dont feed the homeless 2

ANOTHER COOL AND WORTHY EVENT FROM FULLERTON IMPRESARIO AND RABBLEROUSER STEFAN “BAX” BAXTER AND FRIENDS:

Why Ice Cream? We will be serving up ice cream and root beer floats to local homeless, and anyone else who cares to partake, to bring attention to the latest cold-hearted attempts by Chief Dan Hughes and his men at Fulleton PD to drive the homeless out of town.

We hope that you will be as offended as we are that, just a few steps from the spot that up to six Fullerton police officers beat an unarmed Kelly Thomas to death, five years later officers wearing the same uniform are preventing local churches and other good Sumaritans from feeding the homeless.

VOLUNTEERS AND DONATIONS WELCOME.
PLEASE NOTE: FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED.
WE ARE NOT ASKING THE CITY FOR PERMISSION AND WE WILL NOT HAVE A PERMIT.
THE IMPULSE TO HELP OTHERS SHOULD NOT REQUIRE GOVERNMENT APPROVAL.

dont feed the homeless 3

Co-host Destiny writes:

Over the last few weeks good-hearted people have been stopped and turned away by police from giving and serving the homeless hot meals. As if their situation didn’t suck enough. So we are protesting in the silliest way possible: by offering an ice cream social for the homeless and their supporters. On Memorial Day we will be serving ice cream as cold as Dan Hughes supposed heart.

PLEASE JOIN US. WE NEED YOU.

This is not only a comment on how ridiculous it is to not be able to help our fellow humans by providing them with warm, (hopefully) delicious meals, but also by demanding that if the police want to make their circumstances even more uncomfortable then the city needs to speed up the process of getting the shelter (which has been approved) UP and RUNNING. Our homeless do not want to be homeless. Let’s get them the resources they need to get off the streets and be safe in better housing. In the meantime, however, good deeds and donations should NEVER be stopped.

If you want to help by bringing ice cream, helping us with costs, or helping us serve the homeless and surrounding public, please contact me directly. it would be GREATLY appreciated by all involved.

Baxter adds this video and commentary:

I’m hoping this post convinces a few of you to come, especially those of you who have a burden because you don’t live in Fullerton.  I want you to think back about how you felt when you were taught, you read, or you watched something portraying an injustice.  Did you think to yourself that you would have never stood by as Native Americans, as Jews, as African Americans in the south, were mistreated?  When a minority group was looked upon as less than human, and were singled out as the cause for problems in the community?

Well, that shit is still happening, but it’s not based on race or religion, it’s based on economic standing.  The video above says it all. “Fuck The Poor.”   Many are quick to take offense at something, it bothers their delicate sensibilities, but when called upon to do something, something which may requires them to perhaps even face those who are doing the abusing, they are mostly silent.  And if my depiction of our chief of police as an ice cream cone offended you, remember that this man made $371,000 last year and he has ordered his officers to prevent people who made nothing last year from eating.  There is a special circle in Dante’s Hell reserved for people like this, and being an ice cream cone is the least of it.

In Fullerton it is a crime to be homeless.  Falling asleep while outside is a misdemeanor camping ticket and in 3 months in 2013 alone 87 of these were handed out (the last data FPD has shared on the subject.)  There is no shelter, there are no public restrooms, benches have been removed and now we are told that we are not allowed to bring “them” food.  Fuck that.  This is not how we treat humans.  Many of the same businesses that are the cause of most of the public urinations, fights and damage in down town, by their drunken patrons, are the businesses which are pressuring the police to flush out the homeless.

Your attendance tomorrow could make the Chief of Police and City Manager reconsider their wrong headed decision. Being homeless is not a crime, but not giving a shit about them is a sin.

dont feed the homeless free ice cream

This would be your late, holiday-weekend Open Thread.  Aside from having ice cream in Fullerton, feel free to weigh in on any topic you like, within broad bounds of decency and discretion!  GO!!!
