What do you get when you have three guys stabbing another fellow at 2:30 a.m, in Santa Ana? According to the O.C. Register you have a fight that is “possibly gang-related.” You think? The Register posted this in a brief news item today, so I am assuming it happened early this morning. There is of course still no word from our Mayor, Miguel Pulido, or from our Chief of Police, Paul Walters. Nor do I expect to hear from either of them…
My co-blogger Sean Mill reported this week that the Bowers Museum hired Inez S. Wolins to serve as their vice president of development and marketing. But he didn’t tell you the entire story. According to the O.C. Register, Wolins “was asked to resign from the Harn Museum in 2000 when university officials discovered she did not have a doctorate from New York University as listed on her resume, according to published reports. She was fired from the C.M. Russell Museum in March 2004, according to several reports.”
That must sound familiar to the folks at the Register – as they just un-hired their new publisher, Marti Buscaglia, after it turned out that she too “lied about her college diploma on her resume,” according to the L.A. Times. Maybe the Bowers will take her?
Now that the Bowers has hired Wolins, perhaps they can give the City of Santa Ana back the $2 million they were just granted? After all, isn’t it Wolins’ job to raise money? She does not appear to be any good at it, but that’s not our problem. I’m sure the Bowers hired her for a reason. Maybe she caught Dr. Keller’s eye?
Here we go again…the O.C. Register is reporting that the “City Council on Monday will consider raising 14 executive managers’ salaries to mirror pay hikes awarded to union employees.” Say it ain’t so! Take a look at this link to see how much these managers are already raking in…each one makes more than $100,000!
The City Council’s Public Safety Committee (Claudia Alvarez, David Benavides and Sal Tinajero) also met this week to figure out how to raise our taxes in order to hire new cops. Here’s a thought – take away that $2 million you just forked over to the Bowers. Or even better – outsource our police department to the O.C. Sheriff’s Department.

Play Ball! If you’re not doing anything this Sunday, Councilwoman Michele Martinez urges you to come and cheer the 12 teams that will be participating in the Pio Pico Softball Fundraiser at Memorial Park.
The first game will start at 9am. and continue every hour until the final championship game that is expected to start at 4pm.
They will have a snack bar opening up at 9am, and a BBQ scheduled to start at 11 am. They will have delicious BBQ including burgers and hot dogs, from “Chef Mike Martinez.” They will also have Nachos on the menu and 7-Elven authentic Slurpee’s. All money raised from the food will go directly to the Pio Pico Elementary summer camp program.
The Santa Ana Park Naturalist Program is kicking off its First Friday Night Fire Series at the Santiago Park Nature Reserve. On the first Friday of every month through September, you are invited to experience a magical evening of campfires, live music, stories, and natural/cultural history presentations at the Nature Reserve Nursery.. Tomorrow (Friday) will feature canyon lore and folk songs inspired by the Santiago Creek Watershed.

HOW CAN WE POSSIBLY HAVE THE SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT PATROL SA WHEN THEY DONT EVEN HAVE ENOUGH OFFICERS. Maybe if the gangs would obey the law and there parents would BE parents, we would not need as many officers. I too am a long term SA resident and mexican, so no im not bias just realistic.
Don’t forget that the city of Santa ana has a ribbon cutting and grand reopening for the new and improved El Salvador Center on Saturday morning, June 30 at 10:00.
In a time where all the school kids are now on traditional schedule, the need for recreation opportunities is at its highest.
Go see what the city is doing in terms of adding a newly refurbished recreational center and programming in a dense area with many children.
This is one of the many positive steps the city is making to address gang diversion, active living for children, and education opportunities while the children are not in school.

Is El Salvador Park still the “headquarters” of the F-Troop gang? Is that gang still around anymore? You don’t hear too much about them if they are. I remember the days when lots of people were afraid of F-Troop and they really hads some power among S.A. Gangs. I guess like everything else, gangs come and go. To those who live in Santa Ana and have some information on current gangs, which gangs are the top 5 in terms of power/influence in S.A. today? I wonder how many Gang members or taggers read O.J.? It would be interesting to have a guest posting from a current gang member to get their views on the city.

F-Troop is still here people…though they are mostly in the jail system….there are still younger divisions of the gang in and around santa ana…and yes they stil have the keys ….

Gangs will get you places for sure. Like prison, a criminal record, drug conviction, homelessness, a kidney loss, missing teeth, heroin addiction, 3 babys mommas (child support debt), family problems, a ho daughter. All this good stuff when you graduate and you’re officially an OG.
