O.C. Register relies on National Enquirer chisme, as reporter loses Edwards interview

O.C. Register reporter Martin Wisckol has come under scrutiny over at Liberal OC after he revealed on his Total Buzz blog that he lost an interview with Elizabeth Edwards. And why did he lose that interview?

Well, Wisckol insisted on asking about a RUMOR that Democratic candidate John Edwards had an affair. And where did that rumor appear? The National Enquirer. Who knew Wisckol even bothered reading that rag?

Here are a few excerpts from the National Enquirer story about Edwards’ purported affair:

Sources have come forward to charge that the “other woman” previously worked on Edwards’ campaign and followed the 54-year-old candidate on trips across the U.S.

A source close to the woman, whose name is being withheld by The NATIONAL ENQUIRER, says that she confessed to having an affair in phone calls and emails, saying that her work with Edwards soon exploded into romance.
