UK Prime Minister Tony Blair will address his government and announce the pull out of 7,000 troops from the Iraq war tomorrow. 1,500 who were to be rotated out will not be replaced.
What impact do you feel this will have on our president’s request for additional troops for the current campaign?
You’ve misread the news – Bush is sending more troops to Iraq and will request money to support all our troops which few will oppose.
What might cut the increase short is that placing troops at outposts 24/7 all over Baghdad will leave them more exposed to attack and probably increase casualties.
Your post makes it sound like all 7,000 are leaving tomorrow. Actually, 1,500 will be returning home in several weeks. By the end of the year, they anticipate 3,000 Brits will have left Iraq. That will still leave about 4,000 in theater.
Sounds like a sensible, phased redeployment. Kinda like we should do.

Perhaps you didn’t read my headline. I did not say that the British troops would all be pulled out by tomorrow.
They have been engaged in the Basra area which may not have the same level of insurgent fighting as those faced by US forces in the higher density areas surrounding and including Baghdad.
Id love to see Bushs face when he heard this news!!
Larry,
I did read your headline. And I still maintain it’s incorrect. They aren’t pulling out all troops by the end of the year.
Wow. Blair sacrificed his career because of this war. What a shame. I am sure the Dems will seize on this as an illustration of what we ought to be doing.
I think it is time to send the Terminator robots in…
