The fallout from the Santa Ana City Council’s attempt to remove me, Thomas Gordon and Sean Mill from our appointed City Commissions because we write critical blog posts about Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido and his council puppets continued unabated today.
I was interviewed by Martin Syjuco, the Opinion Editor of the El Don newspaper at Santa Ana College. I suspect there will be a commentary in their next edition.
I also received a phone call from a reporter at the O.C. Register, who informed me that apparently someone at the City of Santa Ana posted a query on a California League of Cities bulletin board asking if anyone had a good example of a “Code of Conduct” for local elected officials and their appointees. Hmmm….interesting timing. Could this be the latest attempt to censor us? I wonder if blogging will be referenced on the eventual Santa Ana Code of Conduct? It sure sounds like Censorshipgate Round II.
Speaking of the California League of Cities, one of their associates will be publishing a commentary I wrote about this week’s events on his blog tomorrow. That blog is read by some 6,000 local elected officials. I can only hope that they will learn from Santa Ana’s mistake and not try to censor the bloggers in their respective areas.
The local blogs also covered the censorship scandal. You can read about it at Liberal OC and at Red County/OC Blog, as well as at the OC Weekly’s Navelgazing Blog. The OC Weekly’s R. Scott Moxley also mentioned the story in his “Monday’s Headlines & Surprises.”
One of our commenters, Preston L. Bannister, also informed us that apparently we made it onto NPR last night. I know that the story was picked up on KFWB, and I was interviewed by Chip Franklin on KOGO, in San Diego, on their morning show. We also heard from folks as far away as Denver, reporting that they too heard about the censorship scandal on their local news stations.
If the Santa Ana City Council persists and actually removes us from our commissions, I think we will end up on Larry King Live! They’re going to need a pretty wide lens to film me, Sean and Thomas…

You guys need to watch your backs with Assistant City Manager Standiford. She’s notorious for using rules and policies to shut people up. Very thin skinned, she doesn’t like outsiders (read citizens here) messing up her plans.
Whether or not you stay on a commission appointment, please stay on the job here! You do a great service if only the awareness you bring to city issues. While the multitude of problems with Santa Ana leadership is beyond comical, it also does exist in other cities albiet on a lesser scale. You give people courage to participate in their governments, that is what America is all about!
All three of you deserve to be tossed off your respective commissions. You serve at the pleasure of the council, yet you have the temerity to print falsehoods and spread rumors about them. They have every right to remove you, so don’t cry about it.

We are private citizens who run this blog. This “our” blog. If we do not want people using profanity on “our” blog that is “our” right. I am quite sure that you wouldn’t allow people use profanity in your home around your family if you did not want them to.

As to the First Amendment. You can whatever you want, however, it does not apply to this blog. the same is true if you send Letters to the Editor of any local newspaper. They reserve the right to accpt or decline your
submissions. I know from personal experience that many of my submissions never get published.
While we can disagree in our stories there must be a code of conduct for the benefit of all the other Juice readers. Stanley appears to be very argumentative from a review of his earlier comments. While we work diligently to raise the bar, improve the quality and quantity of “actual” editorials, not simply links to stories as typical on most other blogs, we deserve the right to only permit comments that our children can read and are not personal attacks on members of our families which has happened in the past. Foul language will not be tolerated.
I email my posts to almost 1,000 associates around the country on many of the stories which I submit. I do not wish to expose them to trash comments as I work to get them to add the Juice blog as a favorite source of political information. Everyone is welcome to challenge my articles but show some class in doing so. If you are a regular reader you will notice that I have challenged Claudio, Sean and Art from time to time if I have a different opinion of their posts. At times they will add comment on my stories. That’s healthy. Adding “stuff” that has no bearing on the stories we submit, or on questions we may pose, is simply a sign of immaturity or an effort to paint our blog as a laughing stock in the County.

We have gone round and round with Stanley. He is absolutely unreasonable. He refuses to post comments without using the “F” word.
We were forced to moderate our posts when Stanley went bonkers last year and literally posted dozens of posts that were nothing but the “F” word repeated over, and over, and over.
What in the world does that add to the conversation? It is just insane!
I would posit that if a man is unable to defend his views without resorting to cuss words, then his brain is a tiny one indeed.
BTW, Stanley tried to argue once that he had Tourette’s Syndrome. That was the stupidest thing I have EVER read. Everyone knows that Tourette’s Syndrome applies only to verbal communication, not to typing. Am I to believe that Stanley’s keyboard had Tourette’s Syndrome?
The truth, as far as I can tell, is that Stanley’s brain was addled when he lived in the then Communist Czechoslovakia. Perhaps he was tortured by fascist soldiers? Maybe they hooked up batteries to his body and shocked him?
Regardless, the Stanley we know today appears to be a sandwich or two short of a picnic. It is quite sad really.

Let us set aside the big words for a moment and look at the basic issues underlying our conflict with the city versus Stanley’s conflict with us.
The City Council told us to stop blogging or we would be tossed from our commissions. That, plain and simple, was an attempt not only to limit what we were saying, but to stop it altogether.
We have asked Stanley to refrain from using the “F” word on this blog. That is a limit on his free speech, but it is NOT an attempt to utterly stop him from commenting. Ask yourself this question, can Stanley make his point without using the “F” word? Of course!
In fact Stanley could refer to “f***” and I would allow it. He need not use the rest of the letters. We would instantly know what he meant.
The truth is that Stanley, from the start, realized that we would never allow the use of the “f” word on this blog. So he decided to make ample use of it…on purpose. To force us to delete his posts.
The rationale being that he would then turn on us and declare that we are censors.
So you see Stanley created this problem in order to prove what is in fact a very lame point.
The truth is that Stanley hates us because we have succeeded at something he has completely failed at. We have found a way to matter. And a way to have an impact on society. Stanley has never mattered. And he certainly has no impact.

I am reminded that for some reason a HUGE number of psychologists are actually as nutty as Stanley.
As for the meaning, I imagine that the intent of the statement is to proclaim that the “it” being referred to is “very” beautiful.
However, the statement, which because it is written is devoid of emotion and thus intent, could also mean something else. The person making the statement could be saying in a sardonic fashion that whatever he is referring to is in fact the opposite of beautiful.
