Weekend Open Thread: Anonymous Racist Crazy Time at Cunningblog

He was Trump’s role model (via Roy Cohn), sure — but the Cunningblog would surely have let Joe McCarthy post his attacks there anonymously. (Vice pays!)  “No shame?”  That’ll cost extra!

It’s been a while since we served just desserts upon the Cunningblog — I stopped reading it in the long-ago pre-Covid era — but Vern has put up a comment in response to a question by Ryan; as I’ve decided make what was going to be this week’s Weekend Open Thread into a story that will be shared, that left me without a theme — and so I’m escalating the situation.  (The comment at the Cunningblog was about someone telling Dr. Jose Moreno to “go back to Sinaloa”; I couldn’t find the comment there, so maybe Jerbal figured out it was a loser.)

UPDATE:  Here is the comment from someone calling themselves “No More MORENO”  which reads “This small man needs to go back to sinaloa or oxnard. Such a shame for district 3. Cannot wait until his radical socialist mentality is gone from publuc service.”  It’s still there a week later – Matt sees no problem with his commenter telling Jose to go back to Mexico.

First, it’s anonymous attack time of the election cycle– actually, anytime is, but it gets worse at this point, when there’s money to be made from it — so let’s get to it.  Here’s a list of bullet points from comment in the Cunningblog from a thousand monkeys who managed to come up with something sounding a whole lot like our own dearly ejected “kenlaysnotdead,” who in his various forms was absolutely consumed with the sex life of a certain Latino pol, along with my comments in italics:

Colmon Aldridge

  • We are EATING our own

Really, if we’re eating people, they’re pretty sure not to be “our own.”  (Can’t answer for Jerbal.)

  • + Vern attacks Yesenia Rojas …

Yesenia has become a big promoter of “Complicit Steve” Faessel.  Many of us are sad about it, but it’s not an attack.

  • … and exclaims “She doesn’t even live on Anna Drive anymore”!

“Exclaims”?  Do we have a volume control now?  No, he just pointed out that she moved out of the community of which she was once an integral part — one imagines probably with some help.

  • GOOD FOR HER. He goes on to attack her as a big mouth and attention grabber.

Uh … no.  Disguised identity = easier to lie.

  • Nelson goes on to BASH other Democrat activists with thinly veiled RACIST statements

Uh, no racist statements, veiled or otherwise.  Liar.

  • “His ‘Hero’ in Huntington Beach, Victor Valladares, has been shleping himself as a Data Analysis Expert, albeit one with a GED and no real FORMAL education.”

Moron misspelled and misused “shlepping” — and yes, he has real formal education, ugly liar.

  • Victor was photographed at Long Beach GAY PRIDE with six transexual sex workers, two of
whom are incarcerated for KNOWINGLY infecting customers with HIV.

RACIST lying moron couldn’t back the last half this sentence if his life depended on it.  Yes Cunningham allows it.

  • “Ryan started a war with his colleague Ricardo Toro, a known Anaheim left wing activist.”

Former colleague.  And more like a skirmish.

  • Vern again used RACE BAITING as a weapon.

No idea what bigoted liar is talking about.

  • Really? The guy who injects RACE into his speeches at City Council ALL THE TIME. … “I am the WHITE MAN from Anna Drive” SIMPLY DISGUSTING.

Vern likes to call attention to Anna Drive, his and Donna’s home and the site of at least one gruesome police shooting. By describing himself as “the white man …” he calls attention to its Latino character as a reason for the sometimes violent police presence.

  • “Greg Diamond who accuses Yesenia Rojas of siding with her preferred candidate because
he helped her get out of legal trouble.

There’s no “accusation.”  I can’t speak about any private information from when I represented her, but it’s well known that she was sentenced to probation — and it’s also well-known that people on probation are subject to control and abuse by those who could termination their probation.  I theorized that if Faessel eased her difficulty with Anaheim’s prosecutor — remember that Anaheim’s City Attorney prosecutes misdemeanors, and I believe that either or both Vern or I wrote about this sickening political prosecution at the time — then she’s likely feel substantial gratitude to him.  Given that she had been planning to run against him, this would be the slightly less ugly side of using the power of office for political gain … but again, it’s just a hypothesis.  Hence my not having “knowledge” that it happened — just that it is plausible and would made sense of her conversion.

  • “Keep in mind Diamond was her lawyer for a time. This is a disgusting display of RACISM and BIGOTRY by Diamond.”

Uh, wut? Again, I can’t comment on details, but here’s what’s publicly known: I took over her representation shortly before an early hearing at North Court.  The hearing went well.  I then found her a very qualified criminal defense attorney — that’s not my area of practice — and transferred the case to her.  I put in the time pro bono, out of respect for her, and I don’t regret it at all.  Racism and bigotry?  Smile when you say that, podner — if you do actually have a face.

  • “[My] close DPOC colleagues [told me] “JUST GO AWAY GREG” because of his famous defiant contrarian self serving views.”

No, my close colleagues stuck by me — enough to prevent my expulsion, after which then-Chair Fran Sdao simply ignored Roberts Rules and booted me anyway. The fight was over my endorsing Todd Spitzer for District Attorney, partly because he was the only way to get rid of Tony Rackauckas and partially to help Democratic Sheriff’s candidate Duke Nguyen, who was running against awful Republican Don Barnes — who was endorsed by Lou Correa and Tom Daly, with the DPOC doing practically nothing substantial to support him.  I’ll own “defiant’ and “contrarian” in an organization that hates accountability and salvers to mollify the Republican-supporting Building Trades.

  • I am given to understand that Disney security has floated TRO (temporary Restraining Order) against Vern, Donna, The Robbins and others based on Robbins statement to “Blow That place up”. Now there’s a candidate statement (if she can raise or steal the $600.)

I don’t know whether that is entirely, or only mostly, a lie. (Did the TRO float?  Usually they don’t take this long to launch.  Did anyone named Robbins actually say anything of the kind?)  When I say that I’d love to see them try, I mean only that I’d love to join a legal team opposing them.  But this is probably a lie.

  • A congressional staffer posted on Facebook: “Dude this a**hole understands nothing about Latino’s and vote buying” chiming in on Liz Gracion’s comment. to which a reply saying “Yeah well Vern, can get some rent money and maybe some free stuff for his work, but he is NOT an Anna Drive guy, Never was, never will be” The post was immediately deleted.

Doesn’t identify the staffer, comment disappeared — yeah, this is really compelling.  And “a congressional staffer” is not necessarily high praise when Lou Correa represents Anaheim.  But it’s probably all a lie.

The slime will flow freely from the Cunningblog and its sister publications for the next three months.  Consider how ugly these cowardly anonymous character assassins are when you vote.  This is your Weekend Open Thread — talk about that or whatever else you’d like within reasonable bounds of decency and discretion.

About Greg Diamond

Somewhat verbose attorney, semi-retired due to disability, residing in northwest Brea. Occasionally runs for office against bad people who would otherwise go unopposed. Got 45% of the vote against Bob Huff for State Senate in 2012; Josh Newman then won the seat in 2016. In 2014 became the first attorney to challenge OCDA Tony Rackauckas since 2002; Todd Spitzer then won that seat in 2018. Every time he's run against some rotten incumbent, the *next* person to challenge them wins! He's OK with that. Deposed as Northern Vice Chair of DPOC in April 2014 (in violation of Roberts Rules) when his anti-corruption and pro-consumer work in Anaheim infuriated the Building Trades and Teamsters in spring 2014, who then worked with the lawless and power-mad DPOC Chair to eliminate his internal oversight. Expelled from DPOC in October 2018 (in violation of Roberts Rules) for having endorsed Spitzer over Rackauckas -- which needed to be done. None of his pre-putsch writings ever spoke for the Democratic Party at the local, county, state, national, or galactic level, nor do they now. One of his daughters co-owns a business offering campaign treasurer services to Democratic candidates and the odd independent. He is very proud of her. He doesn't directly profit from her work and it doesn't affect his coverage. (He does not always favor her clients, though she might hesitate to take one that he truly hated.) He does advise some local campaigns informally and (so far) without compensation. (If that last bit changes, he will declare the interest.)
