A few weeks ago we invited Quang X. Pham to join our blog team – and he did so spendidly. However, not much later he began to write for our friends over at the OC Blog as well. My blog team had a problem with that.
We are trying to do something different here at the Orange Juice. OC Blog does what it does, and does it well, but their posters are, for the most part, GOP insiders, and they are anonymous. Our posters, by comparison, are Democrats, Republicans and Independents – and I don’t allow anyone on my team to use pseudonyms. Moreover, while some of us are quite experienced in politics, none of us are part of any political “machine.” Most of us are in fact political rebels.
I asked Pham to decide which blog he wanted to be a part of, and he said he wanted to post to both blogs. That didn’t work for our blog team. And so Pham is no longer part of our team.
We wish Pham well in his future endeavors. On a personal level I hope he learns eventually that you cannot serve two masters, as the saying goes. As my co-blogger Claudio Gallegos pointed out yesterday, our site is doing quite well – yesterday we had over 500 visits to our site, and we are averaging over 400 visits per day, since our inception. That’s not bad! If it is not enough of a platform for Pham, well I can only hope that he will find more visibility elsewhere. It just won’t be happening here.
While we are on the subject of platforms, I just received the following press release regarding Pham (who apparently doesn’t need the blogosphere after all):

VIETNAM & IRAQ
Legends and Lessons
As public support for the war in Iraq wanes, comparisons with Vietnam have increased. Parallels have been drawn between the entry, execution and exit phases of both conflicts. Why did Vietnamization fail? What lessons did our government adopt and which did they ignore? What did our former allies, the South Vietnamese, have to say about America
On a personal level I hope he learns eventually that you cannot serve two masters, as the saying goes.
You’re kidding, right? “Two masters”? Don’t you think you’re taking this “rage against the machine” schtick a little too far? For the record, I never asked Quang to choose one blog over the other. As far as I was concerned, he was welcome to post on both. His opinions are his opinions, regardless of where he posts them. I have no interest in forcing him to be for or against your mythical machine.
But it’s your blog, and if you guys want to poke out one of your eyes because that eye “offends thee” then so be it. O-Juice’s unnecessary loss is OC Blog’s gain.
Pedroza,
You numba 10. Telling Pham to “Didi Mao” no good.
Hey Jubal, would a USC Football player be allowed to also play for UCLA? Would a Green Bay Packer also be allowed to play simultanously for the Chicago Bears? There is a certain friendly rivalry between your two blogs that makes it interesting. Quang was watering it down by blogging for both. Lets keep up the spirit of competition, it is fun to watch. The Political Insiders vs. The Political Rebels
Jubal,
In some parts of the world, farmers get bit by black mamba snakes on particularly unluck days – and when that happens, they know that the only way they will live to tell the tale is to lop off the hand that has been bitten. We are in fact lessened by Pham’s departure – but we will live to tell more stories…
