Surely it is a sign of the Apocalypse – I actually agree with Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle on the choice of former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani for U.S. President. The Flash Report has a post today written by Pringle, in support of Giuliani. Here are a few highlights:
- He is an optimistic, pragmatic leader and that is exactly what America needs right now.
- When Rudy Giuliani promises something, it’s not just talk. He knows how to deliver because he’s done it before as the successful Mayor of America’s largest city.
- In 1994, Mayor Giuliani took office against the backdrop of a crime rate that was at near record highs, welfare rolls swelling to 1.1 million or one in 7 New Yorkers, and a culture of liberalism that stretched standards of decency to the breaking point. Mayor Giuliani took immediate action to crack down on those community-impacting crimes, move people from welfare to work, cut taxes, and rein in out-of-control spending.
- We need to keep taxes low and get spending under control. Mayor Giuliani’s record in this regard is clear. From day one, he challenged the liberal orthodoxy in New York and cut taxes time after time after time.
That last point is inadvertently funny – the biggest spenders in Congress over the last seven years have been the Republicans!
I do have some reservations about Giuliani, when it comes to free speech, gun rights, and taking care of the homeless. However, I will NEVER support Hillary the Clintonista, Obama is too liberal, and the rest of the Reeps are either not ready for prime time, or simply not candidates who could win. I hope Giuliani can get past the Schroeder machine (which is backing Romney) to win the California primary…
Before he will EVER get a chance to be president, he will need to renounce his anti-civil liberties past. The last thing we need is another “Republican” who thinks the Constitution is an inconvenience.
His offenses are pretty severe – seizing private automobiles when their owners were involved in very minor offenses, complete disregard for the 2nd Amendment, stifling of free speech, stop and frisk tactics by the police, etc. This disregard for New Yorkers basic civil liberties is very troubling and indicative of a Rudy Knows Best paternalism that is more dictator than elected representative. Sound familiar?
Don’t forget that Rudy was on the ropes before 9/11.
Careful Art – you may become part of that “machine” you are always whining about!
Rudy with all his warts…
is a joy! Face facts….
Fred Flake….or whatever,
bailed out of the Senate
without explanation except
for some undisclosed reasons. Rudy has style,
Rudy has intelligence and
Rudy can beat the daylights
out of the “Ice Princess”.
No one else can do that….
It will divide the State of
New York….and the lady
longshoreman…could lose
New York completely. Fred
can’t even run for VP….
The truth of matter is that
before “Machaca”…George
Allen would have been the
very best choice for VP…
now….How about Dan Quayle
or Joe Scarborough?
Rob,
You said it all!
I totally agree with you.
Let’s hope the R’s can either make him tow the line. or find someone viable who will.
I still think Condy is the best thing since beer, but she seemingly will not take the job. Shows how smart she really is.
Rudy will be a great president. ‘Nuff said.
Ryan,
You’re showing your true colors. If you were truly a conservative, you would be appalled by Rudy’s anti-civil liberties past and very, very cautious of his candidacy.
Seriously – no soundbite here. Why do you think he would be a “great president”? Because he can get elected?
Rudy will never get thru South Carolina, or any other state in the south. If you like Arnold you will love his baby killing, tax increasing, gun grabbing, pro-homosexual twin, Rudy.
Rob, I’m a moderate.
I’m very conservative on some issues, but others I’m a little more moderate on.
Rudy is more of a candidate I can get behind than Romney or McCain.
Ryan,
Thanks for the clarification. I had assumed that your description in the blog heading meant you were coming more from the conservative “right” viewpoint.
Rob, I’m confused at what you meant by a blog heading.
I didn’t write this post. Art did.
Ryan,
Sorry for the confusion – I meant your “description” in the list of contributors to this blog (Orange Juice!). I was responding to your comment. I’m relatively new to this blogging business…
