Rather than letting trolls, excitable boys and girls, and well-meaning or self-serving political operatives vandalize our Endorsement Pages for Republican and Democratic Orange County Central Committee positions, we’re inviting you to leave your comments on both here. Anything especially interesting, provocative (in the positive sense), or insightful will be ported there. The rest will be left here just for masochists who have forgotten their safe words. Comment away! Republican endorsements are now up. Democratic endorsements are also up.
About Greg Diamond
Somewhat verbose attorney, semi-disabled and semi-retired, residing in northwest Brea. Occasionally ran for office against jerks who otherwise would have gonr unopposed. Got 45% of the vote against Bob Huff for State Senate in 2012; Josh Newman then won the seat in 2016. In 2014 became the first attorney to challenge OCDA Tony Rackauckas since 2002; Todd Spitzer then won that seat in 2018. Every time he's run against some rotten incumbent, the *next* person to challenge them wins! He's OK with that.
Corrupt party hacks hate him. He's OK with that too.
He does advise some local campaigns informally and (so far) without compensation. (If that last bit changes, he will declare the interest.)
His daughter is a professional campaign treasurer. He doesn't usually know whom she and her firm represent. Whether they do so never influences his endorsements or coverage. (He does have his own strong opinions.) But when he does check campaign finance forms, he is often happily surprised to learn that good candidates he respects often DO hire her firm. (Maybe bad ones are scared off by his relationship with her, but they needn't be.)
Admittedly I’m a GOP, but I don’t agree with 68. What made you decide to go with Trevor O’Neil ? That guy along with Harry Sidhu went along with the Angels stadium deal which will likely be bogged down in courts. I’ve met Benjamin Yu and he’s a reasonable guy. I’d rather have Benjamin vs. Trevor.
I agree. I wasn’t sure how to help with these Republican endorsements. Like I told Greg, there are two main ways a local Republican can be horrible – either corrupt and part of the kleptocratic machine, or hateful to immigrants/gays/Muslims/women’s rights etc.
And it’s hard to find ones that are not horrible in at least one of those ways (Taits and Moorlachs being so rare), and some of them manage both. Trevor manages to be horrible in both ways.
We do need input from honest local Republicans like you, Alex!
Thanks Vern ! I go to the GOP Central Committee meetings and while I am a Republican, I don’t vote down the line so to speak. I think that every candidate from both parties deserves to at least be heard, and if there’s a moderate Democrat that presents a reasonable alternative, I certainly will consider them and have voted for Democrats in the past. Unfortunately the trend has been more and more left, so candidates like Joe Biden….moderate is becoming less and less of an option whom I would consider and am comfortable with as a GOP alternative. To be honest, some of the candidates you listed I didn’t know were running. I know maybe half of them, the other half I do not know or we have not met yet.
One candidate that I am looking at is Ashleigh Aitken. Admittedly I don’t much about her at all, but I haven’t read much yet.
I am familiar with Don Wagner though and the way you mentioned in #1 (kleptocratic machine) would fit him. He has been funded by developers in Irvine (I’ve read all the campaign disclosures) and the fact that he ran for mayor and took the position away from other candidates only to jump off and run for Board of Supervisors really rubbed me the wrong way. If he did not intend to actually serve the community he should not have ran. Katherine Daigle would have been a better alternative. At this point, I’d vote against Don due to his past unless something really comes out for Ashleigh.
Anyways, I’ll be closely following and if anything comes up, I’ll chime in. Cheers !
You are doing your politics right.
Why are you doing Republican “endorsements” at all?
Nobody in that party gives a rat’s ass what this blog thinks about their Central Committee members. It looks like an exercise in self-aggrandizement. Oh, right.
Focus.
We’re doing it to drive you mad. Madder.
You can look at the explanations in each, if you want, to see why we’re doing it. Basically, I’d like to get rid of some kleptocrats — or at least to remind people that that’s what they are. (We do get more Republican readers than just you, you know.) And, seriously, any chance to drag Brett Barbre and his like over the coals is a good one. Mm-kay?
I’m not at liberty to discuss some things that go on behind the scenes. If you want to vote for Benjamin Yu over Trevor, based on publicly available information, I can completely understand it.
“I’m not at liberty to discuss some things that go on behind the scenes.”
Aha!. The old “Norby is a wife-beater because Norby is a drunk, because somebody, somewhere told me, and if you make me I will reveal the truth which you won’t like and it will be your fault”
But you never will.
That cactus still hasn’t entirely worked its way out of you butt, huh?
If you go back and look at the interchange we had, I did not say that Norby had physically attacked his wife. I said that I had a report that there was a witness to something (I’ll describe it to you privately, if you’d like), and that I wanted to find the witness. Then you went bonkers in your “Mr. Peabody” persona and thought that with enough contempt, derision, and ridicule, you could back me down. But you couldn’t, and you ended up making matters worse for Norby.
I expect that that’s what kills you.
I’ll check in with my source to see if after all this time I can be released from attorney-client privilege for our consultation. If I can’t be, then you’ll have to live with it. But I sure don’t know why Norby would want me to spill it all here. Have you checked with him?
Yes, by all means check with your “source” and then follow through on your Big Threat. I’m still waiting after all these years.
You implied that Norby could very well be a wife beater because he was a known alcoholic and of course no one could disprove your negative one of the more chickenshit things I’ve seen.
And now the “missing witness.” How funny – a world where anything is possible so long as it fits your self-delusional hackery.
Finally follow through on just one of your weaselly little “don’t make me do it – you’ll be sorry” bluffs. I’ve checked with Norby. He says he has no idea who you are so do whatever you want.
Here’s an idea do one of your insufferable posts that no one can finish. Be sure to name names, now, and by all means let your chicken chips fall where they may.
But no one will be holding his breath.
I’ve spoken to the source. (Not a witness. You helped make my finding the actual witness impossible.) After the election, they and I were going to get together and see what I can reveal; I still plan to do so.
I will tell you that the source consulted with me under attorney-client privilege — I can’t say why, but it shouldn’t be hard to figure out, and no it was not his then-wife — and I can’t provide details unless I’m released. If you think that that’s a cop-out — well, I don’t think you’ve ever had to live by professional rules of conduct, so you wouldn’t understand.
Actually, you could be helpful in one way. Are Norby’s kids adults by now? If so, I’d like to ask them to confirm or deny certain things that I was told. If they aren’t adults, then I can’t without his permission.
I had more than one person tell me that Norby was an alcoholic; I forget whether it was you or Tait or someone else who said that he had a physical problem that made him sound like he was. I don’t recall if I asserted that he was, or just stated that if it was true that he was it could explain why he might attack his wife in a fit of rage. I’d stand by the latter statement — and if you disagree with it, you should check out some of the relevant academic literature.
Bottom line: my interest was finding out what had actually happened. That I had a client consulting with me about this does not mean that I believed them, but I did want to find out if it was true. You went after me in your Peabody persona and accused me of sifting through trash for dirt, as opposed to simply finding out whether allegations of concern to a client were true by locating a witness they said would have witnessed an altercation. Everybody I wanted to talk to shut up — and Gustavo hired someone to do an unflattering cartoon of me nude at a computer keyboard to illustrate Moxley’s hit job on me. So I went onto FFFF to try to get answers, got royally abused, and decided that I would take the punches and bring up what Norby was hiding — and I still believe he was hiding something — every time you guys went after Sharon. I would not have done that if you hadn’t provoked me into it — and my guess is that THAT is what you really can’t stand.
P.S. You know how you said that no one would be interested in my recommendations for Republican County Committee positions? As of today, it has gotten 1,857 hits, dumbshit. Hate makes you stupid.
I ran across this site while researching candidates and had read your news years ago. Sadly, your views have gotten worse. And smearing people seems to be endless.. with statements such as these, not just from Mr. Nelson: “either corrupt and part of the kleptocratic machine, or hateful to immigrants/gays/Muslims/women’s rights etc.”
In all my years on this earth the last what 23 or so I have seen and heard horrendous statements and smears made about people, I myself have been slandered but was lucky enough not to be in the public arena. I have lived here all my life and remember when our education system was only about “reading, writing, and arithmetic”, not indoctrination of students, and that includes college. It took the Progressives years of planning this and through the slow churn of life it has come to this. I returned to college in my 30’s and noticed some change there 1985, yet there was still interaction and discourse of views, without underlying threats to students. But when I returned in about 2005 I was astounded at the underlying threats from the professors and the indoctrination processes in full force I call the Obama era. I had heard from co-workers that had complained about it when they returned to college. And up until then How We agreed to disagree and still remained friends and associates. The exchanging of ideas and beliefs were learning experiences. Sadly, no longer, which can lead to the destruction of our Freedoms, and especially Freedom of thought.
Mr. Nelson interchanged a word ‘immigration’ which I highly suspect he/you known as “illegal” immigration (aliens). “Illegal” is a violation of the Rule of Law. I could delve into this more, remembering not only 9/11, but true history of what has occurred in our state and country beginning in the late 60’s on. It is not racism, it is about the Rule of Law, Protect and Save, etc. I’ve seen the deminishment of “Legal” immigrants, and have listened to their stories and beliefs, their years of waiting to get into our Country, their giving up their Professional positions, degrees, or not when they arrived here “legally”. Yes, they started over. Some from Romania, Vietnam, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Columbia, Mexico, Laos, India, Syria, Turkey, etc. And they are not happy regarding Illegal immigration. And that includes Mexican Americans. Are they racists, a resounding No, they are not, and neither are the large majority of people against “Illegal” immigration. This has a long history, and amnesty started with President Reagan. Giving those who had lived and worked here illegally for some years (about 20) amnesty. That slowly started the ‘downturn’ in our economy in every arena of our society. And more so for Americans in the work force. As it became the new political agenda, and ergo more amnesty to illegals and more downturn in every aspect of our economy. You see its not just Mexicans/South Americans that cross our borders, its terrorists that learned Spanish and look Spanish that have infiltrated our Country, along with others with criminal and political intent from many other countries, and sadly they are succeeding. Some posed as Afghan’s who were not, when there was a flood of Afghans being giving asylum during the Afghan wars and I could go on. How do I know this, I worked with law enforcement, and knew many in the law enforcement field, and worked in other arenas.
As for the gay community, there was/is the old adage “What they do in their own homes, is their business, as long as its not illegal. But don’t bring it/force it into our homes or upon our children.” And now in this era…….
As for Muslims, there are good and bad in every religion, but if you watch and research there are those that want to impose Sharia law in our Country, and they are far from ‘womens’ rights advocates. If you keep up with what has been happening in Europe you would understand the fear some have, knowing in their hearts not all Muslims are this way, and as with religions some misinterpret the bible and koran to fit their agenda.
Women’s rights is a no brainer, as you really mean abortion rights. Which has nothing to do with hate. It’s a difference in Belief system, whether your religious or not. But, its also a medical decision which can have profound physical and psychological problems, especially on our young, just as birth control can have physical problems for young women. And don’t forget It also affects the men involved who would be potential fathers, who have no say in the matter. What about their rights.
Interesting stuff, interesting stuff…
This is just a guess on my part, but am I correct that you will not be voting in the *Democratic* primary?
Mr. Diamond I choose whom I feel is best qualified or who best represents the beliefs of Common Sense, who will uphold our Constitution and Bill of Rights our forefathers, friends, and family fought for, who may or may not be career politicians. Who may just be Mr or Mrs Smith and maybe even like Jimmy Stewart in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington movie, an Idealist I admit. My Father was a Republican and my Mother a Democrat so there were debates at our dining table. They did not indoctrinate us into either party, they believed in those days of freedom of choice for their children when they became adults. As I also did with my children.
My mother was a life long Democrat (old Democrat party) until her 80’s, the Democratic Party had completely changed in her lifetime, so she became a Republican, although she had other choices. She had done this upon listening to the candidate for President, Obama. She stated to me while listening to him, Obama, on Tv that if he got elected she no longer wanted to live. She saw what others did not see, and it had nothing to do with his color, and I was dismayed at her statement. She passed on in June of 2009.
I have voted for Democrats, Republicans, and Libertarians. Sadly, the Democrats I voted for were disappointing to say the least. except one. In the old days Dems did not always vote straight party line, here in Calif or in Congress, now it has become expedient to do so, rather then truly listen to their constituents, who are not just democrats, but all in their community. Instead they listen to Heads of the Democratic party, lobbyists, and small groups rather then the majority. Why, I wonder, truly I do…..and yes some other politicians seem to be doing the same. And I will not vote for either that vote straight party line, which shows they are weak in character, morals, and ethics, that have done harm to Good People and are turning our Country Topsy Turvey.
Is there an answer to my simple question buried somewhere in that thicket?
I gave you an answer in the thicket, sadly you do not see, more so did not comprehend.
Never heard of such a thing
Where does “L. Griffith live that gay people are forcing their way into his/her home?
She (I’m guessing “she”) said this:
It’s sort of implicit in the contrast created by the last sentence, but I agree that it is not that clear.
It seems quite clear and in today’s age it would be called more Libertarian, What you do in your home is your business, as long as its not illegal, but don’t bring it/force it into our homes or upon our children.
If you read my March 3rd statement especially 2nd paragraph maybe it would become more clear.
How do you not understand?
Again, sadly you do not comprehend.
Maybe YOU don’t communicate clearly. You obviously love to write really long comments. Break it down.
Who, what, where, did any gay person EVER force their way into your home or “upon our children”.*
* People who “force themselves upon children” are PEDOPHILES not gay.
Walking for Andy Thorburn this past week in Irvine, I met an 80-year old Jewish Democrat named Davida (front yard full of Katrina Foley signs, and a Bernie supporter) who’d been politically active in Irvine since the 80’s and wanted to tell me some stories of the old days there. She remembers when the first openly gay couple moved into her neighborhood and how outraged and terrified her Republican neighbors were. She finally asked them, “What are you afraid of, they’ll break into your house and re-decorate it?”
I guess that’s back when Christina Shea was riding that horse.
On a similar theme, there’s this 2005 classic from the Onion: https://www.theonion.com/why-do-all-these-homosexuals-keep-sucking-my-cock-1819584210
Ha ha.
And regarding L.G.’s comment closer about “the men” who would be “potential fathers” and “who have no say in the matter” and “what about their rights”?
They have the “right” to use birth control, get a vasectomy or practice abstinence among other choices.
Shouldn’t “the men” be taking some responsibility for themselves? Are they fornication victims? If a man doesn’t want kids he can wear a condom. Make smart choices.Take major precautions. Personal accountability. It’s for BOTH sexes! Who knew?
Problem solved as “potential fathers.”
Still waiting for: Time, date, details of alleged gay home invasion. Come on. ONE gay person who “forced their way into” your home…
You took my statement literally, which was obvious in my writing not meant literally, rather then the purposeful Indoctrination that is happening in today’s day and age. And if you don’t understand then your blinders are still on.
As for your statements about men, is not in context with my statement: “Women’s rights is a no brainer, as you really mean abortion rights. What about their rights.”
“potential fathers” as problem not solved as you had stated, as the abortion of the fetus/child is at hand. We demand men to take responsibility for their actions/involvement, but now they are left out and again responsibilities put upon the women.
It seems The Age Of Reason is passed.
Nothing was obvious in your writing. Wasn’t going to point out that it’s pretty poor. But you do not seem to mind insulting people do you? So – goose/gander.
If men used birth control ALL the time and/or practiced abstinence, had vasectomy etc. they could NOT get women pregnant. No pregnancy? No abortion. Is that really something you never learned? Or cannot understand? They are (with RARE exception) 100% in control of fathering children. The more important that is to them the more careful they should be!
End of pity, concern, worry about their plight in this regard.
Instead of telling someone they “have blinders on”. EXPLAIN yourself clearly. How does, “indoctrination” make a person gay? Really. PLEASE explain that concept. And again; You claimed this was happening BY FORCE in “Our homes” and “on our children”. That has never happened to my family or any family I have ever known.
So the question remains WHO is forcing their way into YOUR home and on your child and turning your family gay? PLEASE just one name. One person. Did you call the police? Are you all gay now?
Lastly. GAY PEOPLE are not PEDOPHILES. Something else you don’t seem to ever have learned. That is an AWFUL accusation.
IF you believe in “the age of reason”. Please explain this completely un backed by any evidence claims. You won’t. Because you can’t.
As I expressed to Mr. Diamond I suggest you reread my March 3rd statement, especially the 2nd paragraph. And yes I can prove it, as I have lived through it in my lifetime, and there are many books, papers, videos, commentaries, throughout the years that prove it, so do some research. I’ve done mine besides my life events.
Just to be clear on something: you don’t have intense and intrusive feelings of attraction towards other men that you’re trying to suppress, right?
Do you?
You’re appreciated!
So… Again.You won’t. Because you can’t.
Your prior comments are really, really lengthy. Yet you won’t type one name? Of one single gay person who has “forced their way into your home and onto your children”?
What exactly did “they” “bring” into your home? And why aren’t you in control of your own home and what is “brought” in? And WHO is “they”? Still doesn’t add up. AT ALL. Just totally vague.
Now you claim it wasn’t “literal”. Okay. Then explain what exactly you DID mean? Those are strong words. Accusatory too.So what did you “not literally” mean? Why exactly are you inditing gay people with these highly negative and prejudicial statements? These inflammatory declarations were made for reason. What was your motivation?
You could have typed two words. And given ONE name. But You CAN’T.
You could have typed ONE book title. So much less effort then your mammoth comments prior. But you didn’t. Because you CAN’T.
One credible book. By a credible author that backs your original now “non literal” claim.
Commentary? Videos? Papers? By whom? People like you? Who just make up outrageous stories with ZERO to back it up? You know “commentary” isn’t science, right? It’s just an opinion. People offer commentary that big foot exists. That doesn’t make it so. Nor do, “books, papers, videos” that are not based in facts.
You made the claim. The burden of proof is on you.
Now you want the readers of your comments to “research” an experience that you assert happened to you personally? That doesn’t even make sense.
You think people can google, “L.Griffith gay people forcing their way into her house and onto her children” and your story will pop up?
You imply gay people are pedophiles. That is very well researched aspersion.
The widely accepted conclusion? Absolutely evil, crap lie. Shame on you for trying to perpetuate something so untrue. Why would you do that? To spread fear? Hatred of gay people?
GUARANTEE you that no gay people what so ever are even thinking about you. Or your kids. Or trying to “bring/force it (whatever “it” is – that you are imagining) into (y)our homes”.
If you COULD prove it. You WOULD prove it. That is also guaranteed.
Where is it in any of my comments did I say gay people are pedophiles? You inserted that and other items I did not state, and oddly focusing on that subject alone. Your attempts at trying to shame me and alter what l had written trying to obviate your way is not working. I suggest you take time away from responding, a few days clearing your mind, then reread my comments vs yours and your accusations and hateful retorics.
You’re appreciated!
Nah. Gonna do what I want.
YOU wrote about gay people . “But don’t bring it/force it into our homes or upon our children.” YOU wrote that. Please explain what “it” is? And what you believe that specifically gay people want to force on your children.
You wrote a very lengthy not very clear comment. In it YOU brought up:
“illegal aliens”
“Muslims”
“The gay community”
“Women” (in the context of men’s rights/abortion)
“Barack Obama” *
ALL the greatest hits. No one else was writing about any of that here. It is not what the post is about. It is what is on YOUR mind. Probably ALL of the time.
And you did not have any thing particularly positive to say about any of your chosen topics.
STILL won’t back up any of it with fact. You missed yet another opportunity to offer, “proof” in your newest comments. Because you CAN’T.
Do I think you are a homophobic closet case with a grudge against: Women, Muslims, Barack Obama, and “Illegal aliens”?
I mean…It’s not out of the question.
I will now give you unsolicited advise in return:
Lighten up. None of the people that you are so concerned about and down on are even thinking about you. AT ALL.
*That tidbit was also VERY weird. Sad. But very weird. When one writes, “It’s not about race” It’s about race. Because that qualifier was totally unnecessary.
