I had a long phone call with a friend today. He noticed that State Senator Dick Ackerman is not publicly opposing Prop. 93. Why is that? Turns out that if 93 loses, the Democrats will likely seize a legislative majority that will allow them to pass future state budgets with NO input from the Republican legislators. Oops! No wonder Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is backing 93.
But if 93 loses, we will see 42 legislators get termed out. We can get rid of Don Perata and Fabian Nunez! Now that sounds like a good plan to me. So on Feb. 5 let’s vote the bums out!
As for the GOP, the fact is they need to realize that being social extremists has put them in the minority position they are in. I don’t think they will learn that until they lose more seats, so good riddance.
Vote no on Prop. 93!
Interesting post Art. You always make me think. In what way do you believe Republican’s are social “extremists”? Can you please give some specific examples?
Poster 1,
I think the two most glaring examples are abortion and gay marriage.
Abortion has become a non-issue. Today’s young people just are not into it. Just look at Hollywood right now. Knocked Up and Juno were both big hits – and both featured heroines that HAD their unplanned babies.
As for gay marriage, I think we have turned the corner on that one. Most folks today just are not anti-gay anymore. Honestly, if the Reeps are so damn serious about marriage, why don’t they STOP dumping their wives for twenty-somethings? Just how many times have Rudy Giuliani and Newt Gingrich been married anyway?
The biggest threat to marriage is men who dump their wives so they can “upgrade” to younger women. Gays are absolutely no threat.
Now the specter of gay divorce does scare the hell out of me, but let’s hope they have better luck staying together than the rest of us do.
Back on point….who would want to
vote themselves out of office?
Senator Hayakawa was the last guy
we can think of…..but then he
slept through his two terms and
came back home! Too bad our CA
Legislators can’t follow suit.
NO, NAAHHH, NOT A CHANCE, NEVER..
and for good measure….Are you
kidding?
NO on 93!
Art, again – what is your deal? You honestly think gay marriage and abortion are why Republicans are the minority in the CA Legislature? Are you dumb or what?
Its called entitlement and racial politics. Urban voters go for the candidate who promises them stuff and panders to the new racial paradigm in CA.
Art.
Please set aside social issues for the moment. I recommend a NO vote on Prop 93 even though our side will lose some top players including Senators Dick Ackerman and Tom McClintock.
This is a self serving measure to extend the terms for Democratic leaders Fabian Nunez and Don Perata who will be out on the street after this measure fails.

You are on point. This is the biggest joke that everyone has not heard about in the state. A number of Republican seats are in play. They know it. The odds of those seats staying Republican are not good. The internal polls are showing this. And they are scared to death. The campaign focused on the transition and on Nunez and Perata. They underestimated the public reaction to the budget stalemate and to the issue of health care reform. The various external public policy polls have shown this over the last 8-9 months-PPIC/Field/SJState-Nehring knows what is going down-they cannot stop the tsunami that is going to happen. They know that 93 is going to pass-with the Govs endorsement (which I cannot talk about) the broader issues will be dealt with. Here in Sacramento, we can spot the Reeps by the large bullet holes in their shoes. The Reeps, as a result of their stupidity, focused on the transition period and not on the larger picture-Arnold gets what he wants-a break in the budget stalemate without expense of any political capital-the stalemate may happen this summer but it will be minimal-and will not happen next year-done deal-this is going to be a brutal session cut short because of the fall elections- The Reeps that are termed out, by the way, secretly want 93 to pass-but because of their stupid statements and lack of political acumen and foresight as well as regimented thinking, the California Republican Party, exemplified by such brilliant OC Republican party afterthoughts as Mike “I am the second coming of Sherman-my march through the OC will be like no other” Schroeder, Jon “Carona is my hero-my timesheets are signed” Fleischmann, Matt “I support Tod” Cunningham, and Carlos “Keep those Cordoba/Pla dollars coming my way” Bustamante, and the indescribable Diane Harkey, will see major losses this year. Centrist Republicans in the know here in Sacramento see this coming. If you dont believe me, wait until November and watch.
Social Extremists? Why not just say that Republicans hate the poor? Even though the Indian Gaming props passed, California Democrats are still spending more money than the state has. If anyone is Social Extremists it’s the California Democrats, writing checks that won’t cash.
