Thomas Gordon, our co-blogger, has told me today that he is going to be leaving our blog. The news took me by surprise, but Gordon feels very strongly that he wants to affect change in a different way. I wish him well.
Gordon has come into his own of late as a blogger and has contributed mightily to our success. I know that he will continue to work hard to bring about positive change in Santa Ana, where we both reside.
Gordon ran for Mayor of Santa Ana last year, and he has since been appointed to the EPIC (gang prevention) commission by Santa Ana Councilman Sal Tinajero. I do hope that Gordon will run for Mayor again next year.
Thank you Thomas! Vaya con Dios amigo.
I will miss Thomas Gordon’s posts.
Art, it would be interesting if you could get Santa Ana students who are interested in writing/editing/reporting to be allowed to guest blog here. City leaders have to come from somewhere. Encouraging bright students to have awareness of how things work and of some of the injustices of what has been allowed to occur in their city since they were infants would be a good move.
Best luck to Thomas in whatever plan of action he should choose to help Santa Ana. And, Art, quit encouraging Mr. Palacios to run for other positions unless you can find someone with his fortitude and dedication to replace him on the board of ed. He is the only bright spot who actually knows what is really going on. We need him.
Poster 1,
Good idea! We are indeed always looking for new bloggers.
The problem that Palacios faces on the SAUSD board is going down with the ship when Richardson and company get hauled off in chains. That would be a waste of his considerable talent.
We have a chance to beat Richardson, and Rosie Avila next year. But so far most of those I have spoken to are not interested.
If we cannot come up with viable candidates, my advice to John will be to run for City Council. He just cannot do much on a school board that is so lacking in talent and integrity.

This kind of prediction has been made before. Is there actually any hope that board members would go to jail? and for which of their deeds?

There was a list of like 17 people who were interested when Hernandez was chosen to fill in for Sal. NONE of them are interested? NONE have integrity? What about residents who share Michele’s vision for a better city with the best possible schools? Nothing?

You have got to be kidding. Schools and their reputation will make or break a city. Who will want to buy homes in Santa Ana if they have children? I can’t believe that you think there is absolutely no one who is community minded to want to change the make up of the board.
Any chance that Thomas G would do it? Again, the base of willing volunteers has to be expanded.
When the Strouds and Sean get tired of the current distractions, perhaps they can come up with some kind of viable list. Do NOT give up on the school board. The community deserves so much more than those dolts mismanaging the district.
Poster 3,
I am not saying that no one will end up running. But right now I am not hearing it from anyone except Cecilia Aguinaga.
I put my hat in for the Tinajero seat, but honestly I think I am more valuable as a blogger than as a school board member.
What about all the former council members who are now retired? I wonder if any of them would consider running? I think Pat McGuigan would be a good candidate.
There are many current city commissioners that would be good candidates, including leaders like Tish Leon, Nelida Yanez, Deborah Vasquez and Lynette Verino. I would back any of them for the SAUSD board.
Art:
“I think I am more valuable as a blogger than as a school board member.”
I don’t see the two as mutually exclusive. Perhaps someone who in touch with so many honest, sometime to a brutal fault, people you would serve well with both hats.
Just a thought.
Richard Rios

Thomas’ leaving is a shame. He did his homework and added real heft.
