I heard from a very connected Democratic pajarito today that former State Senator Joe Dunn IS running against Supervisor Janet Nguyen this year. He has not made a formal announcement, but my source says he will be doing so before the end of the month.
What a waste of money and time this is going to be for Dunn. He is going to lose and lose big, in my opinion. If the Democrats really want to take out Nguyen, they need to recruit a Latino candidate. And I am not talking about Santa Ana Council Member Claudia “Clownia” Alvarez. When Measure D loses in February, her awful political career will be OVER. She will be as finished as Tom Umberg, last year’s great white Democratic hope in the First District.
And when Dunn loses to yet another Asian (he lost to John Chiang when he ran for State Controller), he too will be as finished as Umberg.
Dunn will NOT be supported by State Senator Lou Correa, Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido, Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez or Assemblyman Jose Solorio, according to my pajarito. So who is left? A bunch of white trial lawyers?
Too bad. I think Dunn could have beaten Santa Ana Councilman Carlos “Space Commander” Bustamante for Ward 3 on the Santa Ana City Council. Now he will just lose to Nguyen and be finished in politics. He may even lose his job with the California Medical Association before this is all over. I guess he can always go back to being a trial lawyer when this is all over.
How much did the Democratic Party of Orange County blow on Umberg’s Supervisorial race last year? And how much will they now blow on Dunn’s race? What an awful waste of money.
Art,
You remind me of Danny Devitos Character on LA Confidential. Hush Hush!…Your electronic publication has degraded into nothing but a cheap gossip rag rife with nothing but inuendo and trash.
Go play with your buddy Phil Bacerra and TALK about Measure D, and then do nothing.
Art with the latest GREAT hit piece the Atttorney General wrote against janet….she is toast my dear…and burnt toast at that.
annon 5:09 PM:
Lets see who is toast after this election. I’m sure she’ll take both Dunn and the Trannies. It’s to bad Dunn really thinks he can win.
everyone knows these comments are most likely coming from the trannies. we know how much you dislike Janet so I can’t wait to see her clean house once again.
Here we go again. The post is about Joe Dunn and then somebody comes on to talk about Measure D. I smell somebody trying to change the subject.
Art,
I hope your source was not the same one that told you Joe was running against Bustamante for Ward 3 in Santa Ana. If and when Joe Dunn decides to run, I am certain you will not be the person to make that announcement.
There were stories out there regarding support for a Dunn run for Supervisor, I believe I wrote about them a while ago. But since Dunn has not yet announced his intentions, I think it is a bit early for you to state who will support, and who will not support his campaign if he runs.
Also, I am pretty sure that Loretta, Jose, and Lou will not be turning to you to make their announcements for them.
I’m happy to wait for a formal announcement from Dunn regarding his intentions and for formal announcements from Loretta, Jose, and Lou regarding who they might support.
I really only read what you have to say for its “entertainment value.”
#6,
That is the strategy. #1 and his/her group do it at every opportunity.
Ironically #1 states,”Your electronic publication has degraded into nothing but a cheap gossip rag rife with nothing but inuendo and trash”. Then gose into doing exactly what he/she accuses Art P. of doing. It is comical and hypocritical.
Chris,
You got scooped. Just accept it and move on. You don’t have to be sore about it.
My source on this story was a very legitimate source. That is all I can say about it.
BTW, why didn’t your blog mention Don Perata’s hypocrisy regarding the fact that he wants us to reduce auto emissions, but he drives a V8 Dodge Charger muscle car? Oh, that’s right, you guys cover up for Dems even when they deserve to be ripped…
Break lose from your blue handcuffs Chris. Your blog will be better for it.
I believe Mr. Dunn would be a wonderful Supervisor. I thought you liked him Art when he was not running against your gal!
Poster 10,
I like the fact that our current Supervisor is a minority, and a woman. And she is doing a great job. Why replace her with Dunn?
I would happily back him if he were to take on the Space Commander in Ward 3, but I won’t support Dunn against Nguyen. No way.
Art:
You are consistent about supporting incompetent women of color.
If Joe runs, Janet may have to get a real job.
Art,
Since you bring up Ward 3 (again), I’m curious… What ward do you live in?
Chris,
I live in Ward 3. You must not be reading this blog regularly as I have attested to that several times over the past year.
Yes Chris pay attention…doncha know that in “art’s” world – the world revolves around Him, and if you dont pay attention to his life’s details you must be a moron.
Flowerszzz,
Chris was obviously being coy. In his next post he will no doubt ask why I am not running against the Space Commander.
I am still trying to find someone to run for Ward 3. I really don’t want to as it would hurt my ability to blog about what is going on in Santa Ana.
I am sure we will find someone. There is no way the Space Commander is going to get a free ride.
Art,
What has Janet contributed to her constituents other than running up her budget and trying to give the residents of Westminster more housing dollars? Seriously, have you heard her speak at the Board of Supervisor’s meeting?
We love Joe Dunn…but Janet
has been a good new look….
she has played it too cozy on
a few things however…and maybe
Joe can be a little tougher on
the issues and challenge Moorlach
and Norby more directly. Sad
however, because it is always
nice to see “new blood” trying
to work within the process.
We suggest that Joe goes after
a state-wide office….maybe
go against Michelle Steel for
the Board of Equalization…..
even though … we love Michelle.
She has been great and even offers
a newsletter! OK, Joe….try
Attorney General against “Downtown
Jerry Brown”! Think a bigger stage! As mom said: “Think big,
be big!”
Art you are correct about the reason I asked the question about what ward you live in. Since you are so loose with your facts, it’s difficult to know what is real and what is fiction coming from you.
There are people who whine that there should be change, there are people who throw rocks and call that change, and there are prople who actually step up to the plate and work for change.
Rather than try to find someone to do what you think should be done, step away from your computer and do it yourself. Art there are plenty of credible bloggers on the Orange Juice who could pick up the slack if you were to take a leave of absence and run for City Council.
But I’m pretty certain that you do not have the guts to take the steps needed for real change and run for City Council in Ward 3. Then we could see how many people “really agree with you” or how many people who think your just a rock thrower.
Maybe it is a good idea for ex-state senator to replace the 1st supervisor, He can then put all his efforts in getting that crook out of the treasury office before the county goes bankrupt again , and then springboard back into state office just like the last Democrat office holder did.
I LIKE MIKE, Garcia that is, for County Supervisor!
How anyone can state that any of the County Supervisors are doing a great job is amazing. By what criteria is this greatness measured? Those 5 ego-maniacs who spend most of their meetings trying to get their sound bites on camera for the few who watch their meetings on delayed cable in reality accomplish very little. Their main focus seems to be on trying to curtail pension benefits of county employees – benefits this same body (with different members) approved in the first place. And, the jury is still out on the need for them to take this action or whether they will succeed. Yawn —
Draft Mike Garcia for County Supervisor!
I am not advocating on Art’s behalf in anyway, but Chris has also spread rumors about Dunn without checking them out first. The bloggers in OC will say anything to increase there readership.
#24 There is a big difference between stating that there are rumors about something and stating those rumors as fact.
I do not believe I have gone to the extent of claiming rumors as fact. In reviewing the post you seem to be referring to; I think I was pretty clear that I was relaying what I had heard. I beliieve I also stated that I hoped it was untrue.
In the case of this post of Art’s, he stated two things as fact that are only rumor. First that “former State Senator Joe Dunn IS running against Supervisor Janet Nguyen this year,” and that “Dunn will NOT be supported by State Senator Lou Correa, Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido, Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez or Assemblyman Jose Solorio.”
You may consider it a narrow distinction, but I think it is a big one.
Chris,
Dunn IS running. And the Latino politicians I referenced are NOT supporting him. Nor will they back Janet. They are going to sit this one out. Dunn and the DPOC are going to blow a big wad of cash for no reason…
Yes Art,
…and Supervisor Norby is getting a divorce, was found passed out drunk on the Old Courthouse steps, is living in his office, and oh yes, Joe Dunn is running against Carlose Bustamante for Santa Ana City Council in Ward 3.
I hope Joe Dunn does run. But since he has not announced, it is highly premature to assert that none of the electeds you cited will support his candidacy should he decide to run.
Chris,
Most of that story on Norby was true. He confirmed it. There were some differences, but I said all along that the allegations were exactly that…I never presented them as fact.
But this time I am telling you that Dunn is running. My source on this is impeccable. Mark my words…he is running. And he is going to lose.
As for the politicians who are not backing him, folks in my area know he has a history with each of them. Trust me, he is going to have a Hell of a time picking up their support. I think he is going to have even less endorsements than Tom Umberg did.
It is not too late for Dunn to change his mind and take on the Space Commander. I hope he reconsiders. But my source says he won’t.
