The Ouch Factor!

Oil closed today above $133 dollars a barrel. It seems like only a few days ago that oil was $114 dollars a barrel. The Dow Jones got a minor hit of a couple of hundred points….but the target was the transportation stocks…the airlines…..the trucking companies.

Things are so bad….(how bad are they?)…that the Airlines are charging for bringing and checking in a bag for your trip. $15 dollars for the first bag, then $25 dollars for the second. If you bring 5 bags….it will cost you a quick $500 bucks! No, we are not kidding! The storage space that doesn’t get taken up with passenger bags….gets loaded up with high revenue cargo! So the people are now competing with Best Buy, Sony, Circuit City and even the computer companies; Dell, HP and Gateway!

The news that Diesel Fuel is fast approaching $5 dollars a gallon is creating inflationary pressures on all shipping and transport companies. The cost of all goods including food are again on their way up. When Oil hit $120 bucks a barrel….the price of a gallon of gas broke $4.00! Another $20 bucks a barrel….and we should expect $5.00 not to be far away.

The cost of fuel is fast reaching the Ouch Factor! You know, when you reach for your wallet and find moths rather than green. That equals a big Ouch! Your SUV or SuperCab Pick-up takes up to 22 Gallons of $4 Gas…which equals: $88 bucks, so you can drive 220 miles! 40 cents a mile. Soon that cost will be $110 dollars for that same 220 miles or 50 cents a mile! So, when you drive 10 miles tomorrow…remember the you just spent $4 bucks – soon to be $5 bucks! Getting more than 10 miles a gallon is important. The new Prius supposedly gets up to 60 miles to the gallon. A really big difference if you want to save cash…in the future!
