The O.C. Register reported today that former Anaheim Union High School District Board Member Harald Martin, a rabid anti-Mexican who is also a Republican, won’t be running for an open seat on the AUHSD Board of Education. Thank God!
Martin resigned from that seat a few weeks ago, after Latino activists pressured him into quitting by collecting signatures to force a special election.
The Register article included a list of the candidates for this seat:
- Vernon F. Beckett, retired teacher
- Jordan Brandman, educator/city commissioner
- Denis Fitzgerald, retired corporation president
- Robert J. Flores, businessman
Brandman, a Democrat, almost won a seat on the AUHSD school board last year. He is the clear favorite to win the open seat this time around. His supporters include both Democrats and Republicans.
There has been some sentiment by Latino activists in Anaheim that the seat should go to a Latino, but I never heard of Robert J. Flores. His designation of “businessman” doesn’t tell me much. At least Brandman can say that he has worked in the California Department of Education. I do look forward to finding out more about Flores. We will report what we discover here on the Orange Juice.
Martin said he won’t be attending AUHSD school board meetings. Instead, he will be dedicating “much of his energy in coming months on issues related to the fight against illegal immigration.” What a loser! Adios Harald Martin! Please stay away this time…
for a person who claims to be independent art all you do is bash republicans when are we going to do a negative story on one of your OWN and dont tell me that they are angles . oh i forgot your down the middle sure you art . down the middle on the far left .
I just knocked the Democrats yesterday in my post, “Red County, Blue County, what’s the difference?”
But in Orange County, the biggest losers just happen to be the Reeps. Maybe because more of them are elected? Or more of them are racist and/or corrupt?
If there is sentiment that the seat go to a Latino you would not have known it at Jordan’s fundraiser last week. ALL the activists attended.
Flowerszzz,
What the heck does an immigrant-bashing Republican Trannie like yourself know about the sentiments of Orange County’s Latino community?
I have indeed heard that some folks wanted to see a Latino candidate for this seat. But Flores is the only one who materialized.
I for one am backing Jordan.
LOL Art you wanna fight? Meet me by the back stop after school!!! If you are supporting Jordan so very much you must have hidden yourself well at his event last week. AND are you putting your money where your mouth is?
Flowerszzz,
I work for a restoration and abatement company. We have over two hundred open jobs right now, in the wake of the wind and firestorms. I drove to San Diego three times last week. I just don’t have time for fundraisers right now.
But Jordan knows I support his campaign. And we blogged about it here at the OJ twice. Those were some of Claudio’s last posts.
As for my dinero, I have given money to a candidate exactly once in my lifetime. I generally don’t donate money to candidates. I have four kids! And Christmas is coming up. I don’t have the extra moolah to be doling out gifts to candidates.
I do my part by blogging. And as you now know, that is a lot of work.
And as you now know, that is a lot of work.
Yep, being spiteful and dishonest is very hard work, Art. You must be all worn out.
The Los Amigos folks did great work on the special election thing, but you shortchange everyone else involved by giving all the credit to “Latino activists.” It was a broad-based effort.
When are you going to give up this chicano phase, Art? You’re like some pocho who goes to college, joins MeCHA and thinks he’s Cesar Chavez.
Poster 7,
I am shortchanging no one. I wrote on this blog many times during the collection of signatures by the activists in Anaheim about the players who were involved. Most were Latino, but there were others involved as well. We never said otherwise.
How exactly have I been spiteful and dishonest in this or any other post? Yes, I do not hold back from slamming the many machine politicians in this county. Perhaps you are one of them. Or one of their equally useless acolytes.
I ran away from my identity for years, as a Republican. I am free now as an independent to be who I am. If you don’t like that, I suggest you refrain from reading this blog.
We never said otherwise.
Art, you did as much in this post:
Martin resigned from that seat a few weeks ago, after Latino activists pressured him into quitting by collecting signatures to force a special election.
How exactly have I been spiteful and dishonest in this or any other post?
Not this post in particular, just as you weren’t talking about this post in particular when groaning about how much work blogging is. You’re spiteful and dishonest in your posts in general.
Poster 9,
Well, the activists WERE just about all Latino activists. And the effort was started by Los Amigos. And an article I wrote when Martin was appointed ended up being handed out at events to rally the troops.
If you think I have been spiteful, well you probably have had it coming.
And yes, blogging is a lot of work. You may choose not to recognize that, but that doesn’t make it untrue. When I began this blog, it was just me, and I was happy to get a hundred hits a day. We now have over a dozen writers and we average over five hundred hits a day. And this blog is still growing.
It is however a worthwhile labor. We have helped to bring about a lot of change in this County, and there is still a lot more to be accomplished. Grumble if you will, but you cannot stop us. And you can call me spiteful and dishonest all day, but that doesn’t make it true.
When the early American patriots seized a ship that wasn’t theirs and tossed tea over board that wasn’t theirs, they were called heroes. Today they would be tossed in jail. Agents of change always push the envelope…and inevitably someone takes offense. Oh well. If you don’t like it, no one is forcing you to read this blog. Perhaps Red-faced County would be more to your liking…
LMAO off Art did you JUST compare yourself and this blog to the Boston Tea Party???
Flowerszzz,
Back when Matt Cunningham was trying to convince us that “Jubal” was someone other than him, he and his anon cohorts at Red-Faced County often referenced the fact that some of the early American patriots used to use pen names when they wrote letters that were published. Ben Franklin was one of the figures named.
I do think that today’s political bloggers work in the same spirit as those patriots. Imagine if Paul Revere had been able to access the Internet. It would have saved him a wild ride by being able to post something on a blog instead or tearing around on a horse to tell us that the English were coming.
I have also often made the point that in Santa Ana this blog is the revolution. You can scoff at that if you like, but we are informing the public and bringing about change.
That is what we helped to do in Anaheim when we immediately excoriated Harald Martin and the AUHSD board that appointed him. The key vote to pick him was cast by Thomas Holguin, who is now finished politically.
So while our actions may not be remembered as universally as the Boston Tea Party, Holguin and Martin at least feel like THEIR tea got dumped in the ocean…
So Art you consider this blog modeled after the OC Blog then? Make up your mind….and if you dislike Jubal so very much why do you constantly use his examples to defend yourself? It is quite comical.
Ohhh and btw the register article that you quote says NOTHING about Martin focussing his energy on illegal immigration. Why do you quote it here as if that was what the register printed? I am no fan of Martin….but I like people who make stuff up to help prove their points even less. The exaggeration was not necessary to sell you case.
Flowerszzz,
No. This blog started BEFORE Red-faced County/OC Blog did. Get your facts straight.
I mentioned them only to underscore the fact that blogs other than mine have referenced the patriots as their inspiration, including the blog you write anonymously for.
As for the Martin quote, I pulled it right from the article. It was in the last paragraph. I just checked the article and apparently the Register cut that part out. I assure you when I posted my article it was there. Why they cut it, I don’t know. I reported what I saw.
I can tell you that the Register often puts up new stories online before they hit the press. When they do put them in their newspaper, they often have to cut them because of space considerations. The quote I referenced was in the last paragraph. Generally editors will cut from the end of an article.
Nice try attacking me yet again, in this case for something I had nothing to do with. Why don’t you email the reporter who wrote the article and verify what I quoted?
Ohhh you mean I was attacking you? Like this quote you said about me: “What the heck does an immigrant-bashing Republican Trannie like yourself know…” LOL I just have a question for you oh mr “fact” checker…..when have I ever bashed immigrants?
Flowerszzz,
I seem to recall quite a few exchanges between you and some of our other readers about immigration.
Are you saying that now you support immigrants? Please don’t drag out that tired Republican phrase “you support LEGAL immigrants.”
Do you or don’t you support immigrants? Did you support Prop. 187? Do you support the Carona ICE program, or the similar one in Costa Mesa? Did you support the Dream Act?
I doubt you have done anything to support immigrants. But if you want to give the illusion that you do, be my guest. You are a Trannie and they HATE immigrants, except for their own kind.
In case you need it spelled out for you, I call you a Trannie because you are one of the many foolish Republicans who buy into Van Tran’s B.S.
I have said time and again here Art that I personally support legal immigration reform and I support amnesty for those that have made families here. I would like to make those that have been born and raised here legal taxpaying citizens. HOWEVER, if they are here illgally and break a law….like driving drunk, drugs, murder, etc….they should be deported immediately…whether or not they have family here.
btw, I do not know nor have I ever spoken to Van Tran…and I have no idea nor do I pay attention to what he says about anything.
so if you fight against ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION in pedrozas world you are a loser . the question you should have asked art is dose art pedroza support ILLEGAL ALIENS . dose art support giving driving lincenses to illegals , dose art support giving tuition to illegals over U . S. citizens . and are YOU for costa mesa to start ENFORCING THE LAWS OF THE U.S.A . we all know his anwser is yes to the all of the above except for the last one wich would be no .
Flowers,
Please leave the Art bashing over at Jubie’s blog. This thread is about the special election for AUHSD.
This race is very important to those of us within this district. Art, is the filing deadline passed? A lot of talk at Jordan’s event was about Martin not running, but secretly rounding up wingnuts to support former boardmember Rob Stewart. Have you heard anything about Martin rounding up minutepeople to affect outcome?
Just asking…lmao…please look who threw the first stone. I made the point that all the Latino activists are indeed supporting Jordan and ALL attended Jordan’s event last week and he bashed me. I am a HUGE Jordan fan.
And even tho you were asking Art, I can answer that yes the filing has closed. Stewart is not running, and since Jordan is so widely supported I suspect that it will be difficult for anyone to round up the minutemen to be involved.
Go Flowerszzz! The more Art talks, the more ridiculous he looks.
Art gets lathered up because Carona has been indicted for breaking the law and rips anyone who endorsed him, and at the same time rejects the distinction between entering this country legally or illegally and rips anyone who points out that distinction.
Law-breaking is law-breaking, Art. You can’t pick and choose.
But then, you’re Art Pedroza, so consistency doesn’t apply!
No. This blog started BEFORE Red-faced County/OC Blog did. Get your facts straight.
Yeah — and nobody read it. OC Blog was really the first political blog in OC. Jubal created the OC blogosphere that you jumped back into long after he’d started OC Blog, and I’m sure that bugs you know end. He even promoted your blog, which he probably regrets.
Please leave the Art bashing over at Jubie’s blog. This thread is about the special election for AUHSD.
Get a grip, just…asking. Art is Mr. Off-Topic, and he’s always the first to resort to personal attacks. He shouldn’t surprised when others respond in kind.
What is the story with the other candidates in this race, besides Jordan Brandman?
I would like to know who the people are that are going to eventually lose to Jordan.
Ok, let me get this straight…if you are Republican…you are also anti-Mexican…hmmmm What I think is that you can be Republican OR Democrat and be anti-ILLEGAL immigration. You can’t have anyone come in to this country and the school district and DEMAND rights that are not yours to demand. Martin’s job is to the students and families that are here legally. Sorry.
#25,
The City of Anaheim does not agree with you or Mr. Martin. That is why Mr. Martin resigned under pressure.
I am just stating an observation.
