Norby and Silva say “no” to illegal immigration
Orange County Supervisors Chris Norby and Jim Silva co-authored an interesting editorial in today’s O.C. Register, regarding the cost of jailing illegal immigrants, at http://www.ocregister.com/ocregister/opinion/abox/article_912378.php. It’s hard to argue with their logic – it currently costs $48,847 a day to jail an illegal immigrant, although the article does not mention why it costs so much. Norby and Silva argue that ultimately we must stop illegal immigration because of this and other costs. They’re right, but you just know that Nativo Lopez and his ilk will come out swinging and will accuse these Supervisors of being racist.
We ought to be billing the countries these illegal immigrants come from for the cost of housing them in our jails, although Norby and Silva are correct in that our federal government is not doing enough to cover these costs.
