Costa Mesa P.D. Copies O.C. Sheriff’s immigration law enforcement plan

The Costa Mesa City Council voted yesterday to essentially copy the O.C. Sheriff’s plan that would allow illegal immigrants to be reported by certain jail personnel and investigators, according to the O.C. Register (http://www.ocregister.com/ocregister/homepage/abox/article_877169.php). Will other cities in Orange County follow suit? I don’t think it is a bad idea. I worked for some time at a criminal defense law firm in central O.C., and noticed that many defendants would flee to Mexico. Sometimes they would return under a different name. The most common cases of this nature were DUIs. If this new policy will lead to incarceration or deportation of drunk drivers and other criminals of that ilk, more the better!
