The Santa Ana City Council is celebrating the 2007 U.S. Olympic Boxing Trials Bronze Medal Winner, Ronny Rios, this Tuesday, September 4, 2007 @ 5:45 p.m., at the City Hall Courtyard (area near the entrance to the Council Chambers).
The Mayor and City Council will present Ronny with a proclamation that will proclaim Tuesday, September 4, 2007 as Ronny Rios Day during the presentations portion of the City Council Meeting.
Please come out and celebrate Santa Ana’s own Ronny Rios!
But how does Ronny feel about term limits for the Mayor? I wish he would run for the City Council because the youth are our future leaders. We need more young people like Ronny and Michele Martinez on the Council.
When does Ronny turn 18? What council ward does he live in? It’s really not too early for him to declare himself a candidate and begin raising money now while is name I.D. is so high in Santa Ana. In fact, why can’t we turn this Ronny Rios day into a fund raiser? Come on out to the event and bring your check bood! Does anyone know where we can get yard signs printed or is it too early still for next years elections? I’ll put a Rios for Santa Ana City council on my car too.
“I could understand doing this if Ronny had won in Houston, but he lost.”
#1,
However, he is Hispanic and they do not need to perform to get whatever under the affirmative action.
Claudia Alvarez got a law degree without passing the California Bar exams.
I wouldn’t call a Bronze Medal Winner a loser. Ronny’s victory should be an inspiration for all our youth in Santa Ana. This young man accomplished more in three years than many of us could only hope to achieve. Ronny is a WINNER and his day will encourage other youth to always strive for more. When I here Ronny’s story, I think of Courage, Strength, Determination.
Don’t ruin his day because of your political beliefs. This isn’t about City Council.
Anon #4: I am no fan of Claudia Alvarez, but I have to take issue with your comment. If you knew anything about law degrees, you get one when you COMPLETE LAW SCHOOL. You take the Bar Exam AFTER receiving your law degree.
Bet you feel dumb now!

Please explain how affirmative action plays out in the boxing arena when two fighters face off?
The kid did great! Its a memorable accomplishment and it is ONE thing that is positive about Santa Ana, lately.
Congratulations Ronny!

Ronny turns 18 in Jan 2008! and for the rest of you out there who are HATERS and are hating on him i don’t recall seeying you in Houston he has done more in 3 years than all the boxer who went to Houston only the ones who were physically in Texas know what a joke of judges were there and for all those who are just typing to type show us your medal no wonder our teens end up in gangs and drugs talk about lowering there confidence. Ronny we are proud of you dont stop! keep going foward and you will get there.
Claudio,
I stand corrected. The sentence is incomplete. It should read.
Claudia Alvarez got a law degree and DDA without passing the California Bar exams.
I know Ronny worked really hard to get where he is at, I actually know him and well he is a normal kid and what he has done so far is great! It doesnt matter that he lost the only thing that matters is that he tried his best and didnt give up! He deserves this.
“It doesnt matter that he lost the only thing that matters is that he tried his best…”
This is the philosophy that continues to keep our Latino Community failing in school and therefore working in low paying jobs. When will we notice that our Asian brothers and sisters are kicking our buts because they are willing to sacrafice everything to win. We need to shake this “just give it a good shot” “have good self esteem” philosophy that continues to produce more losers than winners in our Latino Community.
dont make such a big deal about this you guys, just relax
the kid is 17 and is on his way to being a world class athlete. he is already good enough to be a national golden gloves champ.
how many of you can say that you had an national accomplishment in any arena at the age of 17?
just relax and let the kid have his day.
man, you all take everything so seriously.
I’m not into boxing but it looks like his gloves are too big for him. Don’t they come in children’s sizes? Maybe that’s why he is losing so much.
first he aint losing so much and second those are amateur level gloves
the pros depending on the promoter and the fighters can be 8 ounce gloves if they wanted them
I didn’t know Ronny’s dad is named Carlos? You gotta love a dad’s love:)Keep sticking up for your boy Carlos. It’s nice to see.
he isn’t my son, I am just an avid boxing fan. Been a fan of the fights all my life. I like following local talent in So Cal. This kid has potential.
you can call me Dad if you want though 🙂
I think since boxing is not working out for Ronny then he should try ultimate fighting. Those cage battles. The money is better there for the lower tier guys and it’s a lot of fun to see them beat the crap out of each other. With all the head gear you don’t get to see any really good knock outs in boxing. I wonder if Ronny has the guts to try it?
When it comes down to it what
RoNnY iS gReAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!1
well ronny is now an undefeated pro boxer. so let it be heard he’s my best friend and he’s accomplished more than alot of us have. Why dont we just acknowledge his accomplishments. I dont want to see any of you HAterS cheering for him when he’s a world champion.
