Beware of the OC-NAACP. That crowd is chock-a-block full of Mijares supporters. There are people in the leadership of the OC-NAACP who have been double-dipping with SAUSD funds (collecting their retirement monies and still working for SAUSD). One fellow, particularly, was a former principal of the MIddle College and a big fan of Nogi and he has been double dipping for years. Albeit, the number of Afican-Americans in Orange County has plummeted over the last 25 years due to racist housing practices in the county but those who remain and are hooked up with the leadership of the OC-NAACP are not the self described moral conscience of the county but merely selfish opportunists.
Art,
Thank you for getting the word out about both the OC NAACP and Com-Link’s upcoming Candidate’s Forums.
I also want to address “Anonymous” post.
Anonymous- Your post clearly shows you have absolutely NO KNOWLEGE of the NAACP, what the organization stands for nor what the Orange County Branch of the NAACP stands for.
The NAACP is the nation’s oldest civil rights organization, founded in 1919. Some famous members of The NAACP include Dr. DuBois,Roy Wilkens,Thurgood Marshalll(who was lead legal council in the “Mendez vs. Garden Grove” case prior to his appointment to the US Supreme Court),Rosa Parks, Medgar and Merlene Evers, Julian Bond, Rev. Jessie Jackson etc.
To get back to the Orange County branch we are totally non-partisan. I am a proud Life Member of the NAACP and have been affiliated and involved with this branch for the past ten years. In our branch leadership there is NO ONE who is either currently working nor retired from SAUSD. Mijares has never been involved with our branch in fact he is no longer a part of SAUSD.
The only thing to beware of is closet bigots like YOU.
I have lived in Orange County for twenty years, there were racist housing practices here most especially prior to the 1980’s but I will say the color of OC housing is green. The African-American population of Orange County has been between 1.9% to 1.5% for the past forty years . The REAL facts speak for themselves, too bad for you, you might have thought you could do a slam job on the NAACP and get away with it. I am so glad to catch this type of nonsense. It is easy to slam and be “Anonymous” but you know who or WHAT you are and I’ve called you on it.
In addition we are not the “self described moral conscience of the county” as we are not a church based group. We are here to defend the civil rights of all minorty groups. I also want to add a disclaimer: I am not acting as a spokesperson for the NAACP or the OC-NAACP I am acting as a private citizen who happens to be a member of the OC-NAACP who disagreed with the post sent by”Anonymous on 9/o4/06
Brava, Andree!
Gila,
Thank You!
It appears you brothers/sisters have taken a page from the anti-defamation League. Bad mouth Israel and you are an anti-Semite. Bad mouth the OC-NAACP and you get all huffy and start using words like bigot and racist. My earlier comments had nothing to do with race but they had everything to do with phony upper middle-class and lower upper-class opportunist who have appropriated the struggle and sacrifice of working class people as their own, but never lifting a hand of support when the going got rough, in order to cash in politically on the race mind-set of America……….in other words you are nothing more than a bunch of big “D” Democrats cashing in on eastern liberal race appeasement politics . I will bet you have never read a word of W.E.B DuBois (like the The Souls of Black Folks or “the Color od Democracy”) or for that matter the great sociologist W. Franklin Frazier who wrote the unappreciated study “BLACK BOURGEOIS.” One last point: Dr. DeBois, who you make reference to as a great man of the civil rights movement, left the NAACP, the organization he founded, in 1933 because the NAACP turned into the very kind of group you so clearly represent in Orange County….self absorbed and opportunistic. As for Andree, when was the last time I saw the NAACP-OC standing up for the rights of latino immigrants? Where were you when the latino community tried to stand up an take control of its future only to be shot down by the likes of Ron Unz? To put it succinctly, you are full of self-righteous and phony crap!
