Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido pulled his strings tonight, at the Santa Ana City Council meeting, and sure enough, his puppet, councilman David Benavides, voted against mayoral term limits – even though he promised to support term limits during his campaign.
Benavides said the timing wasn’t right at the moment to pursue the term limits. Really? Apparently the timing was OK for Benavides to vote for a much-contested expansion of Kelly’s Auto Body – a project opposed by many of the neighbors in the south Main St. area.
Ironically Benavides abstained from voting on this issue when he was on the Planning Commission. Why is he able to vote on it now? Could it be because the Mayor told him to?
I have been ripped by many of our readers for saying that Benavides is a Pulido puppet. Well, after tonight’s city council meeting, he sure looks like he is.
The Kelly’s deal was approved by the way, as new councilman Sal Tinajero abstained, and new council member Michele Martinez voted in the affirmative. The Pulido faction – which includes Benavides and Mayor Pro Tem Carlos Bustamante – all voted for the Kelly’s expansion as well.
The mayoral term limits amendment change failed by a vote of 3-3. Benavides was the swing vote. The only swinging he was doing however was at the end of the strings Pulido has attached to him.
The argument about Mayoral terms was to place this item on the next election which would be in 2years. I believe the argument about this decision being too soon relative to putting other items on the same ballot is smoke. The ad-hoc committee this was discussed and approved at was not concerned , because they understood the minimum 2 year period. The differance seems that the position of Benavidez when on the Ad-Hoc committeee was campaign noise and now is a action of loyalty.
Paul,
Thanks, I could remember it was someone beating someone. Old age or radiation has finally hit home… laughing. Keep reminding me so I will remember. SMILE
Stan, yes I was politely referring to you. A government that is silent is one that has complete control over the citizens. In the Federalist papers, #10 I believe is where the basis for our voting system is founded (anyone can correct me), assuring no one group can have ultimate power for to long by making it a point to be an adversarial government.
I know where you lived and understand your sarcasm, not everyone does, but it is fun to listen when you are teasing. By the way I would love to have you and your lovely wife over for dinner sometime. When things slow down a little.
Okay I have 45 minutes of video from the Wall Mart Christmas Gift Away to get in from the camera and on http://www.SantaAnaInsight.com.

George,
As you recall from my forum presentations, I believe that proper realm of City Government is only: To protect person, To protect property and Stay out of peoples business.
I believe in true freedoms including ability to own my body and do with it as I pleas. That cannot be accomplish by democratic process because voters largely consist of religious fanatics and purely educated and misinformed idiots.
I believe in individualism and self governance which the democracy and adversarial government does not provide for.
To implement the above points is only my reason I would like to be in charge of the Santa Ana.
Ironically, notwithstanding his misguided socialistic prudence and pragmatism Pulido is as close as possible to my believes so I will support him and will challenge him in 2008.
What is cooking for the diner?
Is it gone be a fund raiser? (sarcasm)

Stanley,
Do you ever read what you write before you post it? You wrote, “I believe that proper realm of City Government is only: To protect person, To protect property and Stay out of peoples business.”
If you truly believe that, then how can you support Pulido?
He has failed us in every instance. Our police department is grossly understaffed. Crime is rampant in our city. Graffiti is spreading like a pandemic virus. Even the playground equipment at Park Santiago has been tagged! How can you say he protects people?
Pulido engineered not one but two eminent domain deals – each made rich car dealers richer. How can you say that he protects property?
Whether or not Pulido stays out of people’s businesses I cannot say – he certainly did scuttle a development project at Cabrillo and First – because it wasn’t tall enough for his taste!
Please Stanley – stop kissing up to Pulido! It is intellectually dishonest to say the least. You should have voted for Thomas!
Art stated: “If you truly believe that, then how can you support Pulido?”
Do you ever read what I write before you post reply?
Do you understand my statement: “..notwithstanding his misguided socialistic prudence and pragmatism…”?
I have major experience with SAPD believe me!
The SAPD is simply concentrating on enforcement of victim less crimes like prostitution and use of drugs instead to provide Red light District and control such activities. Even you have ridiculed me when I stated that Chief Walters was freebasing cocaine and was distributing it to children so he can destroy their life with criminal records. Pulido has noting to do with that and you will not find lesser lunatic police chive than Walters and no one can dismantle police unions which are the root of the problem.

To bulldoze down blight property may protect my property value and reduce a crime.

I have attacked Pulido in past in major way, publicly in front of the council and he stay cool.
In contrast I have criticized Thomas and he threaten with the lawsuit and fraudulently sent two homicide SAPD detectives into my home.
Art stated: “Please Stanley – stop kissing up to Pulido! It is intellectually dishonest to say the least. You should have voted for Thomas!”
Pulido earned my respect because he is cool, macho and statesman like — unfortunately I can’t say same about Thomas.
I should add that Pulido is only council member who knows how to use microphone, so as hearing impaired I can understand his every word.
“Pulido earned my respect because he is cool, macho and statesman like”
Enough of your love for Pulido.
Get back to work getting rich so you can beat Pulido in 2008, unless he has you arrested again.
Now back to Benavides the puppet who lied to the voters about term limits.
Benavides took cash from a developer after voting to approve his project and lied to the voter about it.
Benavides claimed to be for term limits and then voted against them.
Liar-Thief-Crook.
How long till he cheats on his wife?
“How long till he cheats on his wife?”
When I attacked you character via your brother you didn’t liked it and that was done overtly.
Unless you are the poster here, why are you publish crapola from an anonymous poster?
-Stan
Stan,
That was not me. I don’t post anon. It appears to be a rhetorical question. I agree that it is a rude thing to ask. Really, from what I hear, it should be asked of the Mayor Pro Tem instead.
Art, you surprise me every day when you bent your rules!
How long till your wife cheats on you?
-Stan
Stan,
Not likely. This is our 20th year of marriage. Now, if I don’t get a good anniversary present, I might be in some trouble…
