From an OC Political post today on the OCGOP early endorsements:
There were unanimous endorsements for Shari Freidenrich and Tony Rackaukas. I don’t believe that Shari is challenged and given the circumstances surrounding prior challenges, it’s not likely that TRack will see any challengers until he is blind and walking with a cane and willing to step down, none of which seem to be in his future.
I cannot believe that OC voters might not even be given a chance to cast a protest vote against Tony Rackauckas this year. It’s not like there aren’t big issues to discuss! Todd Spitzer, you were supposed to run — where are you?
If anyone reading this has heard any rumors of candidates, please let me know. The list of reasons not to vote for him is long — but one can’t vote against him if he doesn’t have an appointment.
Just think of the cases he’s lost recently. I’m not just talking about the Kelly Thomas killing case, where he made a dubious at best decision to grandstand by taking it into his own hands rather that letting one or more of the best of his prosecutors make a go of it, but also losing the appellate case on his ill-advised (to be kind about it) gang injunctions, and more. Letting the man skate — and then perhaps resign and let the Board of Supervisors install his chosen replacement, subverting the democratic process yet again — without even a murmur of dissent would just be wrong.
That may be “the OC way” — but that doesn’t make it right.
I wasn’t there, ’cause it’s not my party, but I don’t think TR’s endorsement was unanimous. At least not what I saw from FaceBook remarks…
Maybe not — but the author seems like a credible source.
Not surprising at all. Somebody with lots of money had a Come-to-Jesus meeting with Spitzer.
*Greg, we love Tony……and we love you….just run against him and see what happens?
We agree, we hate seeing anyone run unopposed.
we love Tony
Really? Why?
They love Deborah Pauly. They love Dana Rohrabacher. They love anyone who’s been nice to them at some point.
Diamond’s gotta run against this waste of life, even if it’s hopeless. Just to publicly make all the cases against him. Let’s ALL chip in…
*We do love Deborah Pauley….and Tony…..but Dana not so much. We do like Rhonda a bunch….but then we do have our limits. It’s like our brother Bruce Whitaker…..he is a great guy in so many respects…but when he forgets that public service supercedes everything else…and he fails to respond to dangerous situations with immediate corrective action….we do get disappointed. The Same goes for Dana.
Well.. okay. Then tell us, why do you love Tony Rackauckas?
Do you think a District Attorney has a job to do? And how does T-Rack do it well?
*Tony has stood in the middle of a firestorm and almost walked on water. We refer to the Mike Carona years. Tony had to dodgeball the Moorlach attacks which put Tony in danger….because he supported Mike for quite some time. We call that loyalty. Misgotten loyalty you might perceive, but the problems were very messy ….as you might recall. We loved Mike Carona as well. Certainly not because of his associations with his two quasi-civilian Asst. Sheriff’s…..that is for sure. He had many good ideas about the Sheriff – through – process and the Leo C. Lacy facility. But heck that is very old news. When the wheels came off…it left Tony hanging. How he got through that process is still pretty darn impressive. Personally, he has always been a gentlemen to us and in most cases ….very forthcoming. We enjoyed the former DA as well……but he got out …just in the nick of time! But that is another story in the Naked City.
Can’t really follow any of that, but it seems like this County is full of people who hearken back to Mike Carona as either the last time they did something notably good, or the last time they made a big mistake.
‘zat 10 years ago yet?
“Tony has stood in the middle of a firestorm and almost walked on water.”
I have no idea what that means, but I am reminded of our former AG John Mitchell who once bragged (too quickly as it turned out) that the investigatory committee never laid a glove on him.
*John Mitchell stood behind Richard Nixon and his whole lot of Neo-Nazi’s. Tony stood behind a flawed but very caring person……that once he made friends with….stuck by them….through thick and thin. We cannot tell you how wrong Mike made in choices of people…..but all in all, the question was on the ability and integrity of Tony. Tony stood tall, in the middle of this whirlwind. That should stand for something. Additionally, as much as Tony is attacked…….we keep wondering where he made any tragic errors. No one seems to do much on that account…other than just name call.
Fine, when I’m done with my Janet Nguyen epic, I’ll do a Tony Rackauckas epic. Making a trilogy with my Dave Ellis epic.
Let the record show that I have had nothing to do (at least not intentionally) with Vern’s apparent choice of topic.
(I will certainly look forward to reading it, though!)
Tony stood tall
Um, yeah, whatever you say.
I know how tall the guy stands. And, literally or metaphorically, it ain’t tall.
He manages to kick the downtrodden plenty though…
How could I run without David Zenger’s endorsement?
Rackauckas is doing it.
That’s true for some values of “it,” but I still don’t think he’d endorse me if I ran. You, on the other hand, would be excused for abstaining.
Endorse him, Zenger. I can’t think of WHERE you two are not on the same page when it comes to issues that a DA would be involved in.
Any recommendations in the Long Beach City Prosecutor’s race?
Is that the same as Long Beach City Attorney? Matt Pappas is a friend of the blog…
Nope. I don’t even know who’s running.
