I met with Lupe Moreno, the conservative Republican candidate for the 34th Senate District, tonight and she shared with me some of the mailers that RINO Lynn Daucher has been sending to unsuspecting voters in the district. I’ll say this for Daucher’s handlers – they are very good liars. The mailers make it look like Daucher is the conservative, when in fact she is a liberal.
Take a look at the mailer on the left – it mentions that conservatives including Ed Royce, Van Tran, and Chris Norby are all backing Daucher. Disgusting! Santa Ana Council Member Carlos Bustamante also sold out to the Daucher machine. I guess I won’t be supporting him for the OC Board of Supervisors after Supervisor Lou Correa wins the primary and goes on to defeat Daucher in the general.
Some of the GOP squishes I have battled over the years have also stepped up for Daucher, including pro-PLA Ken Maddox (pictured below) and Jim Morrissey (who was famously retired by Correa a few years ago after outspending Correa by a huge margin).
The most ridiculous quote in one of the mailers features Tran saying that he supports Daucher because “of her commitment to fighting tax increases on working families.” Who is he kidding? Daucher voted against repealing the car tax – but I guess all is forgiven now, and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, the guy who fought to repeal the car tax, is now backing Daucher. Good grief!
Moreno tells me that she has received about 18 mailers from the Daucher campaign. My sources tell me that Daucher is desperately trying to raise more money. What is she going to do in the general, if she makes it, and the cupboard is bare? Nice plan Team Daucher…I don’t think Correa has anything to worry about.
Art,
You’re probably right about Lou not having much to worry about from Daucher. The IE’s spreading misinformation and lies about Umberg will more than likely crush any chance Lou might have had at winning with their nasty attacks.
On Wednesday the 31st almost $50,000 in Unmarked Cash for Lou Correa was added to the slime campaign.
Brian Joseph from the Orange County Register Sacramento Bureau reported on the Register
Great points Art. And Carlos Bustamante should be worrying about his own potential family legal problems with his twin brother and sister in law taking free trips on private jets and condo stays in Hawaii from Developers building a 35 story building in Santa Ana. The Bustamante family seems to be as crooked as a dogs hind leg and I don’t see how his endorsement of Doucher gets her any votes.
It’s a shame that Art just can’t stop bashing Daucher.
I guess all those many people endorsing Daucher are wrong and Art is right?
A good Republican, especially one who aspires to be a Central Committee representative, would support the party candidate. For that matter they wouldn’t be supporting a Dem (Correa) and gloating about how the Dem candidate will win. How inappropriate!
Daucher is the best Reep candidate for this race. She will win the Republican spot for the runoff.
With the grace of God and the help of good Republicans (and a few Democrats) she can win the 34th.
7:21,
Give me a break – I would rather not be on the Central Committee if the price of admission is backing Daucher. If she is so great, why is she having to overspend in the primary? Why bring in a candidate with NO name ID in the district? And she has never faced a tough Dem before. But she will now.
Prevatt – I know you don’t like Correa, but let’s be realistic. Umberg is toast…
The Daucher/Ackerman team is really too much. It’s the old, We are not from the district so lets try to fool those dumb ethnic voters. How? Well first let’s get photos of Daucher with Asians and Mexicans. Then when a Mexican or Asian voter sees it they will vote for her because “she’s down with our people” Our people are smarter than that Lynn and I got some more news for you. No one in Santa Ana knows Carlos Bustamante except Mike Harrah. So dumb.
Carlos who?
Art,
You’re right, I don’t like Lou. I think it has something to do with the fact that he is more of a Republican than a Democrat. It would have been great to see Lou finally change party registration an join the Republican Party. The race in the general election would be much more fun.
Of course, I think you’re wrong about Tom being toast. At this point however, it is all speculation on both our parts.
We’ll know on Wednesday at any rate.
Thanks for keeping your blog open to differing points of view. You are fostering political debate, and that is ultimitly what freedom is all about.
The GOP Establishment sold out by dragging Daucher into a district she has no connection to and making her the candidate. Ackerman, and every other “conservative” endorsing Daucher ought to be ashamed.
Chris read this from the ocblog,
“The reason I bring this up is this campaign letter from Robin Umberg I spotted on The Liberal OC. In it, Mrs. Umberg makes the following statement:
Several of the campaign mailers that have been sent out on behalf of Mr. Correa contain inaccurate information and made-up quotes. For instance, I never told the Orange County Register newspaper that my husband was a
chris
You don’t like lou because of one reason and only one reason.
You believe, unlike the overwhelming majortity of voters in your district, that two men should be allowed to get married.
The people of the 69th, as well as the voters of California have resoundingly said, “it’s Adam and eve not Adam and Steve.” Marriage is recognized between a Ma and a woman.
Anonymous 12:09 PM
You missed the point of my post on The Liberal OC blog and Robin Umberg’s as well.
Lou Correa’s supporting cast of IE’s has used what Robin said, in a moment of anger, to the woman who had an affair with her husband, twisted it to look like a statement to the Register, and then used it as a reason why voters should not support her husband Tom Umberg.
This is about as low as a political hit piece can go. To use a candidates family in such a way is unacceptable. Attacking on issues and positions, that’s fair game.
Bringing a candidates family into the mix is simply disgusting.
The reason the Republican corporate special interests are backing Lou Correa in the Democratic Primary is that they want the one true Republican to win the general election. In their eyes, that Republican is Lou Correa, not Daucher.
Anonymous 12:15 PM
You’re a Moron.
I happen to believe that all people are created equal, and that in our country and our state they should be treated equally. Everyone should be entitled to the same rights and benefits of living in a civilized society.
Civil rights should not be restricted to individuals of a particular religious belief. Rather, these rights belong to us all.
The founders of this country went to great lengths to protect the rights of a minority from the tyranny of the majority.
It is too bad that you believe it is ok to restrict my right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
I have plenty of reasons for not supporting Lou Correa. The greatest of these is that he is a Republican in a Democrat’s clothing and has no business running as a Democrat. Marriage equality is somewhere towards the bottom of my personal list.
DEMOCRAT!!!!!
“it’s Adam and eve not Adam and Steve.”
Look, if you want to put forth an argument against same sex marriage, please do so. But don’t give us inane comments like “it’s Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.”
What a waste of electrons.
Chris
If supporting the institution of marriage between a man and a woman means being called a moron then we are the moron majority.
I don’t need a history or political lesson to understand your choices in life.
You reference the “founding fathers” as what they believed the intent of equal rights but intentionally overlook that many groups did not have equal rights.
That was wrong then, but what your so called “equal cause” today infringes on my rights, that’s where the majority of people have a problem.
There are plenty of people who think outside the norm or beyond the legal or ethical bounds of our society , once we start giving up our rights our great society collapses.
Art,
Had Lupe ran a good campaign or had any money to at least send out some mailers, Lou/Umberg, would not have been worried either way. Daucher is the best the Republicans can do in that seat and truthfully it she is a better choice even if you are Republican. The 34th district is not comprised on hard core republicans, so it is likely a moderate would win, hence Chris’ point. Winner, the person closest ot the middle, either Lou (many consider a DINO, or Daucher who many consider a RINO)
Daucher lists 8 year Republican city councilwoman Albert Christy on her list of endorsements. As an African American and her long years of grass roots service you might think she would have a photo of the two of them on her Rainbow Ethnic outreach mail.( The “Some of my best friends are Mexican and Asian” brochures) The ones with her photographed with Mexicans and Asians. A black woman would have been a nice addition. Oh that’s right, there are not any more black voters in Santa Ana. They all moved to the Inland Empire. Funny, it didn’t stop our girl Lynn from making it to the Black History Parade this year.
supporting the institution of marriage between a man and a woman
I support the institution of marriage between a man and a woman. In fact, I’ve been participating in one for almost 25 years. I also support marriage between two individuals of the same gender.
your so called “equal cause” today infringes on my rights
How so?
once we start giving up our rights our great society collapses
You make it sound like there are only so many marriages to go around. Guess what! It’s not like petroleum — marriage is a renewable resource. You can’t use it up!
I’ll tell you who does undermine marriage, though. People like Britney Spears who undertake a joke marriage in Las Vegas and get divorced the next day. That’s destructive of marriage.
Why should our laws and society allow a sham marriage like Britney’s when my neighbors, who’ve been together for 17 years, can’t be legally joined?
I smell a donkey and he calls himself Art!!!!
Chris and Art,
I commend you both for supporting your choices, but let’s not fool ourselves. Ackerman had to get Lynn to run for the Reps in the 34th. Van Tran is corrupt and not well known. (Even Baugh can’t stand him.) The 34th is a moderate district. Same goes for the Dems. Tom is not an honest person and unfortunately for Chris, Lou is a better fit.
The reason Lou jumped in the race is because Tom couldn’t keep his pants zipped and has problems telling the truth. Tom is politcally damaged. He won’t win against Lynn in November. Another reason the DPOC hates Lou is that he won’t kiss Barbaro’s behind, while Umberg is only to willing to bend over.
Make no mistake, this will be the most bitterly contested race in November. Thankfully the primary will be over in a mere 4 days. Art and Chris, I suggest you get out and start walking this weekend. Don’t forget your sunscreen!
Art –
As Lupe’s campaign manager you should have taken the time and care to get a good head shot of the woman. The photos cropping up in the newspapers makes her look like a convicted felon.
Any candidate who doesn’t take the time to fund raise but chases Minuteman Gilchrist cross country, does not deserve to be elected.
Lupe has only proven that she does what she wants, when she wants. She’s outta control.
I refuse to vote for Correa because of his loyalty to Claudia “la loca” Alvarez.
11:56,
I don’t know where the Register got that picture, but yes it was not flattering. Not much we can do about that now.
As for money, Lupe did raise about $11K, but the papers were filed in Sacramento and the Register only found out about it today. They will run a correction tomorrow.
You guys have to remember that Lupe got into this in the first place to bring attention to her issues, and in that she succeeded. When Tran ran for the hills, she ended up being the defacto conservative candidate, but how do you take on the entire GOP machine and live to tell about it?
Daucher is a nightmare for us, but all I can do is urge folks to vote for Lupe.
And I don’t care what anyone says about this – the 34th is not a liberal district. Daucher is a liberal. So is Umberg. They are both bad fits for this district. Both are destined to lose.
Lou slinked into the race for one reason—its what Lou wanted. Despite telling the OCEA and OCDS he would serve out his term, Lou’s always had an eye on going back to Sacramento. Misses the night life. Misses being in the majority. Misses the comraderie. Whatever, but he’s in it for Lou.
The reason the Dems don’t like Lou has nothing to do with Barbaro. Its got everything to do with Lou bending over for the folks who are spending the money to try and elect him–every corporate buccaneer in the state is contributing to the ie’s-slinging the worst mud at Umberg and pumping up a candidate too feeble tro raise his own money–every corporate entity that opposes increasing the minimum wage, that fight strong environmental controls, that fight consumer legislation that support anti-union efforts like Prop. 75.
I f Correa wins the primary thanks to the corporate largesse greased up by Perata Democrats might as well sit home..theres not a dimes worth of difference between Correa and Daucher.
I’m SHOCKED!!!
Shocked that Lupe Moreno can COUNT as high as 18.
Did she need to take off her shoes to get that high?

Now Anonymous, Lupe did not have to take her shoes off to count to 18…
She used a calculator.
Col. Umberg violated the UCMJ, Article 134, which provides for 1 year in the brig and other penaties. What does he get? Nice retirmeent with great benefits and a pension at the full Col. level when he reaches 60. As a taxpayer, I am very unhappy about this. A non-girle man would take his medicine and get on with his life, not use his wealth of policital capital to escape the consequences of his actions.
