A friend of mine was visiting the Santa Ana Civic Center yesterday morning on business.
When he reached the Main Plaza he saw the Orange County Sheriff’s Department had rolled out a humongous RV towed in by a freightliner truck. “What the Hell is this thing?” he asked the uniformed deputy leaning against the hood of a new Chevy Suburban with blacked out windows.
“That’s Samantha One, our new command center, it’s keeping you safe,” he explained.
“How much did that thing cost?” he asked as he watched two guys polishing the glossy paint job, while a 50″ plasma screen played a loop of the Sheriff.
“Hold on,” the deputy answered his cell phone and proceeded to take a call from his wife/Girlfriend/significant other and proceeded to argue about their Mervyn’s bill.
You just can’t make this stuff up. That new truck could probably pay for a few Mervyn’s Stores…
The problem with all of this is that Carona can’t keep us safe – not when he is busy hanging out with Mafia goons. What a joke.
Wow. Nice ride. I hear that there is a lot of money for anti-terror activities. Is there a chance that Carona got some kind of grant or fed funding for that monster?
This is the reason why the Fed.’s don’t like to give the local police money for “Homeland Security”. There are hundreds of George Jaramillos working for Corona and wasting your tax dollars. Nice touch naming it “Samantha” for the little girl whose murder got Carona on Larry King. Shameless.
Hi Ho Silver
Looks like the boys hit the silver mine on this one. Typical–no accountability with the “orgranized gangsters.”
Zarkov
They are handing out homeland security money like its candy. Cops love shiny new toys to play with. How does a plasma screen keep me safe? What a joke.
Our fellow bloggers the Winship’s, who by the way are staunch conservatives, said, “We love Sheriff Mike”.
I just have to wonder if it is because of his moral fiber or his fiscal responsibility.
What a joke! If this guy was a Dem the righties would be up in arms. Just another day in the hypocritical world of the right wing.
“How does a plasma screen keep me safe?”
DUH!
When the Big Sheriff, the Little Sherriff and his possee drive far away in the shiny new bus after the fit hits the shan, they can watch CNN on the big screen plasma and know when its safe to come back and get more of your tax dollars.
Samantha One?
How despicable can you get?
He rode the death of innocent child to political highs and the slimy actions of himself and his cohorts to political lows.
He is still using this horrific tragedy to prop up his standing in the county. Has he no shame?
Should be called the “Little Sherriff I” because it’s the Little Sherriff that will be getting the most out of this purchase.
check out this ocregister story for where the money probably came from:

try to post a comment at the sheriff;s blog at: http://blog.ocsd.org/ and you will get a “comments are closed” message.
the ocsd has been suspended from LIEU, a law enforcement network that gathers intelligence on organized crime. read the story here: http://www.latimes.com/news/local/orange/la-me-ocsheriff17jul17,1,2175642.story?coll=la-editions-orange

— Blame it on the lawyers. Their opinion
dear 1:30 anonymous: what a “cop-out”, blaming the attorneys. ask bill hunt about his first amendment rights.
the purpose of a traditional blog is for the public to read and add comments for discussion.
this is more about censorship and attempting to control public opinion about the leaders in a scandal filled department.
this is just more evidence that the ocsd has very little tolerance for criticism leveled at it by the press. z.z., jr.
z.z.jr,
I agree. It’s a pathetic cop out.
Maybe Art could put up a spot dedicated to cop talk on his blog – just like he did for the school district.
Actually, not a good idea. Those folks have guns!
😉
I need a better photo or more information. Is this a bus conversion type RV…like it has a front end with a motor and steering wheel? Or is this a trailer that has to be towed or perhaps the trailer end of a semi that comes with a matching cab. What does it say on the big metal mudd flaps?
Does it have a bathroom? The real money will be putting in a pump out station at the indoor storage hanger where it will be housed. Also money for the legal defense of the security guard hired because hes someones relative when he gets caught taking “people of interest” into the coach for private interviewing, fingerprinting and mug shots of cuervo.
I do think someone should talk to Samantha Runions mother to see how she feels about the name. She might actually think its a good thing. Perhaps she gets to use the RV once a year at Yosemite or Jellystone where she has a non-profit with smokey. I hope.
Does it open up in the back so the battering ram, the bomb robot, the portable blood testing-booking station, K9 unit, bike license signup and dare vehicle can all be rolled up into it and still have room for all the christmas toy donation bins and the helicopter? Thats what Im talkin about.
Toilet chemical cakes with the department logo! Cool. Hardly Young
Prime exampe of boys in uniform and their macho toys. Paid for by homeland security (federal) dollars perhaps?
*We would only wonder is the Sheriff RV includes a 52 Plasma screen TV and a $9000 desk…just like the Supervisor’s get? Now that the Atlanta Falcons will have a third team back up quarterback running the offense ….visitors will need to see all those sacks!
Has anyone asked the Sheriff what
the RV is designed to do? Like
a Mobile Command Center in the event that County Buildings are
under attack or Regional Terror
Activities occur?
i would like to know if the vehicle is street legal? the state vehicle code contains length and width restictions, and the code also contains language that basically restricts oversized vehicle travel to freeways only.
is the ocsd above the law?
