Elected Central Committee Member sues Republican Party of Orange County over illegal re-vote and endorsement of Sheriff Mike Carona
After a number of attempts to get the Chairman of the OCGOP Central Committee to uphold the by-laws and invalidate the re-vote and endorsement of Sheriff Mike Carona, Tim Whitacre, a Central Committee Member is filing a lawsuit in Central Court at 1:00PM on Tuesday, May 9th, seeking a Ex Parte Motion for the case to go before a judge that same afternoon.
The lawsuit brings to the Court
Now, I am not a Republican, but does their endorsement really mean that much to the campaigns? Or this really just a person, suing for the sake of principle?
I am completely unaware of its importance.
We are so lucky to have moral, upstanding, leaders of principle like Tim. Don’t give up Tim! Keep the Faith! You have them on the run!!
The release says this lawsuit was filed at 1:00 requesting a same day hearing.
Did Tim get his hearing, and if so, what was the disposition?
I spoke with Tim just a while ago. The Judge has agreed there is merit in the motion and will hear the case this coming Monday, the 15th, at 11:00 AM.
On behalf of voters everywhere, I hope Tim’s motion wins and right prevails over the Schroder/Fleischman/Baugh/Carona crowd that has taken the OCGOP down the toilet. A win will embolden others to hold electeds accountable to the law.
Praying for you, Tim. Win or lose, you’re doing the right thing by not giving a pass to others simply because they’re republicans!
Tim said it, I believe it, that settles it!
Pretty tuff stand to take. Mr Whitacre is bucking the bought and paid for politics.
Even judges keep out of the way of the dirty dogs. At worst/best the courts may require another vote.
Regardless of the merits, any publicity about this lawsuit will bring out the ongoing claims from the Hunt camp towards the Corona camp…this is a win- win if it gets attention and goes beyong monday’s hearing
Luis, do you think Armando will be touting his democratic party nomination to the voters…yeah , your right the Democratic party local leaders and state leaders are irrelevant
Anon-
I didn’t mean to sound condescending, it was an honest question. I was uninformed of the situation and was simply asking for clarification. Thank you for providing that.
Cook,
You are so right about the “bought and paid for politics” part.
In the Carona finance disclosure that covered from June – Dec 2005, you will notice that Carona’s campaign gave the OCGOP $20,000. That’s a hefty sum for anyone to contribute.
Do you think there’s an expected quid pro quo (duh) for an endorsement??? Man, I would have loved to have been at the March meeting where Whitacre debated Carona and Carona failed to get the endorsement the first time.
No wonder the Carona yahoos played Al Gore politics for the shot at a re-vote – Carona had no intention of “giving” the GOP one dime.
I admire Whitacre for his stance. We all need to hope he wins this case. It’s good for everyone, regardless of party affiliation.
