Supv. Lisa Bartlett wants a ballot measure that either (1) extends term limits to allow her to run for one more term, or (2) resets term limits for incumbents to allow her to run for three more terms. The latter possibility, which she denies, is much more disturbing.

Politicians naturally want to stay in their elected offices they value if they naturally can, and many would like term limits to be extinguished altogether. Sadly, South County’s Lisa Bartlett wants to stay until 2034 instead of running for State Senate to replace Patricia Bates. Compared to San Bernardino County, Orange County limits its members to two terms instead of San Bernardino County’s three terms. I can see providing them an extra term, but giving an extra three to incumbents is rather not cool.
On Tuesday July 14th, Supervisor Bartlett wants to bring forth a voter measure to extend her tenure for three more terms. However, it is up to the voters of Orange County to tell her and co-sponsor Doug Chaffee no thanks. There are three supervisors who are against this proposal right now Steel, Do and Wagner. However, its up to the constituents to let their members know that this is a bad idea.
[Ed. Note: Fleischman’s article would put a three-term lifetime limit on Supervisors, so she clearly wants to serve until 2026. The argument that she would serve until 2034 depends on whether this would give incumbents another three terms. He thinks it would; I tend to think so as well given the change in term limits last decade and the Santa Ana term limits reform. But frankly, people do seem to think that Bartlett would be running for the State Senate seat that Bates would leave open in 2022 — where she could serve until 2034 — so I’m not sure what this buys her. Maybe a hedge if she loses the primary? Anyway, back to Matt.]

Meanwhile, let’s open up a strong discussion on Freedom of Speech and Freedom
of the Press. Let’s start off with the classic: “What is HATE Speech?” Secondly,
“What is Inflammatory, Labeling and Ethnic Slurring?”. Thirdly, if you called someone
a “Left Wing, Liberal, Commie, Pinko Bedwetter” in 1958 how did Joe McCarthy get
away with that? Fourth; “If someone makes a nasty, rabid comment and signs the blog entry as: ‘Anonymous” would you consider that “Brave or Cowardly”? Finally, have the rules of the game changed so much – that back in 1950, if you put a bag of dog poop
on someone’s front porch and sprayed lighter fluid on it – that may have been called
“A Childish Prank”. In the 1960’s it would have been considered “Malicious Mischief”, and even a possible Felony if it caught the porch on fire. In 2020; that same behavior
might be considered by the Supreme Court as “Freedom of Speech”. The thought here is that our ethnic, moral and honor compass has changed over the years. What we should call “Intolerable Conduct” is now gone to be relegated to “Political Correctness”. This is unacceptable! How did Right Wing Rhetoric suddenly become OK and Common place? Should people actually be able to call someone: “Jew Boy”, “Slight Eye”, “Stone headed German”, “Kraut”, “Limey”, “Mick”, “Redman”, “Drunkin Indian”, “Black Boy”, “WOPS” or any of the other 150 Negative Ethnic Slurs available on the web?
In between and among all these attacks on our Human Brothers and Sisters – that go on day in and day out…..a few Organizations stand up for true “Freedom of Speech” without the HATE Speech. The Electronic Freedom Foundation has exhibited throughout the years their dedication to true “Open Expression – with the HATE!” We will not add their link…..if you have any desire to find out more….you can do that on your own. This election year will be one of the most nasty, aggressive and evil in our nations history. Having said that: Beware of the approximate 15 NEW Patriotic Web News that has come out since January. “Reliable this or Patriot that”? Really, Propaganda 101 more likely. “Trump under attack for defending human rights!” When you get these conflicting concepts…time to hit the delete button for all their stuff. We don’t know who will win in November. We just know that our country is “For Sale to the Highest Bidder”
and the results will cause either Revolution or Chaos and Military Martial Rule”. Your choice friends and neighbors….your choice!

Actually it was Moorlach. I remember cuz I wrote about it when it happened, and it was the first time I portrayed him as a sasquacth. (And later we became somewhat friendly.)

I remember Nelson made a similar proposal but that was a bit later than Moorlach although i didn’t know he did as well. Do you think Moorlach is vulnerable to Min ? I think Choi vs. Fox is definitely in play. The 2016 vs 2018 margin he won by shrunk quite dramatically.
*Indians? Which Indians? The Cleveland Indians? The Washington Redskins? The Fullerton Indians? The San Diego Aztecs? So, what is our problem. There is a certain endearment aspect which seems to be missing. They are also pulling down all the Father Serra statues, his street names as well as those of Christopher Columbus. There is little doubt that Alfred E. Newman and Monty Python will definitely upset some people! Yet, we are still very hopeful that their graven images will remain part of our sociological history. Having graduated from FUHS……as a Fullerton Indian in 1959…….we hardly think that we want to change the name of the mascot to The Meatballs! Maybe the Fullerton Summer Squash? The Fullerton Cheetahs perhaps?
Or maybe the Fullerton Hamsters? Heck, we have plenty of environmental friendly names to choose from….like the Fullerton Coy Fish? But moving on: How about the Washington Mohicans? Still offensive? OK, The Washington Red Hots then? Or maybe the Washington Ju Ju Beans? Or the Washington Asparagus? Moving on:
The San Diego Lettuce Growers….instead of the Axtecs? Or the San Diego Tortilla’s?
NO, then the San Diego Enchaladas or Burritos? We think the San Diego Empanadas
maybe even less offensive along with the San Diego Taco Chips? As far as our beloved Cleveland Indians is concerned…..that is a toughie. Maybe, the Cleveland Arm Wrestlers? Or maybe, the Cleveland Buck horn eyes lips or Lancers? All in all, we guess the push is on the rid ourselves of all offensive, bothersome or embarrassing names from our Public or Private Organizations. Taking away the Aunt Jemima Pancake mix, along with banning all the Disney Uncle Remus films may be going a bit too far….for some. So, we can call our beloved Fullerton Indians…..the Fullerton Cocoa Puffs and be done with it. We can also call the Washington Redskins; The Washington Facebooks? OK, then the Washington Mongols? The Washington Hell’s Angels then? We also can call the Cleveland Indians – The Cleveland Microsofts? Or better yet; The Cleveland Wolf Pack? What ever happened to “I can disagree with what you say; but will defend to the death your right to say it?” Try saying Abortion, Immigrants, KKK, Democrat or Republican in a crowded room and see what kind of response you get! The good news is that we have the “Mother of All Elections” coming November 3rd, a Tuesday.. and it will decide the fate of our world. No biggie….but remember this: If you do not vote in the coming election, you do not deserve to live on this planet. Vote whatever way you want, but vote by God!

Fullerton can follow the student vote at the University of Illinoise, Urbana-Champaign, which is also orange and blue (with white as a default), and change the image to the Kingfishers — the female of which looks like what you see in the graphic attacked to the article below.

*By the way, do not forget the Kansas City Chief’s! You know last years Super Bowl Champs. Better change their name too. Maybe the Kansas City Sacagewa’s….huh?
They are also under discussion, but mostly for their mascot. (“Chief” is used in non-ethnic terms, after all, and unlike the past name of future Washington Pachyderms if is not a pejorative term.)

*If you are in the US Army and call your Sgt. Chief….you will have your hat handed to you. You have be careful who you call Chief in many parts of our society. You are talking to a Native American and call them Chief…that could be considered an insult. They call themselves:”FBI” – Full Blooded Indians! There are approximately 280 major Indian Tribes here in the good old USA….and we have screwed over every one. The Seminoles still have not signed a “Peace Treaty” with the USA. That should tell you something. The BLM has yet to pay Native American Tribes the Oil Money Payments and for lands taken. Talk about pejorative?
My daughter is in the Navy. I believe that she calls her Chief Petty Officer “Chief,” as instructed, but I may be wrong about that. Anyway, that was the reference.
*Yeah, that is NAVY…..where they used to have scurvy too. But the point is that the “Marines call some of their Sgt’s. “Gunny” too – with no offense to anyone.. “Chief” in the Navy is a Rank….. “Chief Petty Officer” for example. However, if you call any other rank that ….you could be in real trouble. In the Army we have “Chief Warrant Officers”, which is a limited rank, mostly for Helicopter Pilots……who basically are never called anything but by their First Names or in formal situations “Warrant Officer so and so!” Anyway, ask around and you will get the idea.
