Does the display of the Christian Examiner at a church violate the seperation of Church and Stae? Especially when it has reccomendations on ballot issues?

What a joke. Other than 1B and 1D, this is identical to the California Republican Party’s recommendations.
Andrew Davey’s Picks:
1A- Yes
1B- Yes
1C- Yes
1D- Yes
1E- Yes
83- Undecided (I don’t like child predators, but neither do I like dumping all of them in the Central Valley… this one’s a toughie)
84- Yes
85- No
86- Yes
87- Yes
88- No
89- Yes
90- No (It’s just a taxpayer trap!)
Now as for the Christian Examiner, does this type of “issue advocacy” violate church-state separation?
Is there a lawyer in the house to answer this?
After reviewing this list of “recommendations” I would switch churches.
Beware: Republicans at work!
Jim
Andrew and Paul,
No it does not violate any separation of church/state laws. Non-profits, including churches, have the option of informing people on which way to vote on a proposition. It technincally falls under “issue education.”
What they cannot do is put the Christian Examiner in the church if it actually ENDORSES candidates. Propositions are fine, candidates are not.
Thanks, “The Facts”!
I thought they’d be OK with props, but it still sounded fishy to me.
Okay, so the “Examiner” is legal…
But I still think it’s cheesy that it rips all its endorsements from the OC GOP and Ahhnuld…
So I guess this “Christian Examiner” doesn’t care to be a source for “Christian news and events” for moderate and progressive people of faith.
I know this is dealing with the propositions, but I thought it might be a good place to throw in a comment on my pick for Governor. I had a chance to go to an event at the Sant Anita race track with Art Olivier last night. All I can say is that he is truly a fresh voice and I will be proud casting my vote for Art Olivier for Governor.
