Art,
I cancelled my Sunday subscription to the OC Register because they have created and allowed racist a forum to spew out there racist rehtoric without any accountability.
I would not be cancelling my subscriptions if the OC register only allowed posting on their website stories from people who did not hide in anonminity.
I believe that there is no fostering of ideas when people are allowed to post mean hurtful and insensitive messages without being accountable or “man enough” to put you name behind you speak.
I encourage anybody who hasn’t read some of those community comments at the Oc Register website to view this and see if this really fosters community awareness of ideas. Then cancel your subscription…
Joe Brown
Joe,
Newspapers are on the way out – it is just a matter of time. They are dinosaurs looking up at the fiery rocks headed their way.
I too am worried that this new blog will turn into a Minuteman-fest – but the writers say they won’t let that happen. We’ll see about that…
Quite frankly the Orange Juice! has been the most progressive pro-immigration blog in the O.C. – even though our own writers are not all on the same page re this issue.
Joe Brown –
I hope you followed up w/ a letter of complaint to the editor & publisher as to why you cancelled your subscription.
They need to be made aware of their customer’s concerns.
Joe,
I put up a comment on the new Register Immigration blog expressing my hope that it won’t turn into a Minuteman-fest. They either have not approved it or they deleted it.
There was nothing offensive about my post. And they know who I am.
Oh well. The concept is a good one, but their bloggers are all reporters. And reporters are cautious. You cannot be that restricted and hope to be a good blogger.
I like Dena Bunis. She is a very good reporter. Taxin tries hard but her articles re Santa Ana are usually pro-Ream and pro-Pulido. She appears to be afraid to upset the powers that be in Santa Ana. And I have no idea who Julie Gallego is.
I don’t know how you can run an immigration blog without more immigration experts on it. I would have liked to have seen an immigration rights attorney and maybe a retired border patrol agent on their blog roster. Why stick to reporters only?
Joe, seems to have his facts wrong – you have to give your name to make a posting and so far with no posts approved and showing I don’t know how he concludes its “racist retoric”.

You have your facts wrong! Mr. Brown cites the long running online comment forum that’s been in place for 6 or more months.
Where have you been?
I suggest you click on ocregister.com and take a peek.
No matter the story line, the comments always end up hateful, mean spirited and targeted at the Hispanic immigrant. And yes, they are racist.
You owe Joe Brown an apology. And kudos to Mr. Brown for cancelling his subscription. I did. More people should and perhaps the Register may take corrective measures to ensure they are not providing an easy avenue for such hatred and racist remarks.
The racist underbelly of Orange County is frightening.
