Nguyen getting help from the OC GOP – and he is not happy with Loretta Sanchez
I found out today that OC GOP Chairman Scott Baugh will be hosting a fundraiser for Tan Nguyen (pictured at right with U.S. Rep. Dennis Hastert), the GOP candidate for the 47th Congressional District, at his home on August 24. The cost of this event is $250 per guest. For more information, please call Nguyen’s campaign manager, Ryan Flynn, at (714) 530-1612. You can also read about this event online at this link.
Our friends at the Liberal OC Blog also posted an item recently about Nguyen. Apparently he wrote a letter to Sanchez asking her to stop lying about his position on immigration. Here is what he had to say in his letter:
It has been reported to me that you have been misstating my stance on illegal immigration, and erroneously stating that I support House Bill H.R.4437. Part of that bill makes being an illegal alien a felony. I do not support that aspect of the bill, and I never have. Furthermore, I strongly oppose any part of the bill which criminalizes the humanitarian effort of religious organizations.
I do not support anything that would encourage illegal immigration, but it is a serious distortion of my program to state that I would condone placing illegal aliens in prison.
As there are many issues which we legitimately disagree on, I am sure it is not necessary to misstate each others positions.
I therefore would expect you to refrain from repeating this incorrect description of my stance.
I am not sure why Nguyen would expect Sanchez to be reasonable. However his letter perhaps indicates that he is backing away from his harsh rhetoric on immigration as we head for the general election. Smart move. He also needs to connect himself to the Scwharzenegger campaign as much as possible. I’m sure the Governor could use Nguyen’s help in reaching out to the Vietnamese American voters in the OC.
It about time that the party starts helping Tan.
From what I’m seeing this guy has commited enough of his money to confirm how serious and committed he’s is about beating Lorreta. In fact, he came to my house and met my wife on some hot sweltering day before the June primary.
In April I met him at the Favori resturant and thought based on the number of Vietnamese Republicans there are in the 47th CD he would beat Avila. Not to my surprise, he easily pulled through because of this reason and his commitment to walking heighborhoods.
While his campaign material was great for the June primary, his campaign should not be sending Latino democrats pieces about Illegal Immigration.(last week) He should be spending any and all resources from here to the election day registering to vote and educating Vietnamese voter about his campaign.
He also needs to let people know that given that the President and Congress are controlled by Republicans we have lost millions of dollars of our tax monies because we have a democrat representing us.
I don’t think this fact would be to hard to explain to voters.
I believe Tan is a pretty bright guy and understands the dynamics of this race. He was a hard core conservative in the primary, but now that the general has come around, its lets move to the middle.
This tactic may prove to be effective and at least get more votes than the previous candidates. The problem however, I believe, will be the problem Republicans will have with this swaying, but truthfully speaking it is a smart move.
We can talk about Loretta all day…and you could probably convince me that we need a new congressperson. But Tan Nguyen???? Come on! I know you Republicans can find someone more electable than that!

You mean, Tan Nguyen is seeking help from….(cue scary, ominous music)…The Machine?
Run! Run for your lives!
Why would the GOP help Tan over Mark Leyes when both were Democrats who switched to the GOP?
Tan is nothing more than an opportunist! When he loses in the 47th this year, he can then run for the 40th in 2008. Then the 42nd in 2010. Then the 48th in 2012.
Tan told me he was in support of HR 4437 and would have voted for it. Tan is a flip flopper.

If Nguyen will not place illegal aliens in prison,…… where is he gone place them?
Stan,When you round them all up,is that where you suggest they be placed?

– Here’s an example of the RNCC supporting 33-year-old first-time public office seeker and Marine Iraq veteran Van Taylor running against a 16-year Dem incumbent. His Texas district is “the most heavily Republican in the country not already represented by a GOP lawmaker.” Pres. Bush’s Crawford Ranch is in it.

Speaker Hastert stumps in Bush’s congressional district
08/02/2006
By ANGELA K. BROWN / Associated Press
Among the dozen or so congressional seats Republicans are hoping to pick up this fall is the district that includes President Bush’s Crawford ranch, U.S. House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert said Tuesday while campaigning for its GOP candidate.
Poor Congressman Chet Edwards has to have Bush as a constituent and we know Bush spends A LOT of time in Crawford.
