It is hard to figure out what has happened to Paul Lucas. I spoke to him at length last night, at Drinking Liberally. It was rather brave of him to show up, but he did bring Commie Girl with him and she was not happy. Well, with me anyway. Something Sarah Spinosa posted about Commie Girl and former State Senator Joe Dunn made her very enojada. It was all I could do avoid having my head ripped off by her, but I digress.
I asked Paul when he was going to become a Republican. I was joking, but also somewhat serious. I don't think he realizes the extent to which he has tanked his reputation in his party. Everyone is aghast that he has apparently gotten in bed with the Trannies. I asked him in fact if he was going to sue the Trannies for putting his signature on the infamous letter that was distributed at this week's OC GOP Central Committee meeting. No, he said, he was not going to sue them.
Well, if my signature was used without my permission, I think I would sue. It is obvious that Paul WAS working with the Trannies, even if he does show some remorse now. How could this happen?
I am sure you are familiar with the expression, "pride goeth before the fall." In this case, Paul told me that he became upset with Supervisor Janet Nguyen because she said something mean about him to someone else, who then ratted her out to Paul. He refused to say what was said about him.
I know for a fact that Paul went nuts trying to get an appointment from Supervisor Nguyen to the Harbors, Beaches and Parks Commission. He drove her staff nuts for weeks in his pursuit of that elusive appointment. But put yourself in Nguyen's shoes for a minute. How could she appoint the guy who ran against the incumbent Republican in the 68th A.D.? Her party would have slammed her! Nguyen had no choice but to NOT appoint Paul. And he took that personally.
Paul was so mad that he did something unbelievable. He went over to the dark side. He went over to the Trannies. I wonder if Mike Schroeder or Van Tran recruited him? Or maybe both of them did? It reminds me of the scene in Return of the Jedi, where the dark and evil Emperor goads Luke Skywalker, telling him to feel his anger and strike at Dark Vader. Luke was sorely tempted, but in the end he dropped his weapon and refused to go to the Dark Side. Paul unfortunately did embrace his anger and resentment, and now his political career is all but over.
The question is, when WILL Paul go Republican? I don't see how he avoids this. He is DONE in the Democratic Party. It sort of reminds me of my old friend Al Snook. Al was always rejected by the OC GOP. So one day I told him he ought to go Reform and run for the Assembly. That was back when the Reform Party was kicking tail. So he did. And the Reform Party promptly collapsed. When Al went over to the Democrats, O.C. Register reporter Martin Wisckol called him a "political whore." What will he call Paul when HE goes red? And what can we call Paul now that he has been marked by the Trannies? What a mess. It is not unlike a Greek tragedy.Labels: mike schroeder, oc gop, orange county democrats, Paul Lucas, Trannies, van tran

Is the image above the latest OC GOP newsletter? No, it is just a spoof. Let's face it, the OC GOP machine is in a tailspin, and they are primed to be made fun of. From disgraced OC Treasurer Chriss Street to indicted OC Sheriff Mike Carona, there are plenty of Republican politicians to poke fun at. Not to mention the debacle that was the "Friends of John Urell" and the disaster that defeating Measure D turned out to be.
One has to wonder why the OC Democrats aren't piling on. But then again, their Chairman, Frank Barbaro, endorsed Carona. As did many other prominent OC Democrats like State Senator Lou Correa and OC Clerk/Recorder Tom Daly. And Wylie Aitken, the head of the OC Democratic Foundation, is the "Urell Amigos" lawyer! And let us not forget that Nick Berardino, the head of the OC public employees union, and Wayne Quint, who heads up the OC Deputy Sheriff's union, both fought Measure D, alongside OC GOP machine figurehead John Lewis.
And don't forget that in Santa Ana, the only Orange County city with an almost all Democratic City Council and a Democratic Mayor, you can't even tell that the elected Democrats are not Republicans. They did not vote to support the Dream Act. They so despise immigrant workers that they banned human signs and almost banned handbill delivery. They raised water rates such that Santa Ana residents now pay more than the Republicans in Irvine. They won't let the people vote on mayoral term limits. They are in bed with developers, to the detriment of the city's residents. And the Democratic Mayor, Miguel Pulido, regularly endorses Republicans, including racist nut and SAUSD Trustee Rosie Avila, OC Sheriff Mike Carona, and OC Supervisorial candidate Carlos "Space Commander" Bustamante.
So in the end a Blue County would not be all that different from a Red County, would it? Same results, different knuckleheads. No wonder so many California voters have switched to "Decline to State. Take a look at the graphic below. Since 1994, Decline to State voters have increased statewide from a little over ten percent of the overall electorate to over 18%! Can't blame them. I expect that the DTS column will be climbing in Orange County this year too.

As promised, here goes the Santa Ana elections. This was definitely the best show to watch all evening as all three wards had competing Democrats seeking the party endorsement.
First up is Ward 2, the race to succeed Lisa Bist. A bit of lead up drama to this. Most people thought there were only two Democrats in the race, Tish Leon and Michelle Martinez, with Tino Rivera being a DTS who will become a Rep after the election and Evangelyne being a Republican. Then in the last week we started hearing from reliable sources that Fortino Rivera was, in fact, a Democrat. He eventually came forward and admitted he is a Democrat and wanted to seek the party endorsement. There was some confusion because people kept hearing stories that Tino was a Decline to State who intended to be come Republican after the election. This account came from several sources, including people who have no connection to each other. His consultant is close to the GOP machine(Paul Glabb) and Dale Dykema had held a fundraiser for Tino. I honestly could not picture either of these two ever supporting a Dem, much less one who sought out the party endorsement. Regardless, Tino, being a REGISTERED DEMOCRAT, did seek the party endorsement.
So now we had a three way race for the endorsement between Tish Leon, Michelle Martinez and Tino Rivera. All three got a chance to speak. Tish touted her work in the health care field. Michelle got up there and talked about her youth and being the future of the City and the party. That is always a plus for me. Tino "four touchdowns in a single game" Rivera got up there and talked about his roots in the city, about his Football career, about being a lifelong Dem and how he was once teammates with Central Committee member Tom Pallow. Then came time for the vote. Since I am presently undecided between Tish and Michelle I abstained from this vote. All the confusion from Tino's constant party flip flopping has put him on the not voting for list. After that round, Tish got the least amount of votes and it went into a runoff between Michelle and Tino. This time, since I know I am not supporting Tino, I voted for Michelle Martinez since I would rather see her get the party nod between the two of them. More than 60% of my fellow Central Committee members agreed, Michelle Martinez got the party nod.
Then came Ward 4, the race to succeed Alberta Christy with candidates David Benavides and Nelida Yanez. David Benavides went first and got up and touted his working class roots growing up. He discussed getting his education and helping others less fortunate find housing. He talked about all the good he did for his neighborhood and founding a neighborhood association in the heart of Santa Ana, Bella Vista. It truly is an American story. Then late coming candidate Nelida Yanez came up, who is Claudia Alvarez' candidate. In fact Nelida admitted being a Claudia supporter to the Central Commitee(not smart). She tried to be a little humerous by claiming she had been a Democrat longer than Benavides because she had been alive longer. I got a few chuckles. She then touted that she has been pro-labor, she had been in the military and she was an immigrant. Sounds like good credentials. Problem is I could never endorse her, she is a clear Claudia hack. First, I fail to understand how one can be pro-labor and support someone who took a check from Safeway during the strike. Then there is this fact, in 2004, she posted on the Santa Ana Citizens Yahoogroups that the reason I supported Tom Umberg over Claudia was because I did not want Mexican women holding office. So the vote was easy for me, I voted for David Benavides, who I proudly support for Ward 4. I truly look forward to David being on teh City Council. In the end the party agreed with me, David Benavides got the party nod.
Finally Ward 6 came up, the one where Mike Garcia vacated. The two candidates are current School Board Trustee Sal Tinajero and Jennifer Villasenor. Up until the last minute it seemed as if Sal was going to get a free ride to an endorsement, but then Jennifer turned her paperwork in. and came to the Central Committee meeting. This was the first time I met her in person, she is an attractive young woman in her late 20's. In fact, an observer at the meeting went to sit next to her, not realizing she was a candidate and tried to hit on her. A joke was mentioned that this was a battle of "Beauty vs. The Beast. " Hence the picture.
Sal Tinajero went first, and man did his speech steal the show. I have to hand it to him, the man can speak. He began it by proudly proclaiming he was NOT endorsed by the Mayor in which the room erupted into cheers(many members still bitter over reports of a shakedown of Mike Garcia which led to him dropping out of politics). He went on to castigate the state of the city, echoing a concern of Art Pedroza's about the closing of the book mobile and two libraries.
After his speech, Ray Cordova asked Jennifer if she still wanted to come up. She spoke and did an alright job, but not nearly as good as Sal. She did say she was proud to be endorsed by the Mayor(bad move with this crowd, activists love a martyr and that is how they see Mike Garcia at this point) and not by Claudia Alvarez(good move with the crowd but too late to recover). I also abstained from this vote since I am undecided and want to actually talk with Jennifer Villasenor before I make a decision. I also want to sit and talk with Sal over his defection to the Claudia Alvarez camp this past spring, especially in light of the character assassination she had her hacks try to do to me on this blog and how she publicly claimed she would blackball me forever from Santa Ana politics. I do want some answers for his decision. Until then I will not endorse. In the end though, Sal Tinajero got the party nod. In other words, in the battle of "Beauty vs. the Beast", the "Beast" was the better speaker, had more chrisma and ultimately "Beauty" lost to the "Beast."Labels: michele martinez, orange county democrats
