If Santa Ana Councilwoman Claudia Alvarez succeeds in becoming a Judge, on the O.C. Superior Court, and this is a big if, she will have to vacate her seat on the Santa Ana City Council. That means that Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido and his crooked Council cabal will be able to appoint someone to finish Alvarez’ term. So who will that be?
We are talking about Ward 5, which is located in the northwest part of the city. It is likely, in my opinion, that Pulido would run Housing and Redevelopment Commissioner Jennifer Villasenor for Ward 5. She has already run for Ward 6, twice, and she was on the list of nominees for Ward 1, last year, when Pulido appointed Vince Sarmiento to replace Jose Solorio, who moved on to the State Assembly. If Pulido appoints Villasenor to Ward 5, it would be the third ward she has been involved in as a political candidate.
I wonder if that would tie Villasenor with Zeke Hernandez, who ran for the City Council many, many times, in just about every ward, and never won.
I can’t think of anyone else that Pulido would consider for this ward. There are several people who would consider running for the open seat, but Pulido would not likely support any of them.
I am told that the deadline for the open judge seats in Orange County is coming up soon. Will Claudia get appointed? Will Pulido appoint Villasenor? Will she move into Ward 5 in time? We will know soon, maybe by the end of the week.
UPDATE:
I received an email from Ms. Villasenor. She says she was not a candidate for Ward 1. But she did not indicate what her plans are for Ward 5. I suppose that really depends on whether Alvarez becomes a judge, which is of course a nightmarish prospect.
Sorry we goofed on the Ward 1 part of this story! I thought Villasenor was one of the candidates, but I am not sure how to even get a list of the candidates who were considered. I do know that Tim Whitacre, who advised Villasenor during her campaign, was one of those punked when Pulido opted to appoint Vince Sarmiento.
As long as they appoint a qualified Latino then I’m ok with several people including Villasenor.
Good luck to Villasenor. She couldn’t even win with Police and Fire supporting her. The Mayor’s blessing has become the KISS OF DEATH. Let’s see, hmmmm. Lupe Moreno (the mayor’s choice for school board) Fortino Rivera (what ever happened to him?), Sandy Naly (sic), Tom Lutz’ wife …….. and so on and so on.
And let’s not forget Planning Commish Sean Mills council candidate picks aka the guys and gals he supported which include Jose Fernandez, Winston Covington, that heavy set Mexican guy who worked for the labor unions, The old lady who listed a gas station as her home address named Brazelton, Rocko,Lyle Overby, The Jazz club who said he had Paul Walters endorsement, Zeke Hernandez, Hector Oliveras, Roman Palacios, John Raya, George Hanna, Gordon Bricken, Ana Vasquez and her REaltor sidekick Romero, the Peruvian lawyer with the office on Boadway, Dave Lopez, the black guy who moved to Las vegas who was Lopez’s buddy, ROn May, and many more. Seems like if you want to get elected you want to avoid Sean Mills endorsment and Pulidos endorsment. Seems like Pedroza is the one who usually backs the winners. Who do you like in this race Art? I’ll put my money down on Art’s picks.
ALmost forgot two more…Sean’s mom who ran for council and then Sean himself who tooks his moms old signs from her failed campain and wrote in his name over hers. I still say Art’s picks are best!
The fililng closed for Judges at 5:00pm on Monday, Feb 11th. Unless she gets appointed by the Governor, she will have to wait two years to run for Judge.
Jennifer Villasenor, “THE GYPSY CANDIDATE”. I love it. Jennifer la gitana!
Dear Anons: This post is about Jennifer the cheerleader candidate NOT Sean Mill or his mom. Just because Sean supported five candidates for council that were convicted of Felonys does not make Sean a bad guy.
“Sean supported five candidates for council that were convicted of Felonys”
Five????
Who were they?
Convicted felon Tim Rush has never run for council and if he did I am sure Sean would never support a racist like him.
Didn’t Mike Garcia say that 08 was a better year for him?
I’d vote for him, he knew when to get out of dodge.
Didn’t Sean Mill say he attended the yes on D victory party at the home of Claudia Alvarez, along with Sal Tinajero and Vince Sarmiento? Why would he attend such a thing? They took lots of money from Judy Ware who is trying to destroy Logan and he attorney Patrick Munoz is a racist in my opinion. He called the homes in Logan crummy.
Dear Anon,
The Five Felons are Ted Moreno, Hector Olivares, Tony Espinoza, Roman Palacios and soon to be Mike Corona. I don’t believe Tony’s wife Aida who was on the school board was ever convicted or it might have been more.
“Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves” Isn’t this a great campaign song for Pudrido & Clowns candidate?
#11,
I did support Ted, Tony, Aida, Hector and Roman. I am not ashamed of doing so either. They were all good folks that wanted to do what was best for Santa Ana. Sometimes good people make mistakes. Those folks have all paid for their mistakes.
For the record, Aida was never charged with a crime and I never supported Mike Carona. Please try and get your facts straight before attempting to slur me. Thanks!
Let see who did not have Pudrido’s endoresement. Claudia Alvarez, Sal Tinajero, Carlos Bustamante, Michelle Martinez. These four council people, in spite of the Mayor’s disapproval, worked hard to win the voters approval and earned their seats on the council. They beat the odds.
Remember Carlos Bustamante running around town with his heart on his sleeve crying that the Mayor told him there were too many Mexicans on the council. Remember Sal saying he wasn’t part of the Mayor’s cabal? What happened to Claudia? She wanted to make a difference. Now she’s in bed with developers. Michelle goes right along with the Mayor’s agenda and please someone tell her to stop saying she is doing things for the youth.
I guess they lost some brain cells and intelligence and believe Dave Ream is smarter than they are and leave him and Jill Arthur to run the City of Santa Ana all by themselves. Perhaps Bustamante, Alvarez, Tinajero and Martinez are just too dumb to run the City themselves. Poor brown skinned city council, you’ve been outsmated by a white man and woman.

Just the facts.
Lisa Bist was quoted in a newspaper article citing the mayor (Pulido) claimed there would be too many Mexicans on the council.
Bist enticed the press with this salty tidbit to lunge her candidate – Space Commander – into the cushy postion of defeating Nalle.
C’mon. At the time Bist & Alvarez were pissed with the mayor and were on one of their vengeful crusades.
Just the facts.
#15. Aren’t you lucky enough to not have had the displeasure of lisening to the Space Commander whine like a baby over the Mayor’s comments.
