drugs, and I don’t use any drugs except those that are prescribed to me. Hell, I don’t even park illegally, and while I may have had questionable friends in the past (most of us have), I had always acted as their conscience, not the other way around.
It would have been great if Michele had a similar level of self-control, but Art’s point is that even though she may have gotten away from her bad influences (she has all new influences now), she hasn’t lost her ghetto streak.
Your generalized statements are prejudicial at best and hateful and offensive at worst. Please, just go away. Go to work in L.A. with your beloved Commie Bitch or something (as Sean Mill said, that’s not really far away enough, but we’ll take it). Your credibility this election cycle has been destroyed. If you keep this up, it may end up being so permanently.
Oh, and did it ever cross your mind that Michele may be running against Pulido because he aspires to higher office? This is a guy who thought Paul Walters should have been the Sheriff even as he’s been allowing Santa Ana to decay. Michele has already admitted that she easily bows to peer pressure (incidentally indicating a continued gang mentality). Perhaps Pulido chose her as his heir apparent?

You know only one other person has brought up my family in the blogosphere – and that would be Stanley Fiala. So I guess You and Fiala are now on the same page. Thanks for confirming your complete lack of class.
As you know, I did support Martinez. But not only did she sidle up to the Pulido cabal after Measure D passed, she also not only supported a tax increase that was unwarranted and fraudulent, Measure G, she also WORKED FOR that campaign – in essence she got paid to screw the local taxpayers.
I was willing to overlook Martinez’ stupid votes – and there were plenty of them – as long as she was at least occasionally opposing Pulido. But looking at her record now she has voted with him 99% of the time, including voting TWICE in 9 months to raise our water rates even though we proved in this blog that the Santa Ana water department spends 33% of their budget on administration as opposed to similar sized water districts that spend 19% of their budget on administration.
In short, there are plenty of reasons to oppose Martinez now. As for her past, it is just like the Hoa Van Tran cholo scandal. Folks are willing to buy into reformed cholos. But when that behavior keeps popping up, you start to question the reform part of the equation. Martinez wants to be Mayor but she acts like an ass in public quite often. As much as I despise Pulido, I cannot see our citizens voting for a complete embarrassment.
And the drug issue relative to Martinez was one SHE brought up, stupidly. She never asked any of her backers if we thought that was a splendid idea. She just ran her mouth off to the media. This is not a good quality for a mayoral candidate to have. And believe me Pulido will be sending out plenty of mailers to remind voters of her incredible faux pas.
As for my brother please refrain from commenting on my family here or anywhere else. He is not germane to any of this. And you ought to know it. I thought you had reached bottom Paul but you keep finding new ways to stick your feet in your mouth. Like Martinez you just can’t shut up and now your political career is over.
