Is Santa Ana Councilman Sal Tinajero the next Nativo Lopez? You may recall that Lopez was recalled from the Santa Ana School Board, when he served on that board with Tinajero.
Most political pundits thought it was impossible to recall a Latino politician in Santa Ana. But the results of the Lopez recall were stunning:
100% Precincts Reporting Votes
Yes 8,908 70.6 %
No 3,706 29.4 %
Less than a third of the voters supported Lopez.
Now Santa Ana residents are in a massive uproar since Tinajero booted Thomas Gordon from the EPIC/Gang Commission. The story has been reported in the O.C. Register and the L.A. Times. It also got picked up on MSNBC.com and on the California League of Cities, the Liberal OC and Red County/OC Blogs.

nd now there is talk that Santa Ana activists want to recall Tinajero, who just started his four year term this year. Tinajero does not appear to have any friends left in the world, with the exception of our co-blogger Sean Mill. In fact I am told that Tinajero has a half dozen appointments to make to Santa Ana City Commissions, but no one wants to be tainted by him.
So Orange Juice readers, are you ready to recall Tinajero? History shows it can be done…
It is feasible to work on defeating Measure D while also gathering signatures to recall Tinajero. Defeating Measure D will mean that Councilwoman Claudia Alvarez will be termed out next year. Then we can take out Council Members Vince Sarmiento and Carlos “Space Commander” Bustamante in next year’s Council elections.
A year from now Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido and his cabal could be finished. That did not appear possible a few months ago. Now their fate appears to be set in stone.
I’m a latino Dem who has always supported Sal because I thought he cared about our kids on the school board and our residents on the council. Since Monday’s vote, I have never been more disgusted and ashamed of a politician before more so than George Bush.
If there is a recall Sal effort I will not only sign that petition, but I will help you walk as well. I will encourage my fellow Latino bretheren to also support removing Sal. We Latinos may stick together, but we care about this city, and the removal of Mr. Gordon from EPIC shows me that Sal has turned his back on our Latino community.
I want Sal gone now.

Is Fat Sal “The enforcer” Tinajero the next Nativo? Actually he’s worse. Nativo was pretty open about where he stood, right or wrong.
Fat Sal has quietly intruded into politics first as a teacher wanting to help the poor kids in his city while teaching in Fullerton where the pay may or may not be better, but the benefits certainly are since Fat Sal helped cut them while a board member at SAUSD.
Fat Sal became the obvious butt-boy for the SAUSD board which in turn was noticed by the city council and mayor. Needing a low profile with a ‘do-gooder’ reputation, Fat Sal was the perfect candidate for city politics.
Firmly planted in the city council it became payback time by Fat Sal for all those free dinners and burgers which made him fat. Now the real Fat Sal is exposed.
So is Fat Sal the next Nativo? I don’t know but he obviously is a sneaky back room politico criminal who has posed as the saviour of our kids while having his own agenda.

You are right about Orange Juice being like TMZ, but what TMZ does is what Santa Ana and OC need, a spotlight on the activities of our elected officials. Way to go Orange Juice!
