Westminster City Councilman Kermit Marsh dropped out of the race for the 1st Supervisorial District today – and he endorsed Santa Ana Councilman Carlos Bustamante in the process, according to Red County/OC Blog.
Another Republican candidate, Lupe Moreno, also dropped out recently and endorsed Bustamante as well. And Red County/OC Blog writer Mark Leyes, who used to serve on the Garden Grove City Council, also endorsed Bustamante this week.
Does any of this mean that Bustamante is pulling away from the other Republican candidates? No. It just means that some of the candidates are reading the tea leaves and jumping ship before the Umberg tsunami runs them over.
Ryan Williams has been walking precincts in north Santa Ana for his preferred candidate, Garden Grove City Councilwoman Janet Nguyen. He tells me that voters are mentioning Nguyen and former Santa Ana Councilman Brett Franklin – but no mention of Bustamante. Williams also recently called 150 high-propensity GOP voters in Santa Ana, and only one noted that he was supporting Bustamante.
Franklin has also been walking precincts in north Santa Ana, and he too has found zero support for Bustamante. In fact many residents think that Franklin is still their council representative.
Bustamante has only been on the Santa Ana City Council for two years – before that he had zero visibility in the community. He likewise became a Republican when he ran for the Council – and he has zero credibility as a Republican. He has been a vocal supporter of Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido’s Democrat puppet candidates in the last year.
I do believe that Marsh is trying to do the right thing by pulling out and backing Bustamante. However, I don’t think this will do much for Bustamante. Nor will this put him over the top against Umberg.
I do anticipate that Bustamante and his backers are going to try to get him endorsed by the OC GOP Central Committee at their meeting this Monday night. I hope they fail. I have been saying this for some time – Janet Nguyen is the only remaining Republican woman in the race. There are simply too many men in this race. She has a great chance to prevail over the other Republicans. Can she defeat Umberg? Maybe – but that depends on whether or not anyone is going to start sending out mail hit pieces on him anytime soon.
Marsh apparently sent out a press release, which was published at Red County/OC Blog. In it he said that, “Carlos will not

I got one of those computor calls from Chief Walters asking for a Bustamante vote. If the police want him, then he must be good for the office, right?
Sr. Pedroza,
Can you please get us more information on the rally Benny Diaz has planned for this week in downtown Santa Ana? Also, how can those who want to help walk for Benny get in touch with his campaign? I’m hearing that some former Marsh supporters are switching to Diaz because of his knowledge of Westminster and G.G. issues.
Poster 3,
I will ask Benny about that. If I can get the information I will certainly post it. Thanks for the heads up!

Better question regarding the Walters robo-call. Technically, Bustamante is Walters’ supervisor. Why is a city-paid employee Walters hustling for his employer? After all, Bustmante is part of a seven member committee that reviews Walters contract.
Moral conflict???
Great Photo! Am I the only one that thinks Kermit looks like he is about to break into a medley of Show tunes?
Yea! Perhaps the score to the Pirates of Penzance.
Janet Nguyen will be lucky to get 10 people to come to her fund raiser.
Any of you guys going to put your money where your mouth is and donate to Janet or are you just praising her to undermine Bustamante.
Just like she wasn’t able to raise any money too!
Funny. I’d say the same thing about Trung.
Trung is having trouble raising money he only has a couple of people thats why they are doing mailers through Viet Pac which is owned by Chad Morgan and Brian Parks… Any insider knows that they are all working to make sure Janet doesn’t win at all costs. Its also the same people that wanted Kermit to run to steal votes from her in Westminster.
I think Janet will have a great fundraising event. She has a lot more support than any of the Trannies realize.
What about Trung? He seems to be dying on the vine. I hear a couple of very important Buddhist priests endorsed Janet over the last few weeks. Poor Trung must be tearing his hear out.
Well, it is not too late for Trung to do the right thing – pull out and endorse Janet and all is forgiven Trung!
Yeah I also heard the Buddhist guy on the radio. Then they forced the same guy to do a message on Trung and drove up to San Bernadino. Talk about desperation.
“Any of you guys going to put your money where your mouth is and donate to Janet or are you just praising her to undermine Bustamante.”
I’d like to think both. I’m very confident that Janet will be successful.
I for one am sorry Kermit dropped out. He reminds me of a young Charles Nelson Riley.

Too bad Marsh dropped out. I am sure everyone was hoping if he won Phil Anthony would be his COS. Then we could take bets how long it would be until Anthony got indicted.
