Well, all we know FOR SURE is that she’s gonna make a “significant political announcement,” but I think we all know what that’s gonna be. She told me a few months ago she was “really, seriously” thinking of running for the Barbara Boxer’s old Senate seat next year. And she’s been on Facebook with her consultant Christopher Townsend coyly hinting at the same thing. So the Orange Juice Blog is gonna go out on a very short limb here and be the first to announce – Loretta Sanchez is running for U.S. Senate.
If this “significant political announcement” is something different I will apologize and eat my hat.
Does she really think she can beat the beloved AG Kamala Harris? Or is she just tired of commuting to Washington? She’s been there nearly as long as Crazy Dana Rohrabacher. (And btw thanks to both of them for opposting TPP Fast Track.)
The most interesting question to us local political junkies is – who will take her place in Congress? Tom Daly? Lou Correa? Jose Solorio? Some Santa Ana Councilperson? Sharon Quirk-Silva who told me two years ago she wouldn’t even move the few blocks necessary to do such a thing, but whom I would forgive if she did? The seat seems safe for a Democrat – especially a Democrat with Loretta’s endorsement – especially a latino, latina, or “latina” Democrat.
Well I’d better get this out before Pedroza beats me. Not much to the “press release” :
Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez to make a significant political announcement.
Date: Thursday, May 14th, 2O15
Time: 11:OO AM
Where: Santa Ana Train Station
1OOO East Santa Ana Blvd.

PS. Damn, now I see Matt Coker beat me by an hour! Oh well, at least it wasn’t Pedroza.
*
UPDATE
Made the event, and we are the first with video up!
She had better pack an umbrella! Rain forecast for manana.
Plus there is no residency requirement for congress is there? So SQS need not move. The idea of ANY Santa Ana council member moving on to congress is frightening (that includes Jose, Claudia and Lou)!
The district would be better served with Janet Ngyuen or Van Tran then any of the aforementioned. That’s how STRONGLY this latino democrat feels about that. Hell recruit the dude from Tustin.
Carlos don’t vote.
Clearly you do not follow Santa Ana politics. Its an abortion over here.
One MORE thing that ARTIC won’t be used for!
The list is ever growing!
Who wants to be associated with a $200,000,000 fiasco?
Lou Correa
And Correa is indeed already in:
http://www.loucorrea.com/so/0KrJui_c#/main
And his media contact is … Arianna Barrios?
As in “technically NPP but de facto Republican” Rancho Santiago Community College District Trustee Arianna Barrios?
As in KRIS MURRAY’S PAID AIDE Arianna Barrios?
As in “wife of Brian Lochrie, business associate of long-time Steve Sheldon patron Roger Faubel, with whom she took over Faubel’s business when he left it” Arianna Barrios?
Well! How … um, bipartisan of him!
Arianna is married to Brian? I’d missed that part. But Arianna registered Poseidon’s astroturf group’s website, OCWise. And Brian is their official consultant.
Funny fact – our friend Matt Southgate, the zany Santa Ana artist and Occupier, is Arianna’s cousin.
I found it in the OJB archives. So, if it’s wrong, I blame you!
Yes, Roger Faubel confirmed to me Thursday night that his old colleague Brian is married to his boss Arianna. I probably already knew that at one point, but the vision of two lobbyists bouncing around in bed is one that I may understandably dislodge from my head.
If anyone is going there, will they ask her about her support of the NDAA that gave the NSA carte blanche for domestic eavesdropping? I have a schedule conflict or I would!
I didn’t do that, but I did thank her for opposing TPP and Fast Track, and asked her to give her reasons for that opposition, and she answered well.
Vern: “Well I’d better get this out before Pedroza beats me.”
LOC beat you by a day Vern. Are you going to be there? I will be there since the train station is only a 9 iron shot from my shop. I will buy you that lunch I owe you at La Chiquita if you show.
LOC don’t count, I’m talking about blogs people look at.
What is LOC?
Hint: They channel Orange County’s right-wing noise machine.
You mean Chimpanzeeski has a blog? Too funny! I guess that’s why he pretends he’s a “journalist.”
AWARD winning!
Award? Yeah, right. When did anybody start handing out awards to chickenshit internet bullies?
Obviously, sir, you haven’t heard of the Orange County Press Club.
God, Vern, you made me look it up. A bunch of former local “reporters” who now work as PR flacks for government agencies.
LOC = http://www.theliberaloc.com/
Thanks for the great lunch at La Chiquita. In case nobody remembers, this goes back to a bet from 2008 – Skally / Junior was SURE Obama wouldn’t get the Presidency.
*We love Loretta, but she will not beat Kamala.. Lou has a job now with Chapman and
doesn’t feel in the mood to play around…..going up and down the state…..while Kamala
just sits tight in Sacramento and builds her campaign funds. Bill Jones is busy flying from one watershed to the next, making sure his farm crops are getting watered, so we doubt there will be any serious Republican opposition…..unless of course Jon Fleischman throws his hat into the ring. Can’t wait however to see the list of endorsements……that should reall be entertaining.
“Lou has a job now with Chapman ..”
Lou is not directly employed by California State University at Fullerton – he is a “consultant” – he is available to run for Loretta’s seat.
*Rightly stand corrected Skally…..but no matter, Lou is cool and doesn’t strike with catlike reflexes often. We predict he will remain calm along with our dear dear friend Joe Dunn and not throw his tennis shoe into the race. Don’t count your chickens, Loretta may win her district and LInda’s, but will not take the Republican votes away from Kamala. She has the NO CAL vote on both sides of the aisle. Who are the Republicans going to put up is the important swing vote item…but only for SO CAL. No, Kamala is still a fresher Daisy in the pot..and that always sells, when they have charisma. Her handlers will have to brief her on the International Issues, but she should be superior to Loretta with a more Progressive Agenda. Loretta will have to get Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren to come out and stump for her, but we are not sure …..even that could turn the tide. DJB will undoubtedly endorse Kamala and the rest will be history.
*Being corrected twice in one day….is tough to take. Anyway, our bud Lou has caste his fate to the wind…… Lou has a three wins and one loss record going against Mann Packeow…..or Merriweather….or Monte Python….. Lou will not beat either Kamala or Loretta…….but it is guaranteed to take votes away from Loretta.
Ron, he’s running for LORETTA’S HOUSE SEAT, not for U.S. Senate.
*It’s an Emily Latell moment….however, since Loretta is up for re-election on November 8th, 2016…….will she run for both seats? Can she run for both seats? It all sounds fine if Kamala pulls out of the race and leaves Loretta to run against the designated Republican alone. We doubt that will happen. So now Lou runs for Loretta’s spot, however – there may well be an Asian running for that seat as well – which would make it no easy run for Lou. Interesting….to be sure.
She can run for her current seat if she has not yet officially filed to run for Senate and if she files by the deadline before the primary, probably around the second week in March. And then Lou Correa will have some words for her, words like “I’m running anyway.”
Martin Wisckol’s report is here:
http://www.ocregister.com/articles/sanchez-661719-senate-race.html
I was there, my video will be up shortly.
As in now.
“Sanchez’s announcement also sets off a scramble among potential candidates to fill her current seat. Democrats said to be considering a bid include former state Sen. Lou Correa, Anaheim Councilman Jordan Brandman, former and Rancho Santiago Community College District trustee Claudia Alvarez. All three were hand for Sanchez’s event.”
“Joe Dunn, you are urgently needed on Line 3. Joe Dunn, Line 3.”
Where can I go to put money on Janet Nguyen parachuting into the race — she has a free ride in 2016 and lots of time for population trends to change in Santa Ana and Anaheim, with a proper nudge — and winning?
Joe Dunn is a non-entity.
She will be crushed. And good riddance.
Poor Lou. Wasn’t Solorio available for another ass kicking?
*”Cause girls just wanna have funnun….” said Cyndi Lauper
more like “fuhh-unnn…”
Are you kidding me??? … The 46th Congressional Dostrict is 60% Latino – Lou has this one in the bag!!
Lou couldn’t beat a nobody named Andrew Do. Solorio couldn’t beat an illiterate grifter named Janet Nguyen.
Carlos don’t vote.
The district is 66% Latino – there will enough of the Carlos vote to carry Lou.
Well, that certainly depends on both who shows up to vote and on how well Lou’s appeal to Latinos — instead of to old male Republicans like you — compares to Loretta’s.
That’s ageist.
I used to like Correa. Now I see that he generally appeals to the Lawn Order crowd. He has no courage and no conviction.
However, now that Lou is in bed with PringleCorp it will be fun to watch the Kleptoblog sing his praises and a “pro-business” Democrat.
P.S. I haven’t voted for a Republican in years.
Who is the guy in the blue shirt with the nineties goatee HOGGING up the video?
WHOEVER he was, he was really PISSED at another cameraman/journalist for bringing his camera without being paid for it by that guy’s boss. At first the second guy thought he was joking. But he went on and on about it. “You are setting a bad precedent. Don’t bring your expensive shit for free! Your paper is not gonna pay for it if it gets broken!” etc etc…
$10 – Lou to win
What odds?
I don’t see any scenario in which Lou doesn’t win this one walking away.
Wow, really? OK, I say to you with even more fervor that to Carl: what odds?
*No one is answering the question: Will Loretta run for both seats at the same time?
If she doesn’t, she could lose the Senate seat and be out completely. Lou running
for Loretta’s Congressional seat …..won’t happen if Loretta loses the US Senate seat
and wins back her Congressional seat. This is getting too Fellini for words isn’t it?
Please refer to my comment from 11:00 p.m. last night. No she cannot. By March 10, 2016 or so, she would legally have to choose one race or the other, if she has kept her options open until then. Her switching races that late, though, would create chaos.
If you’re asking whether she can campaign (rather than legally file for) both races at the same time: not unless she is a worse idiot than even her critics allege. Who would support her from Senate if she kept on looking at the route to the exit?
Because it is a silly question.
I get the sense some people are underwhelmed by Loretta’s candidacy. I guess that there remains the chance this shakes things up even worse for the recent “retraction” for OC Democrats.
What do you mean by “the recent retraction”? You mean the losses by Correa, Solorio, and in HB and Irvine?
Hey, if Correa gets to Congress, he’ll be fine with the rest of the “retraction.”
Yeah. Thats what I was thinking. I am not tied into HB. I know about Irvine because of you the Park debacle. I view Solorio and Correa’s losses as HUGE defeats that never should have happened. I worry that those two specifically foreshadow the future.
Janet and Do exposed a huge weakness in the Democrats. It is more than ironic that that very vulnerability is something they have been bragging and blathering about for years.
In simple terms:A large Latino electorate is only an advantage if they come out to vote!
*A ditto here for Brian’s appraisal. Lou should have never lost to Do. Why? Additionally, who will be facing him? Congress is a biggie here in the OC and don’t forget that Loretta followed Dornan and Chis Cox and only won because Dornan had served 18 years and the “smoke filled room guys” wanted him out. It was a dirty election in every respect, but Loretta has accounted for herself fine enough to get her sister elected and has a pretty tight grip on the issues. That may in fact hurt her against Kamilla, who can go in any direction. The lack of a long term track record can work in your favor sometimes. If Loretta doesn’t campaign for her Congressional seat….she is taking one heck of a chance. Unless Hillary comes riding to her rescue…as we said before, it will all boil down to endorsements: DJB, Boxer, Feinstein and maybe some other Senators around the country. This is going to be a very expensive campaign and whoever the Republicans put up will only complicate the process. So, back to Lou……he will have to be very strong and not ambivalent….on immigration, TPP and a variety of other issues. Lou would have been a great Supervisor on a 2nd run……but that dream is over. Can he win without declaring full amnesty and an immediate rush to citizenship for all Hispanics? As we said: Complicated.
*One more thing….unless Lou goes full bore for GMO labeling, Pesticides in the food regulation and the reduction of ethanol in our gas……that will cost him another 13 points to start with.
Yep. The DPOC has wanted to support Democrats who brag of their lack of fealty to distinctive Latino interests (including income- and class-related ones), suggesting that all they really want is safe streets, good schools, and union jobs. When a Julio Perez or a Dr. Jose Moreno come along, the power Democrats — who used to have to work outside of DPOC but now I’m not even sure that they need to — generally do what they can to stop them. And then they pretend to be shocked at low Latino turnout. Or maybe some of them really are that stupid and clueless.
Most Democrats with clout would rather lose to a Republican than let a leftist Latino Democrat win. Brandman and Correa’s 11th-hour support for two corrupt Republicans running against Moreno tells the story nicely.
The 46th Congressional District –
67% Hispanic
11% Asian
2% Black
That leaves at the most 20% non-Hispanic white (Daly is out)
How do you figure that a non-Hispanic is going to take that seat?
Look up the figures for the 69th Assembly District, you yutz, and explain why Tom Daly occupies it.
Brandman could win it. Hell, with the unions behind her, even Murray could win it from outside of the district, so long as the Democrats don’t give Latinos someone they would want to come out for. Can Correa attract them with his pro-prison guard, pro-cop, pro-insurance company, pro-hospital, anti-single payer, etc. position? Maybe enough to beat Murray — but enough to beat Brandman?
Correa could end up being used and dumped by Labor and Pringle, much like Solorio did with Michele Martinez in favor of Daly in June 2012.
Yutz yourself –
’06 – ’08 – ’10 The hispanic guy – 65% minimum in 69th
No viable Hispanic in ’12 & ’14 in 69th
Correa is viable – the seat is Correa’s for the taking.
“No viable Hispanic in ’12 & ’14 in 69th.”
Just saw this. Did you spend the run-up to the 2012 primary in a stupor? (I mean, more so than usual.)
Tom Daly occupies it because of the open primary and a fake candidate with a Latino name. Not to say that Jose Moreno couldn’t be dragooned into service, yet again, even as a Democrat. Or some guy named Leo Correa, or Lew Correa, Or Les Correa.
Correa is a rotten campaigner. Among his victories was the awful campaign of 2006 when he almost lost to a carpetbagging horror named Lynn Daucher. Sure, he has the name, and frontrunner status.
As an aside I will take odds that Sanchez quits before filing time next year and decides to keep the job she already has.
“As an aside I will take odds that Sanchez quits before filing time next year and decides to keep the job she already has.” say DZ..
Agreed! Just smokin out the competition…..maybe?
$5 on Eastman.
I don’t think that Eastman would beat Correa. Now if she were running against Julio Perez or Dr. Moreno, she might do well among some of DPOC and DFOC leaders….
The Republicans have to run someone, right?
Someone named Jose Moreno would be my guess.
Or Leo Correa.

Ignorant, rude, tone deaf. Say goodnight, idiot.
Her remarks are in the front page of the UK Guardian….Harris, who is Indian American, said: “There is no place for that in our public discourse.”
D’oh! Live by the silly, die by the silly.
Plus what is it 1970? She really doesn’t know who “Indian-Americans” are? They’ve got white elephants on their porches, as I know from canvassing La Palma for the Democrats way back when.
I think she may have been drunk.
She’s gonna run for the Senate in Georgia and was practicing her Chief Noc-A-Homa cheer….
She’s an international laughing stock!
Here’s the Guardian blurb on the most embarrassing candidate since… B-1 Bob? http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/may/17/california-senate-candidate-war-cry-mocking-native-americans
I wonder if this was before or after her “Margaritas and Mambo” reception? I’ll have to ask my friends who were there.
It’s so hard to tell with her.
And now from some quarters, what a smart woman she is.
She’s as smart as most of OC’s other Congressmembers. She’s just sometimes not very wise. She’s been able to get along with a loosey-goosey style that works reasonably well in a safe district in OC, but will totally kill her as a Senate candidate in the country’s largest state.
In some ways, she’s the moderate Democratic counterpart of Dana Rohrabacher — who is also no dummy but who gets away with some awful embarrassing behavior because (1) he’s a Congressional rather than a U.S. Senate candidate so people don’t care and (2) he’s in a safe seat.
Woo woo woo.
Yes, the cry of the dummy.
“She’s as smart as most of OC’s other Congressmembers”
….so what’s the GOOD news?
That, Big Box, is as good as it’s gonna get in that regard.
For those who doubt the genius of Loretta Sanchez, please observe the brilliant dash past the newsdude with the “hey, hey, hey” at a non-existent person she’s pretending to catch up to avoid the camera. If that’s not US Senate material, I don’t know what is.
http://www.kcra.com/news/congresswoman-dodges-questions-about-native-american-remark-gesture/33065384
I always thought she was a decent Congressperson, and much more progressive than Lou Correa would be.
Is it too late for:
*Tomahawk Chop? Wasn’t that Ted Turner? Or was Jane Fonda, just wearing the hat and pretending? We are going to hold our water on this one and just wait for Loretta’s remarks about Totem Poles, Tee Pees, Native Indian Tourquoies art and jewelry and Buffalon hides. Maybe she will do another Ice Bucket dump for good measure. She might even make mention of a certain Squaw Man or two before this is all over. What do they say: “Everything is on the table!”
Loretta Sanchez – Hack In A Dumpster!!!!!
I missed receiving my award!
..06:00…”I would fly out of Orange County Airport…the highest General Aviation Trafficked in our Nation….”
Nope. Not even close. 19th, behind Van Nuys, Long Beach, and Chino. And SNA is only 64% General Aviation vs 80-90% for the others. (Wouldn’t “pilots” be familiar with that?) from-
pg 42 of 2013 General Aviation Statistical Databook & 2014 Industry Outlook
Her mouth has a mind of its own.
“Her mouth has a mind of its own.”
Too bad it’s the only one she’s got.
Her only discernible skill (well, really it’s more of a personality trait) is the relentless endurance of the career self-promoter.
“Context behind the Sanchez Comment from Saturday” –
http://www.theliberaloc.com/2015/05/18/context-behind-the-sanchez-comment-from-saturday/
I know many of you have a hard-on for LOC – but this does sound believable and somewhat mitigating in favor of LS.
“The confusion on her part was honest”
Yes, honestly ignorant. Very believable.
And the “war whoop” nineteen idiot years later was a stereotypical cartoon moment. I’m willing to bet she was more drunk than sober, but that’s hardly a reassuring or even a mitigating thought.
Whether her apology to Native Americans was sincere only she knows. I’m sure she’s real sorry she did it. Of course some people think there’s no such thing as bad publicity. She may be one of them.
*We love Loretta, but that doesn’t mitigate the stupid factor. She is a very smart girl and this was just a “mind fart” and what we so eloquently describe as “Just too gay and festive….for her own good!” It is done….how folks weigh the evidence and attitude….who can say?
She is a very smart girl…
Yes, she is. In an opposite universe.
Right. Hiyiyiyi, hiyiyiyi, Indian braves are we.
Dan is hoping for a call.
Congresswoman Sanchez’s actions Saturday can not be easily dismissed without reviewing the standards used to judge/destroy others.
To me it was not offensive, but either is the term “poverty pimp” or “Mex-Dresser”. The fact that she was dumb enough to do that AND not defend it, scares me. This could be nothing instead she let it become something.
Lolita took her screeching buffoonery to the FJC commencement at Fullerton High stadium last night. Apparently her campaign speech was so long and so annoying people in the audience actually started yelling at her to stop talking about herself and sit down.
