Run, Carlos, Run!

A little pajarito told me that Santa Ana Council Member Carlos Bustamante hosted a fundraiser last Wednesday at Antonello’s – and his speech was one for the ages. Apparently he was introduced by Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido and his amigo Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle. Larry Agran must not have been available!

Bustamante got up and told those in attendance that many people had been asking him to run. Of course his council seat does not come up for two and a half years, so folks had to read between the lines. He was described in the program for the event as “Orange County’s Rising Star,” and we can infer from that what his true intention is. He hopes to run for Lou Correa’s seat on the Board of Supervisors, but he cannot say so because that means he will be hoping that the GOP candidate who is opposing Correa for the 34th Senate District, Lynn Daucher, will lose.

My source told me that many of those who paid to be at the event were wise to Bustamante’s true intentions and were smirking while he pumped himself up. But it got worse. Bustamante talked about how lucky he has been in his political career – being at the right place at the right time. And then he compared himself to Forrest Gump! I swear, you can’t make this stuff up…

Update: for a hilarious look at Bustamante in his “Bubba Gump” hat go to the Liberal OC Blog.
