I was honored to attend Supervisor John Moorlach’s taking his oath of office administered by Supervisor Norby earlier today in front of a standing room only crowd in the county Hall of Administration Chambers. Brett Barbre, John’s Public Information Officer at the Treasurer’s office, was in the overflow room with our new Treasurer Chris Street standing on the edge of the chamber. In addition to seeing his family, former staff and supporters, were elected officials from around the county.
Chairman Bill Campbell was being kind to John in permitting him to exceed the traditional three minute time limit for public speakers in these hallowed chambers.
In addition to playing to the crowd John was very serious about his commitment to addressing the challenges of his new post, especially in terms of the county’s pension obligation to every county employee.
As I was leaving I did see former Orange Juice blogger Tim Whitaker and briefly met his son.
While we hear city council people claim to have working relationships with our Board of Supervisors I was disappointed to not find another Mission Viejo resident,no member of the Mission Viejo City Council or City Staff in attendance to show our city’s support and best wishes to both John and Supervisor-elect Pat Bates who was also in attendance.
Four out of the five current Supervisors were in attendance. We next need to await the election of the replacement of First District Supervisor Lou Correa. Who said the election season was over?
PS: And we wonder why our city, with 100,000 residents, does not have a direct Mission Viejo council person representative on the OCTA.
If memory serves me, Tim home schools his son.

“Name Dropper?” Unless I am mistaken, and they used a cardboard cut-out, you surely can’t miss seeing Supervisor Moorlach in the photo found in today’s Register as he took his oath of office.
As there were perhaps one hundred others in attendance perhaps you prefer my naming all of them. Referring to Brett and Chris was solely to indicate the overflow crowd where they didn’t have seats in the immediate chamber area.
Find something of value to add to my posts or simply go away.
Trust me. You will not be missed.
I was just reminded that Justin McCusker, candidate for the recent Mission Viejo city ocuncil, was in attendance. Justin works in the O.C. Hall of Administration.
I did chat with him briefly prior to the event. My oversight.

Help me out here.
Is there a requirement that to serve on the Santa Ana school board you must have a college degree?
As to home schoolers. My daughter, who was a special-ed teacher, home school’s one of our grandchildren. I would argue that home schooled children, where you have a one-on-one advantage over a traditional class of 25, generally score much higher than public or private schools in their required testing. Whether or not Tim’s son attends a traditional school has no impact on Tim’s knowledge of school related policy issues.
If Tim decides to throw his hat into the arena than the Santa Ana voters will have every opportunity to question his qualifications, understanding of current problems, if they exist, and his plan to address same.
