What a month it has been for Supervisor Janet Nguyen. First former State Senator Joe Dunn decided not to take her on, clearing the path for an easy reelection, then today the California Court of Appeals punked Trung Nguyen by ruling that she DID beat him. And by three votes no less.
The OC Weekly goofed and published a cover story about her BEFORE the ruling came down. How dumb is that? They could have waited. But then they could have called some of her friends instead of interviewing only her enemies.
For one thing, they totally blew the reason why she fell out with Van Tran and his Trannies. She did not want to play along with their corrupt shakedowns of Vietnamese businessmen. And Tran kept trying to force her to spend campaign money on his followers. Janet ought to be applauded for running away from these corrupt bastards.
Paul Lucas got in his dig because Janet opposed his pal Dina Nguyen for Council. Of course she did. Why would Janet support ANY of the Trannies? I sure don’t blame her. But Lucas is bitter because Janet did not appoint him to a seat on the County Parks Commission. That is no reason to rip her! As I have said before, commission appointments barely matter. Folks shouldn’t sell their souls to get onto commissions. It just isn’t worth it.
And of course Ken Maddox ripped her. What a dork he is. I remember how thrilled I was when I helped John Campbell beat him for a State Senate seat. Maddox earned my wrath when he backed the O.C. PLA. That was about as stupid a thing for a Republican to do as I have ever seen. Ironically, that PLA also cost former Supervisor Cynthia Coad her career, as she too backed it. I helped Chris Norby beat her too.
Janet worked for both Maddox and Coad – but today she is a fervent opponent of PLAs. That is one of the reasons I warmed to her as a Supervisorial candidate. There is also an utter lack of pretension in Janet’s character. I have never known her to be egotistical or maniacally ambitious. She likes being in politics and likes serving the public. Unlike the Trannies, and Maddox, she has never been interested in politics to enrich herself. She just doesn’t roll that way.
The OC Weekly hatchet piece backfired though. Janet now has no Democratic opponent, and the court business is over. As for Trung? There is news coming down about him that is going to utterly destroy him as a candidate, now and forever. Keep your eyes open for that news. I cannot report it just now, but rest assured. He is DONE.
Come on Art, Don’t leave us hanging…I can’t sleep tonight until you tell us the BIG news coming that will destroy Trung! Por Favor !!! On another note, Art do you think Janet will get the OC GOP early endorsement on Monday night? I understand someone has pulled her name off the list of candidates and now she needs a 2/3 vote to get it…If she does not get it Mon will she try again like Corona did? Does Adam Probalsky have enough juice to overcome Mike Shroader who will be trying to stop her from getting 2/3’s? Will Van Tran be making phone calls to Central Comm members this weekend to ask them not to support her? Will Bill Campbell try to speak for her since he is being voted on too or will he just worry about getting himself endorsed? Is Chris Norby really sleeping in his office? Please give us your take on this since you are a former member and know better than most how this all works. Great post by the way.
Poster 1,
The OC GOP Central Committee members would prove to be complete idiots if they don’t endorse Supervisor Nguyen. It is very bad form to oppose an incumbent, especially when she has done a great job.
And Schroeder ought to be ashamed of himself. Many county Republicans are certainly sick of him. Carona’s indictment is the beginning of the end for Mikey.
Norby already told us that he sometimes snoozes in his office. Hell, I’m sure Jim Silva falls asleep at his desk all the time, probably drools all over himself…
As for Trung, if you can read Vietnamese, check out the Vietnamese media. The story is already breaking there…
After reading the OC Weekly article, I see Paul Lucas still has a grudge with Supervisor Nguyen over not being selected as her appointment to the Harbors, Beaches, and Parks Commission.
Is Dina Nguyen and her handler Van Tran now going to help Paul Lucas out in his Garden Grove City Council campaign?
Suprv Nguyen had a great letter to editor in today’s Register. I agree with her – let’s not limit the search to replace Carona with only OC candidates. Take the search nationwide. We deserve the best!
Thank you for the great article, and I appreciate the background information. It’s not a surprise that info is forthcoming about Trung. The GOP handlers at the top visciously attack ethical challengers who run for office just because they’re independent of the lobbyist group. Then the GOP bigwigs end up spending a fortune on criminal defense to keep their favorite politicians out of jail.
Art, if I didn’t have a better sense of your preferences, I would swear you must be sleeping with Janet.
After reading the OC Weekly article, it sounds like Paul Lucas tried to sleep with Janet, but like with decisions such as commission appointments, Janet was smart enough to tell Paul Lucas NO!
Art,
So you know, I was misquoted in that article. I did not tell Nick I was yelled at by Janet for Supporting Dina. She yelled at me for something else. but the sentiment was the same. Janet has a problem with getting hot under the collar with people.
