(1) CAN YOU STILL VOTE BY MAIL?

Yes — but your ballot must be postmarked by Election Day!!!!!!!  That means IN the MAILBOX BEFORE the daily PICKUP DEADLINE!

In California, your ballot will still count if it comes within 17 after the election (5 p.m. on Nov. 20 election.  So go ahead and vote by mail IF you’re sure you can follow all of the rules about where to sign, how to mark your ballot, etc.  But you have some good alternatives discussed in the next sections?  Try a voting center or a real, official, OC drop box!

(2) WHERE ARE THE VOTING CENTERS?  (THIS PART IS NEW!)

Vote Centers (which replace precincts) are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day from now through Tuesday evening.

Sometimes it almost saddens me how good OC’s Election System is, because I wish that every voter everywhere could have it so good.  I’m going to put a link to a page right up here so you can find it   That page gives you THE WAIT TIMES AT ALL VOTING CENTERS!  (Same link.  It bore repeating.)

John Earl had a good idea on Facebook, back when the unofficial “Official” Republican Ballot Drop Box saga unfolding, to link to the OC Registrar of Voters’ Page with a list of all of OC’s actually official ballot drop boxes.  We go that idea one better: we’re swiping the whole thing, for your ease of access!   But please double check with the link, in the event that there are updates, or we had a transporter malfunction and the code got mixed with that of a fly, or Russian Hackers gain access to this site.  Still — this is a good starting place!

These boxes, unlike the unofficial ones, are hardened against attack and under are under 24/7 surveillance, and (according to reports I’ve seen) are emptied and taken to the OC ROV’s  office once every two days (or even more often, as things head up.)  So you can vote in confidence that your ballot will get to where it’s supposed to go!  (Can the Republican Party say the same?  It’s doubtful — but that’s a story for a different day!)

Somewhat verbose attorney, semi-retired due to disability, residing in northwest Brea. Occasionally runs for office against bad people who would otherwise go unopposed. Got 45% of the vote against Bob Huff for State Senate in 2012; Josh Newman then won the seat in 2016. In 2014 became the first attorney to challenge OCDA Tony Rackauckas since 2002; Todd Spitzer then won that seat in 2018. Every time he's run against some rotten incumbent, the *next* person to challenge them wins! He's OK with that. Deposed as Northern Vice Chair of DPOC in April 2014 (in violation of Roberts Rules) when his anti-corruption and pro-consumer work in Anaheim infuriated the Building Trades and Teamsters in spring 2014, who then worked with the lawless and power-mad DPOC Chair to eliminate his internal oversight. Expelled from DPOC in October 2018 (in violation of Roberts Rules) for having endorsed Spitzer over Rackauckas -- which needed to be done. None of his pre-putsch writings ever spoke for the Democratic Party at the local, county, state, national, or galactic level, nor do they now. One of his daughters co-owns a business offering campaign treasurer services to Democratic candidates and the odd independent. He is very proud of her. He doesn't directly profit from her work and it doesn't affect his coverage. (He does not always favor her clients, though she might hesitate to take one that he truly hated.) He does advise some local campaigns informally and (so far) without compensation. (If that last bit changes, he will declare the interest.)
