Among the people I’ve never heard of, the statement by Fred Jung was really pretty compelling. I asked around and people tell me he’s a registered Democrat who lives in District 1 – Fitzgerald’s district.
Omar Siddiqui, who ran for CA-48, is also really impressive.
Ryan would be a smart choice for Democrats who want to put the best possible Republican in a position to win a district that will almost surely go Republican. But that involves strategy and tactics, which have been disfavored by DPOC.
I was confused – I guess Omar moved? (And wouldn’t that make him – gasp – a Fullerton Carpetbagger?)
Absolute worst (of the ones I know) – Larry Bennett, and Jan Flory (despite her goodness on Poseidon – Bruce is doing just as good)
Absolute best, given that Jane Rands hasn’t applied – our pal RYAN! But would this mean he can’t write for us? I don’t think it should.
You don’t have to live in a Congressional district to run for it — witness Andy Thorburn, who was just east of Yorba Linda but therefore outside of the district. So the possibilities are that (1) he always lived in Fullerton (and perhaps has two actual residence from which he can pick his domicile), (2) he used to live outside of Fullerton but has moved here (hopefully not for a longshot at a City Council appointment), or (3) he still lives outside of the district and doesn’t know that he shouldn’t have applied for this position. I suspect that it’s the first of these.
It’s not encouraging that all of this is a mystery.
Maybe invite him here to explain!
I’m not saying that I endorse Ryan — but I will say that for both Democrats and Republicans, as well as independents who want good government, Ryan would be the wisest choice, given (1) his residence in an overwhelmingly Republican district and (2) his pretty fearless devotion to good governance.
(Ryan, this post will return to the top spot right after ADEMs conclude on Sunday. Meanwhile, commenting in it should keep it very visible.)
I had a nice chat with Zahra at the AD-69 caucus. Came away from it a lot more favorably disposed towards him.
Yeah, he’s very likable. I talked up Ryan to him at ADEMS Saturday.
Ahmad Zahra was the representative for my district until we were redistricted. He is a wonderful representative: intelligent, responsive, well informed, and willing to fight the good fight. If he prevails in area 5 and we in district 3 are lucky enough to elect Shana Charles, we will be fortunate, indeed.
