There are some who say that California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger addled himself by abusing steroids and marijuana years ago. I had my doubts about that, but today the Total Buzz blog revealed that Schwarzenegger has appointed Santa Ana Councilman Carlos “Space Commander” Bustamante to the Fair Employment and Housing Commission.
I am not sure what Bustamante knows about Fair Employment and Housing. But Lord knows he has run through a lot of jobs. You have to wonder though about the wisdom of putting him on this commission, when Santa Ana is the county leader in home foreclosures in the current mortgage crisis.
And Bustamante is backing the ill-conceived Renaissance Plan – that does NOT mention anything about affordable housing. Moreover, he is now on the Board of Directors of the Santa Ana Business Bank. As if he did not have enough conflict of interest before, as a Councilman, now he is a state commissioner. Not good.
Plus Bustamante is a part of the most dysfunctional City Council in Orange County! He got blown out of the water last year when he ran for the First Supervisorial District. Maybe Schwarzenegger appointed him as some sort of affirmative action for politicians who are lame?
Perhaps Schwarzenegger was just repaying the alien that endorsed him when he ran for Governor, by giving the “Space Commander” a state post…
Everyone is a loon….. Huh?
Carlos should not even be a councilman. It is this kind of decision that makes the Governator look bad to everybody.
Art, what does it matter anyway? Carlos won’t be re-elected this year and when that happens, do you think people are going to bend backwards for him? NO! The title will be gone, and just as he will be “former” councilman Bustamante he will also be “former” state commissioner. When the title is gone, so is everything else, and thus so will Carlos.
The Governor as a candidate promised to “blow up the boxes” on the state organizaiton charts, and eliminate the myriad commissions, coouncils, Boards etc that have been used for patronage appointments. He has done neither, and in fact has eagerly perpetuated the patronage apointments. This one is but one of hundreds, perhaps thousands. The governor is charasmatic, but his promises (including the elimination of the State deficit) have been hollow. Same game plan, just a different captain at the helm, it seems.
its this kind of weekly world news journalism that continues to ruin this blog. Just more junk from Pedroza
no one takes anything you say seriously anymore
5 & 6: you guys are lame. Pedroza’s just having fun with serious issues. Viva Pedroza and Orange Juice!
I agree with #7. Although I’m not much of an Art fan, I do LOVE this blog.
Art, word of advice, perhaps you should start selling Orange Juice merchandise. Perhaps a “Viva Orange Juice!” bumper sticker or a coffee mug with an Orange on it that reads “have you had some lately? http://www.orangejuiceblog.com” Just some things to think about.
Considering your other post regarding the poorest people living here in Santa Ana, do you really WANT MORE affordable housing??? Don’t we want more of a balance in housing where the taxes can increase and pay for needed services? The state already forces us to build more than our proportional share based on faulty calculations for growth. Maybe Santa Ana needs a seat at the table when it comes to fair housing.
Poster 8,
Great idea! I think a “Santa Ana Light Rail” shirt with the picture of the donkey pulling a cart would be classic.
Thanks for reading our blog!
