Couple things to get you-all started off this weekend. Follow the Diamond strictures whatever those were. BigBox, where’s the killer videos? Skallywag, where’s the latest stoopid rightwing scandal or outrage-du-jour? Let’s get this PARTY STARTED!
Exhibit A to get your blood flowing: A scene from last week’s ObamaCare event in Santa Ana. Aren’t you sick of these cherry-picked stories about the health care law’s failures and how it’s hurting people? Oh, maybe you’re not stuck at a place where they watch FOX all day. Well, this is more typical, and touching – thanks to OFA OC’s Marc Sussman for sharing this testimony of Susi Lopez finally getting her family covered. Sounds like the law really works! Good, because it’s here to stay:
And then, TONITE! (Friday night at 7)
This is from our dispossessed Santa Ana artist friends, as they prepare for their forced exodus from the Santora Building:

Our Immediate Tasks
We must call attention, among the workers parties or the extremist tendencies within those parties, to the need to undertake an effective ideological action in order to combat the emotional influence of advanced capitalist methods of propaganda. On every occasion, by every hyper-political means, we must publicize desirable alternatives to the spectacle of the capitalist way of life, so as to destroy the bourgeois idea of happiness. At the same time, taking into account the existence, within the various ruling classes, of elements that have always tended (out of boredom and thirst for novelty) toward things that lead to the disappearance of their societies, we should incite the persons who control some of the vast resources that we lack to provide us with the means to carry out our experiments, out of the same motives of potential profit as they do with scientific research.
We must everywhere present a revolutionary alternative to the ruling culture; coordinate all the researches which are currently taking place but which lack a comprehensive perspective; and incite, through critiques and propaganda, the most advanced artists and intellectuals of all countries to contact us in view of a collective action.
We should declare ourselves ready to renew discussion, on the basis of this program, with those who, having taken part in an earlier phase of our action, are still capable of rejoining with us.
We must put forward the slogans of unitary urbanism, experimental behavior, hyper-political propaganda, and the construction of ambiences. The passions have been sufficiently interpreted; the point now is to discover new ones.

Okay, so if Plutonium isn’t your cup of..er, plutonium, How about a short VACATION, huh?? Like, 2 minutes….but hey, NO Gas money, and you don’t have to pack or make reservations! These guys have have figured a way to animate Google Streetview pix, and if trips around each of the neighborhoods of 30 MLB stadiums don’t excite you, (Hint- move the A or B point and hit ‘create’ to get the ‘load’ bar, or it just sits there) try the demo for a quick trip with LOTS of scenery!!!

(They DO take a few minutes to load with all the pictures involved, PATIENCE!) Feed the mouse and hold my e-mail ’till I get back!
I guess my rhetorical answer was ‘YES’? E-mail me if I owe someone an apology.
I would have saved THIS one for next week, but the paper note tower on my desk is getting structurally unsound…
enjoy!
The Calderon indictments against state Sen. Ronald S. Claderon and former Assemblymen Tom Calderon handed down Friday evening, drew a soft response from the colleges in the Legislature as they closed the doors and tried to decide what to do.
The Democratic Caucus scheduled an emergency meeting by teleconference Friday afternoon, along with Darrell Stienburg no comments, until he’s had a chance to meet with his members. One has to wonder how far this indictment will go and how many other members will be caught up in this particular scheme.
About two hours after the indictment the only public comment was from Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia (D) from of all places Bell Gardens, “Today’s action by the US Attorney casts a shadow of corruption and greed over our government and all who serve as elected officials.”
Why would anyone think that? It was only about $100,000 in bribery, plus a few trips and meals, like the Calderons look like they need extra calories in their diets…How much of this will spill over to other Democrats as we march into another election cycle? Stay tuned, the oscillating rotator hasn’t stopped yet.
In other news…
Did you hear that Lady Gaga is paying for water to be pumped into a leaky pool for a photo shot and PSA at Hearst Castle?
Yes indeed, Lady Gaga is paying to pump water into the leaky pool (5,000 gal/day leaky!) so she can do a PSA for all her little monsters to conserve water. There are some other details to this that might be good, but the irony of wasting water to save it isn’t lost on me.
Is this the best government money can buy?
I swam in that pool!
This pool?
I don’t know about that sign.
But as a post graduate student and a California history buff, I took a job at San Simeon for this purpose: each spring employees are allowed to swim in each of the pools.
I did so, and invited a young thing from SLO to join me. Paige, where are you?????
As an aside, A few doors down from Congresswomen Sanchez’s house lives a guy, a normally HARD CORE REPUBLICAN, who delivered alfalfa to the ranch in the 1930’s. This guy met the Big Man himself, has moderated his views after 90 some years. He proves as a lesson to all of us LEFT and RIGHT that recognition means more than position.
Connor Traut, who filed a complaint to the California ‘s Fair Political Practices Commission against Mayor Tait (see link below), was recently featured in positive terms in the LOC. Connor is 19 years old. It is encouraging that young persons get involved in the civic affairs. I wish him the best. I hope that he is open minded to get to know the players and the issues. Being embraced by Dan C and Jordan Brandman, and through them to the Pringle’s group, is worrisome though.

Not surprising at all that the VOC rag would only reference the Democratic Calderon thieves with the single “D.” If they were Republicans that would have been in the headline and 10 times in the article. Disgusting.
No mention of these Democratic thieves on this blog either.
Wahhhh… poor Republicans just can’t catch a break in this county, can they?
By the way I seem to remember Diamond writing something about “The Fall of the House of Calderons”… MONTHS AGO. Also not an OC story. Except that your little buddy Jordan Brandman works for them. They are not the kind of Dems that honest progressives like me or Greg would cover for or mourn.
Still, duly noted that you are victimized as always.
Do you have any sense of shame at all, skally?
If I worked here (meaning paid enough to live on) full time, I’d have written about it. As it is, it’s one of the many things that I have to skip. But we’ve invited you to post here if you want to do so, and you clearly have loads of time for it, so who’s really to blame here?
And yet – look – I remembered right. You, Greg, wrote about this before anyone around here. So skally can go take a flying whatever:
http://www.orangejuiceblog.com/2013/10/breaking-news-from-al-jazeera-the-fall-of-the-house-of-calderon/
That was 4 months ago – how about an update with charges recently being filed?
Lay it on us, if it’s so important to you. We won’t censor a word! But I sure don’t have time for a non-OC story like that, and neither does Greg. You see us going on about Christie’s Bridge-Gate, or the corrupt Republican governors in North Carolina and Virgina? Nope.
So give us the skinny then. With links. It’s not like we like the guys or anything.
More than four months ago, skally, I somewhat controversially spoke at DPOC and identified rumored ethical problems swirling among the Calderons as the sort of thing where we had to take a proactive role, declaring what behavior we as a party would simply refuse to accept. So you are barking up entirely the wrong tree.
In this case, the basic answer for not writing about it, beyond lack of time, is that the story was all over the news and there was no need to weigh in, nor any novel take to offer on it. So get up off your barcalounger and be part of the solution in you think that some stories aren’t getting the coverage they should. We know you can do it when you’re talking about some ginned up craziness; show that you can do it in a case where your assertions will stand up to scrutiny.
Well done, GD. Well done.

Mmmmrrrp? Rilly?
People often tell me that it’s really refreshing to have an Asian woman running as a Republican. You might wonder how I became a Republican and why I joined with Rep. Ed Royce and the Republican Party. This is my story.
I came to the United States with my parents after attending elementary school in South Korea. After spending my younger years in Guam and Hawaii, I moved to California so I could attend the University of Southern California. That’s where I met my husband, Charles, whom I have been married to for 28 years.
Together we raised four awesome kids, and two of them attended my recent fundraiser at Los Coyotes County Club. Our children all went to public schools, including Troy High School in Fullerton, and three of them chose to attend Cal State Fullerton.
As many immigrant families did, my parents worked hard and struggled, but they also instilled in me the value of individual responsibility and living within a person’s means.
Those traits shaped me into who I am today.
As a result, as soon as I was able to register to vote it was natural for me to join the political party that closely reflected my values – individual freedom, reducing regulation and promoting pro-business policies. I have been a proud Republican ever since.
After college, I worked in the private business sector as a controller and financial analyst and also ran a small business.
For the past 20 years, I have worked alongside Royce and conducted extensive community outreach, assisted hundreds of constituents with their problems and developed close working relationships with elected and community leaders.
When the opportunity to seek an elected office presented itself, it seemed like a natural progression from being a community volunteer and business owner. Many people encouraged me to take the opportunity, so I’m stepping up to do the job.
I know I can continue to serve the same constituency, but do so as an influential watchdog for legislation that impacts our district and ensure the district’s representative who reflects constituents’ values..
The key issues in the 65th Assembly District are similar to those of other districts: jobs, education and public safety. I look forward to sharing my thoughts on these key issues and others with you throughout my campaign:
Jobs: Most of the new jobs created in our district and the state come from small businesses. We should be advancing policies that help them grow; however, a recent survey of small business owners in California found that only 9 percent rated California’s business climate as good, while 62 percent rated it as poor and said that the No. 1 issue impacting them is “too much regulation.”

(Allan Bartlett) “Lucille, I have a quick process question. .. you’re running as a Republican, against an incumbent Republican .. And there’s one Democrat running, so are you planning on splitting the vote, and electing (Dem) Lorri Galloway right now?”
So what was Lucille’s response?
You might kind this interesting?
