I just received Lou Correa’s latest Supervisor email news release. He seems to have taken quite an interest in education – I wonder if that has anything to do with Lynn Daucher’s background in education and popularity with teachers? Here is his release:
Make a Choice to Make a Difference
Since 1998, more than 700 County and Superior Court employees have participated in the Pio Pico Elementary School Mentoring Program, serving as academic mentors for an estimated 1,000 students who were working below grade level. The impact of our employee involvement has been phenomenal! On average, the students have improved their reading abilities by 1.5 levels and many have advanced by 2 to 3 grade levels. You can be part of this successful partnership! Mentors are asked to volunteer one hour per week (45-minute mentor session with 15-minutes travel time) for a minimum of 4 months. Most employees fit the mentoring session into their lunch hour. Mentoring sessions are available Monday through Friday during the following timeframes:
8:30
A lot of people are worried that Lou Correa supported the 37 story building next to OCHSA, El Sol and OCEAA without resolving the student safety issues.
I don’t know who these “lot of people” are. But I was one of the most vocal opponents of One Broadway Plaza, and I still feel it is being built inthe wrong place, but I PROUDLY support Lou Correa and Jose Solorio and I feel they will do more for education than Lynn Daucher ever will. I may have disagreed with them on that one issue, but I know when push comes to shove in the legislature, they will be on the side of the students while Lynn will be on the side of the special interests.
In the Assembly, Lou fought extreme increases of student fees for community colleges. He fought for education funding. He fought for the students of his district EVERYTIME!
Maybe so Claudio – but I really think that everyone who opposed OBP should vote against its supporters – from local candidates to legislative candidates. Don’t reward these guys for their bad decisions! We should not be so fast to forgive those who sold out to Mike Harrah.
This mentoring program is a good idea. Supv. Correa should consider expanding this program and outreach to Santa Ana’s largest employers asking them to adopt a mentor school closest to their office.
Lou isn’t alone regarding safety issues and One Broadway Plaza. OCHSA administrators have made it easy and convenient for Harrah to duck this issue.
OCHSA could be a better Santa Ana neighbor.
