Latest in a series … that will likely be paying for a loooooong time….
Why do we keep covering the Homeless Protests in Anaheim instead of the fine work that your group is doing? Well, JUST LOOK AT HOW ACTIVE THEY ARE! If you want this sort of coverage, do as much as they’re doing! (And it wouldn’t hurt for you to have someone in your group, organization, claque, faction, or tendency pitch in to write about it, too.)
(Oh — and a special call-out to the hilarious anonymous commenters at the Cunningblog and Chumley’s Pleasure Palace: No, I’m NOT going to be there personally! This is what I can afford to do, timewise and other business-wise (including child-care), right now — and I am glad to help out how I can. If you truly think that this makes me a hypocrite, try saying so under your own name! Otherwise, the irony makes you look even stupider than usual!)
We may well add to this — updates will go above — but for now THIS IS your Weekend Open Thread. Talk about this, or whatever else you’d like, within reasonable bounds of decency, decorum, and discretion.
About Greg Diamond
Somewhat verbose attorney, semi-disabled and semi-retired, residing in northwest Brea. Occasionally ran for office against jerks who otherwise would have gonr unopposed. Got 45% of the vote against Bob Huff for State Senate in 2012; Josh Newman then won the seat in 2016. In 2014 became the first attorney to challenge OCDA Tony Rackauckas since 2002; Todd Spitzer then won that seat in 2018. Every time he's run against some rotten incumbent, the *next* person to challenge them wins! He's OK with that.
Corrupt party hacks hate him. He's OK with that too.
He does advise some local campaigns informally and (so far) without compensation. (If that last bit changes, he will declare the interest.)
His daughter is a professional campaign treasurer. He doesn't usually know whom she and her firm represent. Whether they do so never influences his endorsements or coverage. (He does have his own strong opinions.) But when he does check campaign finance forms, he is often happily surprised to learn that good candidates he respects often DO hire her firm. (Maybe bad ones are scared off by his relationship with her, but they needn't be.)
Stop pushing people out of the riverbed, if you don’t want them start staying in the streets, That will be their last option, We need outdoor living like Alfresco gardens concept for those waiting for housing, because housing won’t come soon enough.

*People want “quick fixes” in this litigation prone society. So here goes: (1) Drug Test every homeless person you find on the street. If they are over proscribed or doing illegal drugs put them into hospice care. If not, find them a place to live. If they refuse living under county auspices…….ship them to Tuscon and have Retired Sheriff Joe Arpaio, feed, cloth and take care of their medical needs. Heck, according to the county, the OC only has 5100 homeless…..the county needs to put ads in all the tax bills and offer them rebates for taking in a homeless person. Ya gotta love those those giving and caring tax paying land owners ..eh?
The situation at the riverbed is out of control. SOMEBODY needs to take a leadership and get moving.
1) Remove/Place ANY AND ALL families with minor children. If they refuse put the kid in Orangewood.
2) Send in LE. Search for drugs and weapons. Arrest and cite as appropriate. Confiscate identifiable stolen items. Explain to the denizens that lawlessness will not be tolerated.
3) Imediatly bring temporary facilities (toilets and if feasable showers). And social services (ie. The bus station) and begin “triage” placements.
4) Repeat item 2.
5) Establish short term / mid term alliances with qualified organizations (UCI MED / MBKU / DENTAL SCHOOLS / Catholic Charities / Salvation Army).
Only then can we begin to look at long term solutions.
There are many ideas out there. One needs to be identified as feasable.
*Your Solutions are Way too reasonable for this Board of Supervisors……Hal…
*OK….here goes the Balloon: 2018 will be the tale of the tape for the Democrats in OC and the Nation. They better be Professional, Gun Friendly (with the exception of asking
for Manddatory Drug Testing for all Purchases and Transfers) and they all better be ready to join hands in unity after the Primary. If the Dems can’t take out 4 of the 6 Congressional seats …..we will have to go to our bench and bring back from the grave Soupy Sales…… “Little Mimi”, “The Red Menace” and “Mr., I Forget”…..are easy targets even for an aspiring School Board Candidate.
Don’t forget Snidely Whiplash!
So here is an interesting thought. Tomorrow night Lucille has once again brought back the camping ban ordinance, NOT to make changes to it, but to put Jose into a corner for not making changes to it. But here is the thing;
IF the City stopped enforcing the camping ban, and essentially turned a blind eye to private citizens taking for their own private use pieces of public land that then removes that public resource from public use, are those elected leaders participating in a gift of public funds or failing to enforce a theft of public resources? Just a question on process, I have no answers over here.
*Dear Cynthia……Asset Forfeitures…..Eminent Domain………Tax Liens…..and Civil Penalties for Treaspassing…..are all laws presently on the books…..which address your dire concerns of Homeless Folks sleeping on Park Benches…… Look at it this way……bring the Andy Gumps Toilets……bring the Medical Mobile Trucks to assess the threats to Public Safety from disease and addictions…..bring Police oversight to make sure personal threats and abuse are not going on for underage homeless or any children. Get General Services to clean up the poop on the walls and grounds around the Boards of Supervisors Buildings……yep, lots to concentrate on which has absolutely nothing to do with allowing Civilians Squatters rights on Riverbed land….lots!!
“Fun Fact” from yesterdays OCR – The OCTA is killing its #430 ARTIC-to-Resort route in October due to LOW RIDERSHIP. Anyone want to start a pool how fast (logic and reality be damned) this gets spun into a new request for a Streetcar or other City replacement ?
About two seconds.
10,000 people a day want that streetcar.
*Every once in a while…”someone” will listen and actually understand that all these routes need to be “seasonal”. Summer, Winter, Spring and Fall are all seasons……..perhaps they don’t teach these things in our modern schooling…and even Holidays…… Perhaps, they need an eight week course in how to read a Catholic calendar….or a Buddist 10,000 year calendar then?
Your Tax Dollars at….WTF ???? Dept.-

*We killed the Anaheim Light Rail deal several years ago…..diminished the route to under 3 miles and the bean counters figured it wasn’t worth the trouble. But then unless you have constant vigilance…….those Public Consultant Vampires have a way of returning from the dead.
So, What’s that you say, the weekend’s too boring and nothing’s going on ? Well, you’re just looking in the wrong places !
