Flash says no to bailiff idea – but is he telling the truth?

Yesterday, the OC Register’s Total Buzz blog reported that OC Sheriff Mike Carona’s PR spokesperson Jon Fleischman had countered my post about the possibility of Lt. Bill Hunt, who opposed Carona in the June primary election, being transferred to the OC courthouse, as a bailiff. Fleischman claims that Hunt, as a Lieutenant, cannot become a bailiff because they are only deputies.

However, I met with a retired deputy sheriff last night and he claimed that Hunt could indeed become a bailiff – at the Captain level. So who is telling the truth? Personally, I don’t trust anything that comes out of Fleischman’s mouth. I have my own theory as to what is going on. My post may have stopped Carona from doing anything, for the moment. However, according to the deputy I spoke to, it is very possible that Hunt will be transferred to an even worse position, working the night shift at the Emergency Operations Center at Loma Ridge.

Fleischman claims that he has no knowledge of plans or possible punishment facing Hunt. That doesn’t mean there aren’t any brewing. I have no doubt that when Carona’s investigation into Hunt’s alleged campaign improprieties ends, Hunt will end up paying a bitter price for daring to take on the “Little Sheriff.”
