Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido apparently did not end up “winging it” at his annual “State of the City” speech yesterday, at the Bowers Museum. I am told he used notes, but that he sounded like an “11th grader.”
Amazingly, he did talk a little bit about the gang problem in the city – but he did so by talking about the EPIC (Early Prevention and Intervention) Commission. Which of course was not his idea. While his supporters have ripped Councilwoman Michele Martinez for coming up with EPIC, it would appear that Pulido is quite proud of it.
As the Register reported, Pulido did talk a lot about “a plan to pump another $100 million into local street repairs over the next five years.”
He also, “urged businesses
“they calculate your pension based on the last year of your salary”
It’s actually based on the highest year, not the last. And if Dave Ream will sign and make public a letter that he’s gone July 1, I am sure this blog will support said pay raise.I know I will.
Ream won’t leave until 2009 when the enhanced retirement benefit takes effect. It will be nice to see the old man go. He’s been a stuffed shirt for the past 10 years. Expect to see a lot of city employees leave too as all the useless old timers pack up and leave a complete mess in their wake. Whether or not Standiford is given the top spot remains to be seen. Does she have the ability or the will to do battle with the unions to right a sinking ship? Would it be more beneficial to have a latino city manager, not another gabacho with no ties to the community?
I love you, you llove me, we’re a happy family ….
The pajaritos haven’t been very accurate lately.
Ream will leave when he’s good and ready, and not before.
What do we think about Michelle Martinez cozying up to the developers and dining around town with the cell company consultants?
I didn’t realize Pulido had Limited English Proficiency. Maybe he should take advice from Solorio’s pot holders and learn English. Bett yet, Pulido should join the Santa Ana Chamber’s program to English.
It’s about time developers and others realize Michele’s vote is important. She should be available to hear all sides of any issue/item. Looks like Michele is is going to be OK.
Is there any speech Mayor Pulido could give that you would like? Someone must feel otherwise about his State of the City addresses because he sells them out each year and this year was no exception! I wouldn’t expect him to target his address to bloggers who don’t like him already.
Whar a great message Pulido would send to Santa Ana’s spanish speaking community by taking english classes. Is this why Mayor Pulido avoided public appearances?
Pulido did not give a boring speech. Your sources told you wrong. He was actually way better than the last time I saw him. What I thought was over the top was the Chamber’s shameless constantly patting themselves on the back. They showed a video that literally made it seem that the Chamber has done everything for our City. There was about a good five minute portion of the video of person after person thanking the Chamber. It was too much
#9. You’re right. It seemed to be more of a “State of the Chamber” event.
The only reason Mayor Chilango wants to help the core of Santa Ana is because even he realizes his popularity is down. He won’t blame himself for the CONDITION OF THE CITY, so he has to blame Dave Pelon Ream. You bet a deal was cut to increase Peoln’s salary so he can leave early. Too bad the heir apparent is Catherine “Let Me #&**-up you City” Standidford. Way to go Pelon. You don’t live here, so why would you care?
Why doesn’t Mayor Chilango hire Metzler as the new City Manager? I bet he can do a better job.
Mike Metzler for Santa Ana City Manager. I Love It!!
Rather than stand alone and feel like losers, the council minority voted along with majority. Stand up already! If you think your administrators are making too much money and not serving the citizens well, SAY IT! We as citizens will demand better than wasteful, fat paycheck loving administrators.
Say it with your vote(s), it is better to lose with dignity than weakly go along with actions you know to be wrong.
Standiford has been poison wherever she’s stolen her paycheck from, and will continue to feed poison apples to Santa Ana. She has the gift to make a tax look like someone else’s idea, but is the one stirring this cauldron.
“I am told…”
“I understand…”
“Apparently…”
“It seems…”
Geez, Art. Are there any weasel words you DIDN’T use?
