Mayor Cook’s Statement Endorsing the "Responsible Plan"

Here’s the text of Mayor Cook’s statement endorsing the much-ballyhood-here Responsible Plan to End the War in Iraq. (And that’s MAYOR to you, Schroeder and Jubal!)

Debbie Cook Endorses a ‘Responsible Plan’ to End the War In Iraq

A little more than a week ago, a group of congressional candidates, together with military strategists, put together what they call a “responsible plan” to end the war in Iraq. The plan, the authors write, will:

  • End U.S. Military Action in Iraq
  • Use U.S diplomatic power
  • Address humanitarian concerns
  • Restore our Constitution
  • Restore our military
  • Restore independence to the media
  • Create a new, U.S.-centered energy policySigning onto the plan Debbie wrote, “A majority of Americans believe that we should leave Iraq and many believe we should pull our troops out immediately. “Any plan to bring our men and women in uniform back from Iraq safely has to be carefully considered. I have endorsed the Responsible Plan, because it takes steps to address all the issues that a withdrawal will entail: ending military action in Iraq, using diplomatic power, restoring the military, and creating a new energy policy. “My specific contribution to implementing the Responsible Plan in Congress will revolve around our energy policy and how rapid progress on energy issues is necessary for us to solve key problems of the faltering economy, jobs, national security, food, and transportation. “The key to our nation’s future prosperity is reducing our consumption of fossil fuels and creating new green collar jobs in a clean energy economy.”

And the Mayor’s campaign to unseat Crazy Dana Rohrabacher continues to be the most exciting Congressional campaign in Orange County; no offense to progressive stalwart Steve Young’s great grassroots work over the past three years in the South County, or the troika of SL’s vying to throw themselves at Dirty Gary Miller (on which I defer to the judgment of my sparring partner Ms. Spinosa.) Contribute to the estimable Mayor here!
