Here’s a thought. Why don’t you place the Top news of of the day feature in its own special category like SAUSD? This feature takes too much space and it does not generate much blogging activity.

We have had a lot of internal discussions about our news links. Some of our bloggers don’t like this feature. Here is why I value our news links:
1. On a slow news day, the news links might be the only post we write.
2. Some folks complain that we spend too much time covering Santa Ana. The news links allow us to cover the entire county.
3. I have heard from some readers that they don’t want to go elsewhere for their news links. There is only one other blog in the county that offers daily news links, and that blog appeals more to a GOP audience; our readership is mixed and so we try not to appeal too much to either Democrats or Republicans.
4. News links are a great way to get a conversation started on specfic breaking news stories.
We have tried to limit this feature, but I generally go overboard on Sundays…which are very slow days for us. We average about 500 readers during the week, per day, but half of that on the weekend.

Just wanted to let you know I like the daily news links as they are and I find them useful.
